Okay, lets start off with my most recent picture!
Jerby Jerboa (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/OrangeJerboa.png) - A character of mine, rendered Jazz Jackrabbit style!
(Here (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Jazzjackjerboa.png) and here (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Jazzjerboa.png) original "Jerbie Concepts", done in MSN XP)

Animated Jerboa (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/JerboaJump.gif)

Non Jerboa Stuff:

Sklie (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Sklie-1.png) - Robot RP character
Kr'ket (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Krket-1.png) -Another RP character
Vulture Reploid (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Vulturas-1.png) - Based off of Megaman ZX style!
Psychoraptor model (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Psychoraptor1.jpg) - Repainted, modified JPIII Velociraptor, made into another character!

This is just a small sample of my stuff, I'm MaverickPixelMage on dA!

Wow. I'm no art critic, so don't expect a huge review from me (wait for a guy named Radium), but this stuff is awesome. I particularly like the Vulture Raptoid; looks very Mega Man ZX.

Thanks! I'm rather keen on him too. I did some more MMZX stuff, I'll see if I can find them...

mjc (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/mjcMMZ.png) - a friend's knuckles based character, drawn as a reploid.
Lyric (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Lyric-ZX.png) -My online persona, MMZX style. Usually she's less elegant and Megaman X style.

Also:

Flamedramon and Garudamon (http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y111/PixelMage/Flamedramon-Garudamon-front.png) -Both re-painted digimon toys.

To hell with my post in the introductions.
Well, this is okay, I guess... The jerboa stuff is rather average, except for the animation, which is very smooth and anatomically correct. The rest feels heavily anime-ish and suffers from some anathomy and shading problems, also could use more toned pallettes but that excludes the Vulture Reploid, which is just great. Also, your inking is a bit unstable - are you doing it in Photoshop? If yes, I suggest inking with a real pen or at least using Illustrator.

The figure paints are awesome, though. I guess you should just stick with natural art, you know, pencil, ink, paint, and stuff. You're much better with natural coloring than artificial.

Thanks for the advice. I do draw both in photoshop(with wacom tablet), and by hand. The outlines for all the "complete" pictures (except for Lyric) were done on paper with a fineline pen. It's probably because I tend to rush the inking... I'll take care to make smoother lines in future.
About the Anime-ish, yes I admit that my drawing style in these pictures is heavily influenced by that of the Megaman Zero/ZX games. Sklie and Kr'ket are both characters from a Roleplay loosely based off of the megaman universe. Also I'm a big fan of the games.
I assume the "anatomy problems" relate to Sklie and Kr'ket too, I guess I should have explained the background of these a bit more, but they're not quite supposed to be "human", rather human-like "aliens". To be honest, I'm not so good at drawing the human figure, I shied away from the prospect for years, I know I still need some more work on it. ^^;
Could you explain a bit more about the "toned palette", I think I know what you mean but could you clarify?
Thanks again for the comment!

More pictures!

The raptor is named Squeaky? I think I love you. :P

Anyway, all the stuff you just posted rocks. I like the shiny golbat in particular (not sure why).

No. I certainly hope you realize that is distinctly in the style of Dean Dodrill whose art contributions in published Jazz Jackrabbit games pales to the mighty amount of Nick Stadler.

Zap it up, Zap it up, Stadlerman.

(Oh god, I just realized no one will get my reference.)

I have to agree, Nick's art is by far more unique to JJ than Noogy's, plus it's just more... artsy. Also suits the game's atmosphere more.

PixelMage
Dec 14, 2007, 11:44 AM
Yeah, I do realise Noogy's animations are different to the ones in the title screen and stuff, but personally I like Noogy's style more (maybe it doesn't fit the game so well, but it's just my personal preference).

I didn't mean it to cause offence or anything, and it is drawn in a way that Jazz is drawn (even if only in the animations) in the game. Sorry.

Don't bother apologizing, n00b is known for his rather blunt style here.

Your art is very nice. I like the Chocobo a lot, do you have more pixel art from back then?

That's cool. But please, don't use "32-bit" when you're referring to art you would see on like, SF Alpha or something. Just don't.

I'll provide reasoning when I feel like it. It's complicated.
(yes I know it is old but from now on don't!!!!!)

Chocobo looks really awesome. I love pixel art, as long as its used on a small scale. And you've done a great job on that Jerboa plushie.

I kinda got into spriting through "Megaman sprite comics". In that context, the sprites were referred to as "8-bit", "16-bit" and "32-bit", the chocobo there was named because it was done to fit in with the later sprite Megaman X games, which are 32-bit.

I'm afraid I don't have any of my more recent spritesheets to hand right now. I'll upload thems later.

Bob and George? I used to read that. Alot, actually. If you were on the IRC channel, then I think I know why your nick sounds familiar.

I used to pop in occasionally. Also posted on the forums a bit. Had my own sprite comic, (which is now hand-drawn and lacking updates. Probably will update more after Christmas) http://pixelmage.dssbcc.net/

This is a very late comment, but the plushie you made is sooo cute! Have you sewn stuffed toys before? And how did you come up with the pattern(s) for it?

PixelMage
Jan 26, 2008, 02:49 AM
And this is a rather late reply...

Yup, I've sewn quite a few soft toys. Here's some of my recent ones (http://maverickpixelmage.deviantart.com/gallery/#Plushies).

Patterns, well, I make them myself. Its like boxes and nets, except the shape you want to make is a really complicated box, so it has a complex net to go with it. I sorta take apart the shape I want to make in my head, and draw out the pattern. Sometimes I edit it as I go along. If there's bits I'm stuck on, I look at existing soft toys and how those patterns are made, and edit it a bit to suit. It's kinda hard to describe how I do it, really.
