Bash packs uploaded! Get them before joining any bash server:

Full pack; Levels + Tilesets + Music: from Jazz2Online (http://www.jazz2online.com/bashes/bash10/AB10Files.zip) (39 MB, Recommended)

Levels: from Mystic Legends (http://www.mysticlegends.org/ab10/AB10levels.zip) or Jazz2Online (http://www.jazz2online.com/bashes/bash10/AB10Levels.zip) (1 MB)
Tilesets: from Mystic Legends (http://www.mysticlegends.org/ab10/AB10Tilesets.zip) or Jazz2Online (http://www.jazz2online.com/bashes/bash10/AB10Tilesets.zip) (7 MB)
Music: from Jazz2Online (http://www.jazz2online.com/bashes/bash10/AB10Music.zip) (31 MB)

Also note that while the actual anniversary is today, on the 9th, the Bash Servers will be hosted from the 11th till the 14th. This is because it is easier for people to attend if the servers are hosted during a weekend.
<hr>

Less than a month to go until it's the grand 10th anniversary of the Jazz2 shareware release... amongst other things level packs need to be assembled, so start suggesting levels and game modes and rad freestyle actions and whatnot!

Of course the focus will probably be Battle and CTF again, but there's always place for some Race, Assault, Well Tournament or whatnot.

Please link to levels if possible, so it's easy for other people to see which one you mean if they don't know it yet.

I volunteered for compiling the packs, and so did PurpleJazz; we together will probably compile the packs in the end.

Start:
Botanizer (CTF)

By the way, it's lame to suggest your own levels or unreleased stuff.

Not counting the upcoming packs yet, and I'm only suggesting 'new' stuff.

Flag Run:

Possible levels: Action Basement v2, The Crosscut, Halls of Judgment

Battle:

Panic!!, The Warden Woods, Intercity Grudge Match(if it gets finished?) Central Shaft, The Frozen Throne

CTF:

Botanizer, Undulation/Cross Circuit, Earth, Center of the Universe, Evening Shades, Sunken Realm

Upcoming packs like Impressions E and New Ages III have some Bash-material as well. Hopefully they'll be released before the Bash(I'm almost certain that they will)

Levels from New Ages III: Echo Isle, Siberia, Land of Kaamos, Northscar Needle

Levels from Impressions E: Scrap Brain, Mixxed Up, Colourful Compact

Those are just suggestions, but I'm pretty sure some of these are good for the Bash.

Now if ever it's time to radically increase the size of the packs for both game types, since it's the 10th anniversary. It would be great if we put more classics and the very outstanding levels from previous bashes. Imo a good quantity would be as much in percent, as was used for AB7, that was considered too much back then. As well, I support the idea of creating packs for more gametypes.

Here are some suggestions that probably weren't nominated yet.

Battle:

Sector Probe 68-A (Wraith)
Kurast Bazaar (Snooze)
Sandstone Ruins (Quickz)
Foreign Country (Past of Leveldesign)
Shine-o-rific land (EvilMike)
Darkness Tower (Blackraptor)
60,000 Feet Under (BlurredD)
Abandoned Robotics Factory (FireSworD)
Forsaken (BlurredD)
Tube Dreams (Snooze)
The Relics of Minoria's Temple (Past of Leveldesign)
Officials vs Competitors (EvilMike)
Garden Brwal (FireSworD)
Villain Village (Cooba)
Toasted Territory (Sacrush)
The Chasm (Blackraptor)
Secret Base: ID 20516 (DarkSonic)
Apocalyptic End (BlurredD)
Sub-terrestial (Purplejazz)
Beyond The Stars (Flash)

CTF:

After Dark (Snooze)
Altitude Terrace (Purplejazz)
Nightfall in the Noobland (Unhit)
Sub Junction 3 (Birdie)
Turbo Shock Star Cruiser (BlurredD)
The Genesis Reactor (BlurredD)
Distorted Research Site (P4ul)
Destiny Islands (Hitch)
Unconventional Coffee (FireSworD)
Extraterrestials (Sacrush)
Dreaming.. (Snooze)
Superconductor CTF (stripe)
Divide and Conquer (BlurredD)
Helldome (EvilMike)
Twilight (CelL)
Nuclear Afterblast (BlurredD)
Happy Castle CTF (stripe/Fquist/Bobby aka Dizzy)
Bloodbunny's Lair (Bloodbunny)
Cavern CTF: SE (EvilMike)

Whoever is putting the level rotation this year should definitely keep this in mind. Some of the suggestions here are not more than average, gameplay wise.

Well, on one hand I agree with you. But on the other, Stijn did mention last year that he would be up for doing it this year. And because he's the one who came up with the plan to get going. I think we should just let him go along.

Vegito
Mar 13, 2008, 08:53 AM
Well, I'm more for playing levels people actually like in general than about playing levels which are just .. levels.
Bash went from 75% fun gaming and 25% eyecandy/"good levels," to 90% eyecandy/good levels/level makers discussions about what they think the best levels are and 10% fun gaming. I seriously think you should rather think of the people who actually PLAY in the bash instead of the level makers all caring about their own levels to make it into the damn bash.
Thats not what bash was meant for in the first place.

Anyways, thats just my opinion about it.

Also I don't mean you have to play BBlair and such. Maybe levels which everyone used to play though, I think R3ptile's list had some good examples in it. Coffee for example is a great level for such an event. Fun to play in with more people.

Ragnarok!
Mar 13, 2008, 09:08 AM
In which case, you said you hated Coffee to me, though you might just be stating some newly found passion or due to someone else's influence, and also I agree about the Bash being a Celebration and not a JCS competition. Some are just blowing this out of proportion.

Vegito
Mar 13, 2008, 09:13 AM

R3ptile, it's fine if you make suggestions or even voice opinions, but if you don't stop flaming then you will soon be gone from this topic. I am not keeping you from voicing any of the opinions you have, but the tone needs to change. If you have problems with that decision take them to PM. I will not tolerate such discussion here.

Now for non-admin mode:

It's obvious every bash that old people who generally don't play (that often) show up. That's the whole fun in bash: for once there are more than just 6 people online, and all the inactive people play again for a few days. If it's just the same people that you play in 4vs4s you could just as well organize those. If you just like the fact a level pack is assembled - that's something that can be done every day of the year.

Bash packs have also always been a mixture of recent levels and some old levels. This is for a reason. You don't just celebrate the past year, but you celebrate all years. It's been obvious that quality of levelmaking has increased over the years, and that lots of people don't like having too much old levels in bash, both for quality reasons and that you get tired of old levels. In some recent bashes, once 24 Hour Coffee started being played, the server emptied up. It's good to find a balance between new levels and old (really good or underplayed) levels. I'd propose something like 75% new 25% old or 80%-20%.

It's just simple fact the target audience is <b>all</b> jazzers, and you should make sure yo try and cater to all of them. Just ignoring them or telling them to go away and die doesn't make the event better.

As for hosting, start yelling about not wanting one of the usual solutions if you can actually provide one yourself. Propose a way that a hosting arrangement can be made that involves reliability. A bash can't depend on one host/admin, it needs multiple for when the server dies. This involves VNC or sharing of duties. If you can't set up a reliable arrangement that involves this, there's no reason to propose hosting.

<small>PS: I don't think 24 Hour Coffee is a bad level. It's actually fun. It's just that it's been in so much bashes everybody knows it and has played it too much</small>

Why isn't there a middle way? I'm sure pack / levellist suggestions are welcomed by everyone, and that they would be considered in the assembly of the pack, or if they are superior even be taken over entirely. There is middle ground between "I don't want to help at all" and "I want to do everything, and do it my way".

Same with hosting. If there are constructive suggestions about who hosts I'm sure they're taken seriously.

big list
Something I'd like to suggest. It's good to have newer, popular levels in the mix, but year 10 is a pretty big deal. I think it would be good to have at least one notable level from every year, from 1998 to 2008. It might also be fun to order them by year, so that players can see the progression.

It might also be fun to order them by year, so that players can see the progression.

That's a great idea, imo, however I'm afraid it'd only work if people remain in the server for a long time or join at the right time (in order to get the full "effect"). But since it shouldn't do any bad to order the levels chronoligally and it has this possible benefit, i highly second this suggestion. Maybe you could even add years to the level's textstrings (like level mady by blah) to the levels which don't have any thus far, that'd be cool.

If people don't want to do exactly this, how about we add a text string to a corner of each level with a short description of what makes it noteworthy/when it was made/etc?

That idea of course assumes players read text strings. Might as well make a node on J2O or something else that does what you described.

It would be nice if people actually listed the levels in the list they wanted out, or list the levels they want in, instead of the (disappointing) nonconstructive complaining. If you want the list to be good, give feedback. And stop whining. I find it rather disturbing that in celebrating that this community exists for 10 years, people mostly act in a way that shows the worst side of it.

I agree with Mike about 10 years being a special event. I also agree old levels should have some representation. I however recognize many people dislike the older levels and want new levels in. What about having some alternative chronological "legendary levels" pack that is hosted at a couple of special times? Or a certain timespan?

Slaz
Mar 14, 2008, 04:22 AM
Whatever old levels will be in, I wouldn't like the famous 3 Diamondus Warzone, Semi, and Bblair to be in because those are way too overplayed last year (that doesn't mean they are bad of course)..

cooba

In my opinion, those levels shouldn't be in the bash10 loop:

The Genesis Reactor Core - surely blur has done some better JCS work than this? This is a fine level but hardly matches up to levels like Anarchy Inn

Wormhole Check Point 18 - gimmicky like Happy Canyon.

After Dark - good eyecandy, little else.

The Demon Rampart - the weakest one from the Agony pack I think? And already done last year, too.

Toxin Twister - already done last year, suited for competitive play making it less fun to play in public games, no thanks.

Mulch - Self explanatory, I hope.

Turbo Shock Star Cruiser CTF - same as Genesis Reactor Core.

Foreign Country - this level wouldn't be half as well known if it wasn't for the tileset that everyone seems to adore for some reason.

Sub-terrestrial - this was played to death last bash.

Bobo Meets Royalty - this one is in only because Stijn wanted it.

Forest Awakening - looks pretty but plays just horribly, never played it last year or something?

It's Over PF - I'm sick of this one.

24 Hour Coffee - no comment.

I was a little disappointed to see Stijn's and PJ's lists so focused on levels that are from 2006 at the most, though.

Also, I find it a <em>little</em> suspicious how PJ's fellow xtreme level makers!! have the most levels in this list.

Hmm.. not bad, but I don't understand why MULCH is in there. I would prefer the new version 'MALCH' or some other level. It also has some levels in that were in earlier Bashes. I can understand that 'classics' are in, but there are also some levels that were in AB8/AB9. I think it's not strange that most of the levels are by XLM members, because most new levels are made by them.

Also, can anyone tell me what Errors of Judgement is? A new level by blur? Or by someone else? I think some people will still be making levels for the Bash, but so far this is a pretty good list.

Battle levels that haven't been rated yet: 6 Hour Energy Drink, Darker Remains, Scrap Brain, Mixxed Up, One and a half hour Dr. Pepper, Caves of the Arabic Ninja

It was surprisingly easy to find really old levels that I found suitable, but 2003 gave me a hard time; please point out which levels I overlooked. The list only goes to 2006 since the 2007/2008 levels worthy of inclusion would probably end up in the "normal" bash pack anyway.

Alternative pack for those legendary levels sounds much better then putting so much old levels in bash..
Hey, I like the sound of that. :3

3DBattle1 (2000, Noraa)
3DBattle! HEE! <3

24 Hour Coffee was like DethMan's last level, wasn't it? That's pretty noteworthy.

Or we can force QoB on everyone. :) *runs*

From the screenshots, it seems a good porton of the level has been made, and what has been made looks pretty good. If Eigus is smart and wraps the level up (p4ul's part ofcourse) or convices p4ul to finish it.

Hey,

Most of you remember me and Jman from back in the day. I decided to stop by because of this wonderful event. Looking back before my college years, The Jazzjackrabbit community was what Jman and I called family. You will never meet an online community as helpful and gracious as this. Im 19 now and I started playing at age 9. I truely grew up playing a rabbit and what a blast it was. If this game dies I truely hope that the community doesn't. For everyone here that helps run this site and keep the game going for the younger generations, God bless. This will always be one hell of a rabbit game!!! :P

I hope to be on during this bash, Jman and I both.

I think the Signature is still the same and I think it speaks for all....

Levels: from Mystic Legends (http://www.mysticlegends.org/ab10/AB10levels.zip) or Jazz2Online (http://www.jazz2online.com/bashes/bash10/AB10Levels.zip) (1 MB)
Tilesets: from Mystic Legends (http://www.mysticlegends.org/ab10/AB10Tilesets.zip) or Jazz2Online (http://www.jazz2online.com/bashes/bash10/AB10Tilesets.zip) (7 MB)

If you cannot play JJ2 online, shout these at yourself every few minutes while playing Single Player JJ2 to get a similar expereince:

"PITS!"

"HELLDOME!"

"SERVER CRASH?"

I don't know. There are enormous problems with finding a server and somehow the one who hosts changes every 6 minutes but I'm enjoying this Bash a lot.

Heh I hosted and updated my GroundForce levels because there happened to be no Bash server yesterday. Somehow JJ2+ went odd after two hours of hosting and it kept crashing after half an hour or so. Oh well, it was fun. We should have bashes more often. How 'bout next week?
