When I play a duel or any game I feel that some songs make me better in the game. Do You have too favourite songs on JJ2?
I like:
Children of Bodom - Everytime I die
Annihilator - Alison Hell

Listening to mp3's in JJ2 is disrespecting the level designer and the effort he put into choosing a track which fits best

But that's just my opinion.
<!-- "Everytime I die" suits jj2's gameplay fairly well // -->

im hardly listening to mp3s, and if i do i find it rather distracting. however iced earth- ten thousand strong is pretty good to push you before a game

As much as I'd like to respect the level creator, a lot of custom level music has either been used to death already, gets annoying fast when looped for a while, or is simply not appropriate.

During serious games I often listen to demoscenish music (Man With No Alias O+) or either an electrohouse or 2 Many DJ's mix.

I would say, i am better if i am listening to very fast music.

I remember playing Worms 2 with a friend one time, wherein the background music changed to one with a strong marching beat (Yesterday's Hero) just as I started my turn. He was more than a bit worried at what that music might inspire my worm to do.

Back when I used to play in duels and clan matches I would listen to The Offspring or something equally fun-rocking, but nowadays I play Jazz2 multiplayer so rarely I rely on the in-game music. As for singleplayer, well, I believe it usually has more climatic and fitting tunes so I stick to those as well.

Altho I very rarely not play JJ2 without the originally intended music, when either A)The music choice makes my ears bleed or B)There is no music whatsoever, I tend to put on either some Spiralmouth or some Vox Lunch.

I don't think it makes play any better since I'm rarely in it to win it anyways.

Usually I listen to the music that came with the level, so I feel more immersed into the its experience. If I don't have the music (or if there is none) I generally listen to anything that is high-energy and aggressive, but not too dramatic so that it doesn't distract me. Or I just go without music.

Listening to mp3's in JJ2 is usually done because most maps are downloaded second-hand and people usually don't have the music to go with the map

Fixed.

I've never heard a single track of music in a custom level for jj2 that I'd listen to rather than mp3s.
Looping, simple and often themeless tracks of techno as. (with no lyrics) are just bs imo.

I like music with break beats. Especially underground rap while playing jj2. It keeps me goin. Underground rap is so fresh.

oversimplification of statement paired with broken argument
</paraphrase>Anyway I usually just play my playlist, which has songs from pretty much every genre imaginable. I find that songs with slower tempos generally work better, though that's just my opinion and taste in music.

oversimplification of statement paired with broken argumentIt's a broken argument if I point out that most jj2 tracks aren't "looping, simple and often themeless tracks of techno"?

your paraphrasing gets an F+ for effort

When I'm feeling bored, I'll either hum or play the theme song for Jazz Jackrabbit 1 (not 2). That almost always gets me going again and Tube Electric.

Other than music from the game, I usually listen to Mind Storm, Super Colossal, Borg or The Mystical Potato Head Groove Thing - Joe Satriani.

Fast-Paced Instrumentals mostly.

There is more to music than lyrics.

That's correct, of course, I never said different.
But I've never heard a background music in a jj2 level that I would've liked more than most tracks in my playlist.

I was pretty sure St. Louis was referring to the tracks chosen for custom-made JJ2 levels.

That leaves about 8400 levels that use another music file though.

If you disregard the official music, which falls in the category "used to death" for me, there are a lot of technoish tracks on top. Of course this is partly because that kind of music is a lot more suitable for tracking than more "melodic" pieces, but such a one-sided music selection does indeed get boring fast. While there are certainly good modules out there, a large part of those used often (Elwood's, for example) are cheesy, generic or simply not good... but then again, you might like such songs, after all music is a matter of taste.

For some reason 'The River' makes me feel agressive. I'm powerful when I'm agressive. })

'Stacy's Mom' distracts me, but I listen to it anyway for some reason. :|

And 'Feats Of Valor' which is actually Jazz2 specific music, helps me by providing me the confidence that I can still win.
