Right now i am in the process of trying to convert full .wav song files. I am finding that no matter how much i lower bitrate or sampling audio it does not reduce the size. They always end up around 16.8 megs. Is there any way to reduce the file size so they might be use-able in JJ2 levels?

Warning: This JCF user doesn't know much about sound formats the JJ2 supports, so do not expect a good answer.

I don't know how to compress Impulse Tracker files but if JJ2 supports mp3, you could try converting wave files to that to get a smaller file size.

Well, JJ2 doesn't supports MP3

I know a way to compress most of the common modules, but they're not compatable with JJ2. :\

Here's an awnser to your question: forget it! http://jazz2.nagcentral.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

If ya can't get lower than 16.8Megs, than that's it! Sorry...

(If we'd get our hands on the JJ2 source-code we should update the music-/sound-engine to support some popular compression formats such as MP3 or WMA.)

Also, JJ2 doesn't like big files. According to Evilmike the max was 3 or 4 megabytes or so.. can't remember precisely.

Remember that regular JJ2 has a limited memory space so any huge sound files will take up that much more space.

3, it also depends of the memory of your system.

What is the "it" file format?

IT = Impulse Tracker. A type of mod.

Fire Sword, just in case you want to know more about the Impulse Tracker file format, view this (http://www.geocities.com/lamer_jj2/it.txt) text file.

Yes, there is a size limit for your music files, but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Besides, it's best to aim at keeping your files AT MOST around 1Mb in size. The smaller, the better.
And not all features you find in a regular module-file are supported. For instance: there is NO Impulse Tracker (.it) instrument support! You can only use samples.
There are many other limitations to what you can and can't use. Anyone else got details on them?
