That has to be referring to jazz jackrabbit, but I remain skeptical as to whether this is something new, or something old. You say it's the latest version of Edge, but is there any proof of that?

The latest issue of Edge came out nine days ago, but I see no mention of this elsewhere on the net. Also it seems suspicious that the ad would use the JJ2 cover art...

This cover art is much better than the new screens of the Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 game, that's for sure. Altrough the one has more photoshop than the other..

It's Shade.
Actually, I could tell it was an edit. You can even see the leftover white parts due to not increasing the selection value enough while editing. Plus, it was obvious that the orange part was distorted very unprofessionally.
My previous comments (about needing more proof) were simply to back up my theory.

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 sucks by the way.
So you can tell how good a game is by three gameplay videos, never having actually played it and despite the fact it's not even finished?
Please indulge on this.

Of course I've never played it. But I'm very well known with the Rayman games. The 3 original platformers were great, and it was good to hear that an epic sequel to Rayman2 was in developement by the original creator, Michel Ancel. Unfortunately, the developers saw great possibilities with the Wii controls when they got the devkit and moved the Rayman4 project to a rushed party game called Rayman Raving Rabbids. When it was finally released, I played it and it was kind of funny, but in no way as good as the original Rayman platformers. And it's a known fact that the sequel will do almost the same thing as the first Rabbids. It was funny for one time, but not for another. So it sucks..
n00b
Jun 17, 2007, 04:59 PM
And whats keeping the original platformer version from sucking? No one outside of Ubisoft has ever played it.
Oh thats right- It was a platformer, so it's automatically better.
Most people who complain about the final version tend to have played ports of the game and not the Wii version, or just watched videos of the game. I don't really see how a game designed specifically for the Wii could be fun on a PS2 or Xbox 360 anyways, it doesn't really make sense. And sequel doing the same thing as the first? You mean becoming the #2 best selling wii game only knocked down to #3 because Wii Play was the easiest way to acquire a wiimote?
Slaz
Jun 17, 2007, 10:18 PM
The original Rabbids game was fun to play on the Wii, it was pointless on other consoles though. But since it's succes, Ubisoft saw a market in the Rabbids and that's the main reason for their sequel. It's logical, the developement costs for Rabbids were pretty low, and the game sold very good.. So basically, the only reason why I said the Rabbids sucked is because they're overtaking the 'real' Rayman games with party games, and even IGN is calling the Rabbids sequel 'Rayman2', it just can't get any worse. I really hope they're going back to platforming after this sequel.
Anyway, see the Rabbid Disownership Club (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3371013044/m/7431083065) for more details.

case + point: rabbids 2 is wii only
everyone likes the wii and the rabbids
ubisoft likes money
the end
The GBA and DS versions were actual platformers, anyway. What more can you ask of them, "I'd like you to cut into your only source of income to spend it on a less profitable game so I can get my fix"? Besides, this happened before, 9 years ago with a little game called Mario Party and it's still going strong.

Jun 18, 2007, 06:10 AM
No one complained "OMG NINTENDO IS RUINING THE MARIO FRANCHISE FOREVER!!" When Mario Party 2 came out. People said "I wish there was another platformer", yes. But no one had "Party Disownership" clubs or claimed that the Mario franchise will become nothing but party games.
Here's the deal- Ubisoft loves money. Rabbid games are cheap and easy to make . Case in point: one deveolper said that if they had an idea for a minigame in a day or two they'd have have a testable version of that idea.
A full-blown Rayman platformer takes time, and therefor it's harder to bank on a series that only has a release once every few years. If there is a platformer in development it's probably in pre-dev stages right now and who can say if the game will be anything like the pre-dev stages? Little known fact- Michael Ancel left Rayman 2 development 80% or so of the way in to design Rayman 3 and a Rayman Kart racer.
The final Rayman 3 had nothing to do with Michael Ancel, and there never was a kart racer from Ubisoft.
OMG! We waz robbed of a michael ancel rayman game!!!11 QUK!!! DIZOWN DA HOODLUMZ!!!11!

DIZOWN DA HOODLUMZ!!!11!
That made me burst out laughing.
I don't really feel much anger at this issue since the games aren't really part of the Rayman series at all. As long as they keep the title away from Rayman 4, I'm good.
Slaz
Jun 20, 2007, 02:18 AM
I agree with that, but on the other hand, that was actually the problem. Ubisoft and IGN are acting like the Rabbids game and it's sequel are part of the Rayman series by giving them names like Rayman4 or Rayman2, and Rayman is only in the games for the name of marketing. Everyone knew who Rayman is, but that was not the case for the Rabbids..
n00b
Jun 20, 2007, 08:29 PM
Ok, I will accept your opinion except for one thing-
What IGN says doesn't matter
If we all went by the typos IGN makes, Instead of "Minnie Mouse" it'd be "Mini Mouse"
Actually make that 2 things, RRR isn't titled "Rayman 4" although thats an unofficial name some fans give it. I chose to give it that name during development, and even apply it to the handheld versions but that doesn't make it the official name!

Rayman 4 was the production name of it before it lost all the cool open-exploration parts. AKA, before the addition of minigames. Some people still call it that, though for no good reason.

Exactly Shade, but no one calls movies by their production name so I don't see why people do the same with games.
And when did Rayman 4 have open exploration? The only gameplay footage I saw of it looked like some RRR minigames only extended.
ShadeJackrabbit
Jun 21, 2007, 10:49 AM
It was never really shown, but it was part of the original development ideas. Haven't you seen the early gameplay movie which shows Rayman fending off the entire Rabids army by himself? (EDIT: Just remembered it also showed Michael talking about the gameplay while sitting on a window sill.) It was quite old in development, but it was sorta like that, except in areas which you had already cleared. The nunchuk and the remote were going to each act as one of rayman's fists, and you'd run around defeating rabids. Also, you were originally gonna be able to just jump on things like spiders and ride them.
Yeah, I was following this game since it was MENTIONED.

They can fill air with concepts and mechanics as much as they want, but they obviously never came to be and now they have a somewhat successful party game series.
But seriously, the remote and nunchucks are his fists? I can just play Wii Sports for that.
ShadeJackrabbit
Jun 23, 2007, 06:08 AM
Yeah, except you'd have to use them to wind up punches, and you'd be fighting the rabid ARMY, not just one-on-one. It really was quite neat. Obviously though, the control scheme changes when you get on a spider or something.
But it never happened... DARN YOU UBISOFT! YOU DESTROYED THEM! DARN YOU, DARN YOU ALL!... *starts pounding beach shore*
