2007's best JCS'er: Birdie
He made some great levels and a great pack. BlurredD made a tileset that'll most likely win the best tileset award, and a pack with some great levels but a few worse ones. One Up is a bit too overrated in my opinion. PurpleJazz could have had a chance if he had finished Legends, but unfortunately he couldn't finish it on time.
Best level pack: New Ages II - Tale of a Snooze by Snooze
This is a pack not everyone likes, but I think that it has some great levels that should be played more. The other packs can't be called bad at all, 4 of the 5 nominations have been featured downloads and I'm voting for the one that didn't get featured.
2007's best CTF level: Unconventional Coffee by FireSworD
It won a contest and it's better than the other nominations.
2007's best (non-CTF) level: The Warden Woods by Cooba
4 out of 6 nominations were made for the Battle Contest, and the one that got 2nd gets my vote. Neobeo's Firetruck was good, but I'm just voting for a Battle level. Panic!
2007's best tileset/tileset conversion: Desolation by BlurredD
There is not much to say here. Only bad side is that the tileset will be overused soon.
2007's best music: A Prisoner Out (Chameleon World remix) by DoubleGJ (aka JSZ Jazz)
What to expect from 2008: Collaboration levels for cooba's contest, more great levels and packs like New Ages III, great tilesets like Castle of Cadavers, and Impressions ع, the third pack from the Impressions series that'll hopefully beat Impressions and Impressions Z.

I haven't had enough time to check out EVERYTHING this year, but anyways..
2007's best JCS'er:
Normally I'd vote for Cooba, my favorite active level maker, but he didn't release many things this year (even though everything he *did* release was top-notch) so I'm going with Birdie here for making a lot of quality levels that are also always fun and unique..
2007's best level pack:
I don't care for SP but everyone always says Mike's packs are great so I check them out.. The Battle for Carrotus was the worst pack out of the three but it's still pretty good... however definitely does not deserve the hype it gets. New Ages was great (well at least the last 2 or 3 levels), by far the best thing uploaded in 2006... but the sequel wasn't even half as good. Barely even one GREAT level. The biggest disappointent in 2007 for me.
Anyway my vote goes to One Up. Not the greatest levels by Blur ever, but still good enough to make the best pack uploaded this year..
2007's best CTF level:
Toxin Twister. It's quite sad there are not many people who appreciate this level... some may say it's not all that great, and I agree there.. it's not GREAT, it's just.. cool. Seriously, you people play utter crap like JE and GW......... just play Toxin Twister instead.
2007's best non-CTF level:
(What's the deal with Neobeo's Firetruck?..)
DarkMatch - Pwns. It was definitive from the moment I saw it. I knew there'd be nothing better this year. No one is going to vote for it but THIS is the best level of 2007.
2007's best music:
Crysilis World 2

I agree, but considering its the only single player pack up there (also quite decent to boot) and I tend to only play single player levels my only other choice would be not voting, and that choice would do a great disservice to my silent "Moar SP plz" protest.

True but also none of the other single player packs were as great as The Battle for Carrotus. Its really easy to vote for Halo 3 when theres no Call of Duty 4 or Bioshock.

2007's best JCS'er: Ragnarok
The quantity of levels that rag has released this year might not be so great, despite this the levels that he hasn't released, or hasn't quite finished are very awesome.
2007's best level pack: 1UP
1 Up seems to be the best option if I'm not going to vote for substracted space, which would be very biased.
2007's best CTF level: <s>MULCH1!!!!!</s> Toxin Twister
A very nice level, even though it does suck abit to play in as jazz (which I do.) It's got no other real faults.
2007's best (non-CTF) level: DarkMatch
Anyone who has played this (which happens to be very few D':) would probably nominate it if they'd ever played a serious game in it.
2007's best tileset/tileset conversion: mediv2o
Desolation is an apparent favorite among the voters, but desolation really isn't the easiest tileset to use well, if you've seen some of the recent levels using the tileset, you would know. So that's why I'm nominating mediv2o, an awesome tileset with almost all completely new stuff; This tileset really has a quake like feel to it, which makes it awesome.
2007's best music: I DONUT LISTEN TO THE MUSICS D:
Unfortunately, I don't really listen to the music uploads often, so I can't really vote here.

Level maker of the year: DarkSonic, I'd say Birdie, Blur and Snz all deserve this as well, but I believe the production lines run in favor of DS.
He released two dammed good packs, the rest did one, so... DS it is.
Level pack of the year: New Ages II, again, I'd say 1up and SS both deserve this equally, but I'm a huge fan of Snz's levels and his pack definitely had the most eye-peeling eye-candy in combination with nice game-play in most levels. For instance "Dreaming..." is one of the best levels I've seen, and that is saying something.
CTF level of the year: Dreaming...
No other level this year even comes close.
But, if I'd have to choose from R3p's list, I'd choose "Unconventional Coffee", since it is definitely the best level overall. Although "Fluid Surface Oscillator", and "Extraterrestrials" have better eye-candy and "Toxin Twister" is a nice level too, I consider game play more important than eye-candy and thus the overall quality of Coffee separates it from the rest of the pack.
FS has done it again.
Best non-ctf level of the year: Caves of the Arabic Ninja, the immense size (for a battle level) that this level provides is just creamy. Eye-candy is sweet and game-play doesn't seem to be bad.
Best tileset, or tileset conversion: Desolation, the other sets/conversions are all good too, but there aren't many tilesets quite as good as Desolation. Good job Blur.
... And musics are a load of worthless crap, when you can listen to real, good music with a program such as WMA or Winamp.

There is no such thing as "real" music. That term makes little to no sense to begin with, and I personally cannot wrap my head how one would go around making fake music.

Then you see it wrong. I have downloaded (and listened to) every music upload that was uploaded to J2O last year and played most (though, indeed, not all) released CTF levels. But no CTF levels that I'd regard as classic were uploaded, and for a leveltype that apparently deserves its own category that'd be my minimum requirement.
addendum: Oh wait, apparently Crysilis World 2 was uploaded in 2007, not 2006 as I originally thought. In that case, it gets my vote.

Here's my vote.
Best tileset: Desolation by BlurredD. One of my favourite tilesets ever, even though it's sort of new.
Best CTF: Unconventional Coffee by FireSword. This is just the kind of level FS is good at making. It might not be perfect, but it's really fun and I like it more than any of the other 2007 ctf levels I have played.

Woah, wait there, you actually made a judgement on my character?
Every vote in this topic carries some weight. It takes motivation to design good levels, and topics like theese help. If you don't care about ctf levels, then fine, but expect some questions if you call them 'unworthy' with such a vague explanation.
To react in such a way, you have made me laugh and I've lost respect for you. :D
Stijn
Dec 24, 2007, 06:02 AM
I meant that your reply was childish, obviously.
I do care about CTF levels in that I play CTF fairly often (especially the last few months) and enjoy playing in a good level. Still there are in my opinion no levels this year that made such an impression on me that I'd nominate them for the award. Perhaps CTF levels simply don't appeal to me in the same way levels for other gametypes do. Or I'm spoiled by the levels I do find good. Anyway, if you think otherwise (which you obviously do), great, you can cast your own vote (and you have done so). I really don't understand what the problem here is.

I have not played enough levels this year, but I can definitely vote in at least one category:
Best CTF Level - Unconventional Coffee by FireSworD.
Easily one of the most unconventional CTF levels ever.
Also, Neobeo's Firetruck does not require a hacked JJ2, it just requires the original .j2l file as downloaded from J2O (because regular JCS ruins it).

For the love of God. Pointing out something negative or making a small tiny jab is NOT an attempt to start a flamewar, if anything Veg's post should have made you think "Maybe I should start making more useful posts" instead of making a completely useless post complaining about a nonexistent attempt to start a flamewar because you're too damn stubborn to try and potentially fix a flaw.

How about you actually clarifying what you meant which is what everyone is asking for or shut up if you don't feel like doing so?

Also, it's not like being skilled in jj2 means that you're a person to look up to in every situation... nor a person who's words always hold meaning.
Especially not when it just about always tends to be the opposite.
O RLY?
Also Stijn, I believe he meant me with that. Well, I made an entire flame post before this but I just end up saying "Let's quit childish attempts to start flamewars right now, shall we..."
..I'll just continue not taking St_Louis seriously like always. His replies are useless and annoying generally anyways. Should have been banned ages ago imo

There were also posts asking "what?" and "why?" in addition to Veg's.
The post was incomprehensible by just about anyone, therefore useless, and you have yet to further elaborate on your post instead taking the easy way out claiming the victim rather than EXPLAININNG WHAT THE HELL YOU MEANT WHICH IS ALL WE REALLY WANT TO KNOW..
Wallace, heed this (heed this makes it sound important =D!): No one gives a crap about you feeling insulted over a dumb post right now. We just want to know what the hell you were trying to say with this post:
Wow St_Louis, can you stop making useless replies at the JCF for once?
As for FS' and Stijns' argueing, n/c =P. They both have a point somewhat, though imo this years CTF levels surely have some nice ones in them :)
Did your eyes glaze over this post because it contained nothing you could claim was an attack and then complain about? :
How about you actually clarifying what you meant which is what everyone is asking for or shut up if you don't feel like doing so?
And like you said it was a small insult. Small insults are not made with the intention of a flamewar. If you're going to reply to this post at it better be a clarification of your post outlined above. If its anything else DO NOT REPLY.

This message has been deleted by St. Louis. Reason: Don't feel like passing the flame tag, then there'd be two five year-olds here.
Fun. Yeah, I guess I would join the fight then as a 5 year old.
As for your posts, they didn't make any sence at all. After a lot of people asked wtf you meant, you just reply with another annoying answer. You one way or another try to attack me in very stupid ways so it is not excactly an attack yet I know you mean me. Quit doing that, get to the point. Im guessing you're the 5 year old here, not me.
By "posts" I meant pretty much every post you made in this topic.

"The same jcs-er" - The same person, who passes the requirements to get nominated for the award (in this case) "Level maker of the year 2007".
The rest combined creates a correctly formed and totally understandable question, which might be easier to read if it was asked like: "Can the same person win the award for "best level-maker of the year two years in a row?" I really can't make that easier to read in correct English.
My English is good enough to understand that. What puzzled me why that would "obviously [be] the absurdest". Which I'd still like to have clarified.

I did not insult you. If you think I did, please be accurate instead of throwing around vague accusations because this kind of talk is not helping us or the thread any further.
Let's try again: why would a certain vote (I can not deduct from your post which one you mean) be "the absurdest vote ever" in case someone can win the "Best JCS-er" award twice in a row?

I'm changing my non-CTF multiplayer vote from whatever it was to "Voldard Cool Treasure Jungle".

Why is it "discrimination" for Snooze to be not nominated if people aren't limited to the nominated people and/or uploads?
Stijn

Let this be a lesson to be clear at the first time you state your point next time. The chance of petty fights such as the one that ensued here tends to be lower then too, saving me work

Snooze has had only one upload this year. One purpose of this is to encourage activity and therefore users who upload more and generally show more activity get a preference.
(hence Mike wasn't nominated either, and his pack is actually rated higher than Snooze's..)

Even if Quality is better than Quantity, one upload isn't a heck of a lot, especially since in Snooze's case he uploaded early on in the year.

Also, you mentioned that people/levels/packs etc, besides for the listed nominees can be voted for only quite some time after the start of the poll.
It's not like it's a given that everyone knows that by standard.
I don't really get what you're trying to say there, but I think you are wrong:
You are strongly recommended, but not limited, to vote for one of the nominations in each category...
Seriously, just stop complaining and go find something better to waste your time on.

I just wanted to say that Castle Manor is just a average level and should not be in the list. I don't want to sound cocky but Worthwhile Grove (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=4776) should be in the list as it is a very good level in my opinion and took me so so so so much time that it makes me pissed that it doesn't get any attention like it should and that some average level does get into the list and mine doesn't makes me really sad.

I wholly disagree with Castle Manor being average, it is a finely crafted level. That being said since people can vote against the list of nominees, being on the list only really helps you win the "mindless sheeple" vote which hopefully isn't many people here. Hell, I was going to vote for Castle Manor if it wasn't on the list, which leads me to my next point: Castle manor AFAIK has one, maybe two, votes so far and even being on the list you'd probably lose to Neobeo's Firetruck. Why is getting such a useless status symbol so important to you? Its not even like you're winning a contest. Being on the list merely says "Hey guys- I had a chance to win a contest" and you can say that now without being on the list. Anyone who uploaded anything last year can say that.

I know I wont win and why should I care? the thing is that it takes so much time to create a really good level and gets ignored by everybody, nobody plays it and that just ruined my little free time I have creating my levels. So it's nice to know that maybe some people appreciate your work. This is exactly the reason why I will stop making levels.
As for the voting:
2007's best JCS'er:
Birdie
2007's best level pack:
The Battle for Carrotus by EvilMike
2007's best CTF level:
Unconventional Coffee by FireSworD
2007's best (non-CTF) level:
Neobeo's Firetruck by Neobeo
2007's best tileset/tileset conversion:
Desolation by BlurredD
2007's best music:
Crysilis World 2 by Dr. Eggman

Sacrush, you could've just hosted your level frequently and asked people to review it.. perhaps even try and get it into the JDC event rotation. Complaining is always the easiest thing to do, as you see.
IconGuy, silly post. Helldome was chosen to be the best level of 2005 if I recall correctly.
