Oh, well, almost everyone knows JJ3 (the 3D jazz game), it didn't get never ready.
If you don't know, please visit HERE (http://www.jazz2online.com/j3f/).
Many fans waited for it, but no, it didn't get ready,
so I wanted create my own 3D Jazz game!
So, now I'm making the "Jazz 3D Fan-clone",
it is unofficial, three dimensional, freeware fan-game.
The graphic isn't best possible, but still playable game when it get's ready.
And a screenshot:

What engine are you designing this in? Are there pictures available? Video available? Have you done any prior work in 3D design?
Is there anything besides statistics that you can tell us about your fan game?

Whoa another Jazz 3D game! I'd suggest everyone who's working on Jazz 3D games should start working together, maybe we actually get somewhere then too... ;p
Anyway, before I continue to talk this project to death, I'd like some more information too... maybe it's not so bad after all.

Oh, well, it works in 3D, but animations and graphics are still bit rough (for example, Jazz' legs doesn't move while he walks to left!)
The engine is custom engine, made with GML-programming language.
I'll get soon a beta, when I finish the so-simple labrat-level...

IMO (as far as I have one) custom engines are good, as they are made to suit the needs of the game. So that's good. As for those legs, just put him in a wheelchair then.

Ok. I think we should just let ambosesoftware make jazz 3. There a real company and they already got everything planned. I'd much rather play a game from a real company than a fan. (no afence.)

As for those legs, just put him in a wheelchair then.<s>By representing every minority we can achieve total political correctness! We'd also have to make Spaz black and Lori a lesbian, though.</s>
Anyway, interested in how this turns out. GML... are you using 3D models or 2D sprites?

Umm... I wonder what you would get if you make a 3D game with 2D sprites :/

What's that? Did they really make a 3D game with 2D sprites? :o

There's been quite a few games that did this. The Darwinians in Darwinia were sprites. In Mario Kart 64, the tracks were full 3D but the karts and items were pre-rendered sprites. Even recent games use sprites for some graphical optimisations (usually pickups and vegetation).

Sonic X-Treme was a pretty interesting example of sprites in 2D, IMO.

Um, this uses 2D sprites... :o
Sry...
It really is 3D platformer, made with GML, as there aren't many 3D platforms made with it.
As soon as I get my upload-thing work, you will find the first screen shot in first post!
EDIT: screen added. go to top or click here (http://www.mediamax.com/the_kax/Hosted/JJ3DFC.JPG)

Doesn't look too bad... but Jazz looks a bit stretched. The 2D sprite looks rather funny in the big 3D world ;p

Yes he looks.

Sorry, Quake actually had models, but Hexen didn't.
As for the screen-shot, are you looking for a Sonic 3D Robo-Blast II look? If so, the Jazz sprite looks too stretched vertically.

But seriously, isn't this just another one of those 'attempts' to make a new Jazz? You do realize how much work it is even with more experienced people in your team. Also, the game won't be that succesfull without finding a publisher, the original developers had cancelled the game because of that. And since this is a fan game, it won't be popular enough to make Jazz3Online or something like that. I still have some hope in AmbeSoftware though, because it's a real company and if their version of the game becomes great, they may just be able to find a publisher!

It wouldn't be a good idea to make a fangame and call it Jazz3D.

It wouldn't be a good idea to make a normal game and call it Jazz3D either. Legal stuff, remember.

Ow.. On the other hand! Just show your screenshots because there IS no Jazz 3d so everything is better than nothing :)
Dont worry much about materials of meshes because if you able to show a little demo I am sure a lot of people want to help :D

I'm pretty sure it'll be implemented too when it is its time. I personally also know how to do games with GML (yeah, I knew Kax on a Game Maker forum before finding myself here), and since Game Maker has only a limited support for 3D games, and it's not the difficulty of "click, another click, done". I am personally really surprised about Kax making this game, I had underestimated him.
Go go, Kax GO! We're more than eagerly waiting for this game to be published!

Like in Doom where the baddies are 2D and always facing you.

Oh, well things are going great, but:
I've encountered mystical GM-bug, but I (probably know fow to fix it, I hope...) keep making it. Screen doesnt work? I see a screen on the first post.
"Like in Doom where the baddies are 2D and always facing you"
Oh, they don't always face you, as there is sprites where they are sideways =P . Engine works well. At least now. At least.
By the way, I'm working on my JJ2 episode heroes, wich may bit slow down this project. Sad.
