View Full Version : One-Weekend 1 on 1 Tournament
Superjazz
Dec 2, 2007, 07:41 AM
EDITED: On 9/12 I'm planning to hold a One-Evening 1 on 1 Tournament.
Sign-ups have been closed.
Basic information:

Friday and Saturday are for prequalification and qualification stages. Friday, prequalification is done only if there is a really large amount of players.

Sunday is for Single-elimination, beginning from quarter-finals

Once the sign-ups are closed, the participants are allowed to nominate and vote for maps to be played in the tournament themselves. Further information about this later.

Round wins are counted in the first place. In every match, both players pick a map from the mappool for the two rounds to be played. The opponent cannot affect to another player's choice.

Ties are possible on groupstages(round wins for players are 0-0 or 1-1), but for the elimination-stage there is a tiebreaker round played if needed. The elimination-stage comes with a limited mappool of 3.

Rounds are played till 5 points or 15 minutes, whichever comes first. If the score is still tied after the time-limit, the round ends and it counts as a 0 for both players. The usual sudden-death mode is used only in elimination-stage tiebreakers.

All other specific information, deadlines for matches, mappool, groups, qualifying, etc. I will announce in this thread once it is needed.

Most likely you would have to spend only Saturday and Sunday Evening. This might become a One-Day Tournament possibly too, instead of One-Weekend. We shall see. As well, the players themselves get to create the mappool this time.

Sign-ups have been closed, since this tournament managed to grab the minimum amount of participaters exactly, which is 8. Caused by that, I devolve this into a One-Evening Tournament practically.
EDIT: Ok, so the next act is to create a mappool for the tournament. Attention all participaters, each of you are allowed to name one map you would like to see to be played in the tournament. That means there would be 8 nominations. Once I have got all of them, there will be a poll following, that only the players are allowed to vote too. There you have to read the instructions carefully before voting.
Now, the players who signed up, can post/edit their own reply to nominate a map. Note that the nomination must be a reasonable one, and nominations that have an average worth below 7.0 aren't accepted. As well, since this is a CTF-tournament, only CTF-levels are accepted.
P.S. Brackets are available fairly soon.
Nominations so far:

Bleached Diamondus - R3ptile

BloodBunny's Lair - St.louis

Distopia - Warrior

Galactic Warfare - Robee

Happy Semiconductor CTF - FawFul

Jungle's Edge - Anubis

Space Island Level With Islands - Sperry

You mean I should cancel it because he seems to have an advantage over others?
Anyway, this group is imo a really even one. You cannot know there will be no surprises for sure. Now the other players get a chance to reach Finals, since you and I are out. I would only be disappointed to this, if more than 1 match was forfeited.
Now, here you go with your brackets that have just been randomed a moment ago. Players in the same brackets face each other at the opening-rounds.
Bracket 1: St.Louis - Anubis
Bracket 2: Sperry - Robee
Bracket 3: R3ptile - Ana
Bracket 4: Warrior - FawFul
The winners of Brackets 1 & 2 face each other at the semi-finals.

After all the rubbish earlier, I have to say Superjazz is doing a good job. Too bad not many people have signed up, unfortunately.
I think most players just rather play games for fun at random times, instead of a tournament with deadlines etc.

Superjazz
Dec 9, 2007, 05:53 AM
Well, you are late to be honest. However, if someone seemed to forfeit their match, I could put you as a replacement in the first place, but before that let's see who plays, and who doesn't.
St.Louis continued to the semi-finals so far. And as an example about the round-scores there, round 1 ended 5-1, and round 2 4-4. Just a reminder that if the game is tied after 15 minutes elapse, the game ends and it counts as a 0 for both. To continue, a player only needs to win the another round by then. If round-wins go 0-0 or 1-1, there will be a tiebreaker-round. The remaining map that neither player picked gets played there. The tiebreaker-round may not end as a tie, the first one to score after the time-limit for once wins the round, and continues to the next stage. From now on the rest of you have around 3 hours to finish your opening-round. I suggest starting to play them within 2 hours or so. I can extend the semi-final deadline to 19:30 GMT, to make sure people have enough time to make it as well. Good luck everyone!

Only 2 forfeits in this tournament, pretty nice. Fawful unfortunately was online for the entire day, but he forgot it was an evening tournament, lol. So when Warrior had time Fawful had to go :(
And Well, St.Louis explained.
Warrior somehow beat R3ptile, 0-5, 5-3 and 5-3 (BBlair, JE and Semi) in that order. Kinda laggy it seemed as I was the host. Anyways, finals are Sperry Vs. Warrior.

Warrior wins the first One-Evening Tournament. Congratulations!
I am glad this tournament went well, eventhough I kinda failed my part of it. Two games were forfeits, but at least the reasons for them were clear, so I don't feel disappointed at all. The two games I spectated were enjoyable to broadcast, and I feel we could do a tournament within a few months again. Next time I'd rather have a full-length tournament however, since helding a tournament like this within one Evening can be quite...risky. Special thanks go to Vegito, who hosted most of the games, and to R3ptile who quite much handled this tournament ahead while I was away. I must admit Warrior's win was very surprising, so eat your words Vegito? :P
Now the final standings of the tournament are:
Gold: Warrior
Silver: Sperry
Bronze: R3ptile
Fourth: St.Louis {forfeit}
Fifth: Robee
Sixth: Anubis
Seventh: Ana
Eighth: FawFul {forfeit}

2v2 would be fun, especially since it's never succeeded (?)
Enigma
Dec 12, 2007, 04:50 AM
They have never succeeded mainly for a reason that can't be fixed. It requires 4 people te be online simultaneously instead of just 2, and if any of those 4 have to go during the game, the game is pretty much screwed. And let's face it: tournaments with "walkover" for a result in about half the games aren't fun. Clan 3vs3 tournaments can work around this because there is a larger amount of players to choose from, but if you need the exact 4 correct people to be online, it gets quite a bit harder.
