I like how "worst" seems mostly synonymous with "most memorable."

FireSworD
Jan 1, 2008, 04:42 AM
Most memorable worst names, yes. Would you rather we just post names that aren't?

Violet CLM
Jan 1, 2008, 05:28 AM
I think nonmemorability is a form of badness in and of itself, really, in that it seems to me one of the purposes of a level name is to increase recognizability, making it easy to talk about hosting Dis or SBv2, rather than having to resort to things like filename (battle1, bblair) or picking between a host of levels with names like Toxic Waste, Toxic Woods, Toxic Wasted, Tropic Waste, whatever. So ++memorability.

"Carrotpie's & Falcury's Overhyped Karazickle World 2.0"

Space Island Level With Islands (wtf, the name doesn't make sense? ;P)

You got the name wrong. It's SPACE ISLAND LEVEL WITH ISLANDS. The all-caps is important. And the name makes perfect sense! It's a level with islands... in space! Probably the best named level ever, since it is accurate.

n00b
Jan 2, 2008, 05:54 PM
I have to agree with Evilmike on the name making sense. At first I wasn't sure the level would have regular islands since it was about Space Islands, but then then last two words put my fears to rest.

Haha, I remember playing that. I didn't know what the word "regurgitated" meant at that time, but since it fit with the "re-" titles of the Matrix sequels, I accepted it. Now that you bring it up, I think it's hilarious.

This thread is about the worst level names, not the most overrated levels (and really, only the first one is overrated ).

All level names with glaring typos are annoying.
Distopia comes to mind.
So does Under Siegeness.
And Santranigus V (google it!).
Though they're certainly not the worst.

I think the worst names belong to battle levels—many people try to make them sound awe-inspiring or cataclysmic, and it just doesn't work (aside from Muddy Apocalypse, which I'm sure remains quite cool for its intended target audience of 13-year-olds), so I suppose names I really dislike are those ending with 'of death/doom/darkness/destruction'.

Also, the capitalization wouldn't be incorrect if it was a song, and that alone makes it the correct capitalization anywhere.

I removed this earlier, but now I'm going to prove that "Very Stupid Floating Castle" is actually a good levelname.

The typical castle usually consists of walls and buildings on or at the strategic location if built for warfare. This castle is the opposite. It is floating. This is shown from the word "Floating". The word "Stupid" shows that I think this is stupid. This further emphasized by the use of the word "Very". The word "Stupid" could be referring to my opinion of the castle as the designer, or it could be a metaphor describing the castle has a mind of its own, but isn't very smart. The red background in the level can not directly be seen in the castle itself, nor does the title mention it; this evokes a feel of "Hidden Evil" inside this realm because of the fact that the colour red is usually associated with blood and evil.

Should I stop? I think half of that didn't make sense.

Nonomu198
Feb 25, 2008, 12:58 PM
Floating in air is a great strategic place if you are some kinda flying thing (or some aircraft master) fighting land or water things.

Birdie
Feb 25, 2008, 03:13 PM
While the floating position of the very stupid floating castle proves to be a wise move strategically, it was a stupid area to build a floating castle overall, as it is prone to lighting storms.

Raven aka StL
Feb 25, 2008, 11:01 PM
If the castle is sturdily built, following safety standards... lightning storms wouldn't matter.
