That's right. We've had well over enough miltiplayer matches and tournaments, so I figured I'd try this out on the community. Single Player challenges to do when there aren't any servers!
The idea was originally that you had to score certain points within a level under specified rules. I kept the idea, and here it is:

Score 33800 or more points in an unedited version of A cold day in heck without killing any enemies, dieing, or cheating.

Score 2000 or less points in an unedited version of Darn Ratz(Shareware) without cheating.

Score 250 or less points in an unedited version of Victorian Secret without cheating.

Score exactly 0 points in an unedited version of Medieval Kineval without cheating or dieing.

Reach position 225, 7 with exactly 0 points in an unedited version of Marinated Rabbit without cheating or dieing.

Score 200000 points or more in an unedited version of A Diamondus Forever without dieing or cheating.

Reach position 225, 7 with exactly 0 points and 5 hearts in an unedited version of Marinated Rabbit without dieing or cheating.

Score 300 or less points in an unedited version of Thriller Gorilla without dieing or cheating.

Reach position 225, 7 with 37750 points or more in an unedited version of Electric Boogaloo as Spaz on easy mode, without losing a heart, dieing, cheating, collecting carrots from carrot bumpers, or picking up enemy drops.

Score 500 or less points in an unedited version of Burnin Biscuits without cheating, dieing, or losing a heart.

Score 95000 or more points in an unedited version of the Shareware Demo without cheating or dieing.

Here's the ranking board:

Newbie - 1 Challenge -

Player - 3 Challenges - PurpleJazz, Vivando, Stijn

Proffessional - 5 Challenges - N00b, cooba, SPAZ18

Master - 10 Challenges

One With The Rabbit - 15 Challenges

One With The Level - 20 Challenges

One With The Challenge - 25 Challenges

There probably won't be much recognition from doing this, so don't lie about doing it! It's mainly a goal to try at in your spare time. There will be more challenges in the future when I come up with them. I have done them all before posting them here, so they're possible. Good luck!

NOTE: If you do want recognition, provide a screenshot.

The problem is that because all items, including extra lives, regenerate when you die. Therefore it is relatively easy to get inifinite points just by dying, grabbing a 1up, dying again, et cetera. Even if there is no 1up hidden in the level there is often at least one regenerating item you can use to accumulate a lot of points without effort. It is way more of a challenge to score as least points as possible, or complete a level within a certain time limit.

I'll add a without dying rule then.

n00b
Mar 20, 2008, 12:41 PM
Providing a macro would be much more worthwhile than a screenshot.
EDIT- Forgot that macros don't tally scores nevermind.

EDIT EDIT- This was beyond easy. "Collect all the items!" doesn't scream challenge for me.

You'll note that I also buttstomped/uppercutted a fair bit of the blocks in Bubba's lair. This was because I thought that to reach the goal you had to pull off some sort of trickery. When it turned out I was wrong, I just decided to pull of the trick anyways.

Good job. I'll think of another challenge tomorrow.

I have a picture of a trophy I could give you if you do it.
Anyways, i's time to try at the today's challenges.

n00b
Mar 21, 2008, 08:28 AM
I got 1300 on the new challenge, but I know its possible to get less, so I'll post a screen shot after I attempt it again

EDIT- The only reason why I died is because I got hit accidently, and theres two carrots at the end that are impossible to dodge so I killed myself. It is entirely possible to complete the level with my score and not die.

Challenge #1:
http://www.stijnpeeters.nl/hd/notoveryet.PNG
I don't think you can get any lower without killing Bubba or destroying the necessary blocks. If "without killing any enemies" includes Bubba, my score would be 850 I guess.

Somehow my version of share1.j2l includes tons of enemies (amongst which are some Monkeys) so I'll pass on that one.

I got to think of some harder challenges, n00b is dangerously good at them :o

EDIT: This new one should be relatively difficult.

cooba

Challenge: pass both Castle levels from the retail SP campaign on Hard mode, earning only 100 points total.

n00b
Mar 21, 2008, 10:45 AM
Wait, is that even possible?

cooba
Mar 21, 2008, 10:48 AM
That's what I'm wondering myself. The real trouble comes from the bats at the Queen fight--IIRC, it was you who got 100 points when playing through the first two Castle levels (beating my 200).

http://jazz2online.com/jcf/showpost.php?p=370902&postcount=49

n00b
Mar 21, 2008, 10:57 AM
Although the problem isn't the bat next to the queen who'll leave you alone if you get away far enough. The issue comes from the bat over the spikes who'll chase you though the whole arena

cooba
Mar 21, 2008, 11:00 AM
That's right. I guess it would have been easier to do if one had Frostbiter ammo -- which would push the score to 200, unless the challenge would be about getting though Knight Cap alone. All I'm wondering about if is the Queen fight is possible.

As for Valco's third challenge:

<img src="http://chaos.foxmage.com/cooba/colon1pt200.png" />

EDIT: Playing Share1 with Spaz lets one omit 150 points apparently

I don't think any lower score is possible, and if it was it would require extreme luck on the player's side.

EDIT- Challenge- Beat Medieval Kineval on hard mode with 0 points without losing a life.

Superjazz
Mar 21, 2008, 01:11 PM
On how Victorian Secret is done I haven't got it. I tried everything but the score would be at least around 600. Medieval Kineval with 0 points sounded even more challenging, but after all rapiers can be avoided! It required several tries though. I made it often very near to the finish with 1 health until I got engaged. Finally I somehow managed to save my health until the crowded path in the end and came to the finish. That was neat.

Hey, Valco! I actually had a similar idea to yours! You just had to use lots of tricks to get the highest score you could, without cheating. Of couse, jjnext was allowed, but only to get to the level of your choice. Jjk was also allowed so you could kill yourself on a carrot if you had full health.

Valco
Mar 21, 2008, 02:35 PM
I just did the Medivo thing too. Now that it's confirmed possible, I'll put it on the challenge board.

I knew it was possible, I did it myself. Thats why I challenged it.
I think people who complete each challenge should be added to first post.

EDIT- Valco, you forgot to add "Without Dieing" Its all too easy if you make it to the first checkpoint, die to get full health and then get to the end.

cooba

n00b's medivo1 challenge without losing a single heart:

<img src="http://chaos.foxmage.com/cooba/medivo1pt0.png" />

And an attempt at the A Cold Day in Heck challenge:

<img src="http://chaos.foxmage.com/cooba/inferno1pt35050.png" />

I managed to destroy all stomp blocks before the boss arena by stompjumping Bubba to get higher, and apparently it still didn't earn me a better score than n00b. How'd you get 36000, n00b? Did you play on Easy, or were you just extremely lucky with the Gem Stomp at the beginning (I got 12 gems after several tries)?

n00b
Mar 22, 2008, 06:55 AM
I was playing on medium if it helps. The gem stomp probably also contributed to the score, but I don't exactly recall how many gems I got.

To be fair, in a few earlier runs I did, I only amassed around 3450-3500

Valco
Mar 22, 2008, 06:57 AM
Another challenge is afoot. Good luck everyone.

EDIT: 2 new challenges. The second one will get you for sure...

Marinated Rabbit was nothing special:

<img src="http://chaos.foxmage.com/cooba/beach2pt0.png" />

And as for the diam1 challenge, do you honestly expect anyone to keep shooting regenerating bees until reaching 200,000 points?

n00b

I had to make at least one really hard challenge. Also remember, there are pickups you can take to get quick points while killing bees.

So far I haven't decided if I should include unofficial levels. I might if we run out of ideas for official ones.

If I may suggest a challenge, here's one I tried to do ages ago:

Excluding Devan, score 1900 or less points in Bad Pitt without cheating.

If you wish, I shall upload an imperfect macro I made.
To make it even harder, you might try finishing with 5 hearts. }>

Superjazz
Mar 23, 2008, 07:10 AM
Saving would be forbidden as obviously as in the other challenges, that aren't very hard even without saving. As well, in UD-level5 you are unable to save/load because the huge size of the level.

n00b
Mar 23, 2008, 07:16 AM
Lack of saving doesn't make it harder in the sense that Gunstar Heroes was hard, lack of saving makes it hard in the sense that Jak 2 was "hard".

Especially in low point challenges like Victorian secret, there is one bit that you get one shot at to get the lowest amount of points possible. If you screw up and didnt save, then you have to restart the level all over again which is accomplished spending wasteful time in the menu.

Considering it took me a large number of tries to only collect one ham in the sewers, if I had done so without a save file I may have lost all of my Saturday afternoon. That thought doesn't exactly float my boat.

This challenge was actually much easier than I thought at first.

Challenges: Score 300 points or less on an unedited version of Thriller Gorrila without cheating or dieing.

Complete an unedited version of Dungeon Dilemma on Hard mode within 30 seconds.

Complete an unedited version of Colonial Chaos on Hard mode within 45 seconds.

Complete an unedited version of Frog Stomp on Hard mode within 1 minute 20 seconds. (This is possible)

Complete an unedited version of Snow Bunnies on Hard mode within 1 minute 20 seconds.

Definitely could've scored 400 points more using the carrot bumpers. I'm too lazy to replay this though :|

And just as a tip: it's possible to not enable the water in Marinated Rabbit, making it much easier and faster to finish. I'll leave it to one to figure out but it's somewhat intuitive.

I'm still unsure if I shoud allow custom-made levels into the challenges. Aren't they technically all 'edited'?

-mo93-
Mar 26, 2008, 03:42 AM
I would try to use only standartlevel. If you run out of ideas... then use maybe some custom levels. But the problem with custom levels is, that not everyone knows, how to get it^^. So if you are posting an Challenge with custom levels, please give an link.

Valco
Mar 26, 2008, 05:15 AM

How about this one: Clear the whole Shareware Demo with <b>95 thousand points or more.</b>

Complete this without any other cheats than JJK (if JJK is needed).

Just to help boost your points, and thus it makes it easier. Doing this (on the carrots), however, won't make anything (baddies, pickups etc) regenerate.

Doesn't do anything (other than decrease a life and increase your capacity for health) when you do it on the carrots. Have you ever died on a carrot before? It even keeps your weapons. Trust me, I know. Anyways, like I said, you're only allowed to do it on the carrots. ;p

Valco
Mar 29, 2008, 02:49 PM

I hurt myself to pick up carrots if it is possible. When it is not possible, that's what I mean by using JJK to do that.

It wasn't obvious you used JJK. My "REAL MEN hurt themselves" post wasn't a joke, and with it I was technically explaining that cheating isn't necessery to achieve that score, and there are other methods. You, failing to understand this, posted the way to get it. This might have been helpful, but it shows you think that we need your help on such a simple challenge. Therefore, YOUR A QUACK :-)
