So? Winamp and Windows Media Player support WMA by default... and if I'm not mistaking, iTunes does too.

The point is that you need codecs on linux for it to support WMA.

It is possible to do in Nero and I think it is possible in Windows Media Player

It is possible in like anything

Just load the CD to winamp, choose "WAV Writer" from Device options, and play

Then, when it's WAV, use LAME (http://lame.sf.net) to convert it to mp3

All this conversion lowers quality, isn't there something that can convert directly? If not, there should be, now, concentrate on the music, not the extension!

EAC can do it if you configure it correctly (but I forgot how)

Conversions only lower quality if you're converting between lossless formats like mp3's. So if you do that, you need to at least convert between them at low compression rates.

You meant lossy, if it would be lossless the quality wouldn't go down.
