1998 - 2008

Ten years of the Green and Red rabbit duo (14 for the Green hare). Ten years of custom levels.

Now, which levelset is destined to be:

THE JJ2 LEVELSET OF THE DECADE?

I'm tempted to split this <strike>award ceremony</strike> nomination into categories, but try to keep the old levelsets in mind.

LET THE NOMINATIONS BEGIN

First one that comes to mind is BloodBunny's Lair. In duels, the level plays differently than it did in the past, possibly due to playing styles changing over time, carrotade might also be a factor. The level favors the player with the best defensive capabilties; it's better to defend than to attack. Since the level has 2 cars, this often leads to intentionally letting yourself get hit to hog cars, so it'll be easier to kill your opponent (or by doing crazy stuff). It's possible to prolong matches and frustrate your opponent while never dying.

A while back, those weren't really concerns, and stealing a carrot from your opponent was common. For some reason, that just doesn't work anymore (even in relatively lagless conditions). The level is really only suited for 2vs2s currently. However out of all the levels, this one sticks out the most to me. DW is no longer popular but BBlair has been around since, what, 1999? and still continues to be played.

A truly legendary level.

Furthermore, bblair allows you to play really offensive in teamgames, and the carrotade-issue will be gone, now that JJ2+ is out.

Superconductor CTF is the only CTF level I can really enjoy the gametype in (well, I like Rather Useless CTF v2 too, but I sort of made it so that would be unfair). A lot of people dislike it for the "quirky" part with the floatups and wind, but in my opinion this is exactly what makes the level fun. Even though it's relatively small there's a lot of different tactics you can employ and apart from offering great gameplay it also has awesome eyecandy. If there's one CTF level that I would nominate as "level of the decade" it's Superconductor CTF.

But I don't like CTF in general, so I go for Assault3, which while looking horrible (though Pyromanus' edit of it eliminates this point) and being fairly simplistic compared to later assault levels, can be really fun to play and brought my favourite gametype to JJ2. A great blend between Team Battle, CTF and Single Player, I'll always be sad that it is played so little :(

I've always hated bblair with a passion. There might be tactics and ingenious paths and whatnot in it, but somehow I remain oblivious to them and just see a below-average level that is way too open and full of random platforms and unbalanced pickup placement.

By the way, what exactly is a "levelset"?

Assault3 is awful, one of the worst levels i've played. RuSh HouR is better.

levels like BBLAIR, Semi and DW are an acquired taste; most people usually don't like them right away.

"level of the decade"? probably Zaitox or SBv2.

By the way, what exactly is a "levelset"?

being that I was thinking of SP levels, that's why I was thinking of levelsets.

Here are some categories:

Single Player

Multiplayer
->CTF
->Battle
->Treasure

->Custom
--->Jailbreak
--->Ground Force (Survivor)
--->Assault
--->other (Specify)

I vote Battle1 as after 10 years it is still played often :)

To be honest, I don't think anyone has made anything worth the title of best level of the decade. There has been some great levels, but nothing truly amazing.

I do like E.Prime a lot though.

What? It's about the best, not about a-so-awesome-it-made-you-pee.

Actually, no levels really made me want to play them. There have been a lot I enjoyed, but never left a lasting impression.

Someday <strike>I</strike> we will make levels that you can't help but look at, that are so fun they're as addictive as drugs!

Yeah there have been many great levels, tilesets, and all kinds of packs but nobody really took the 'maximum enjoyment' out of JJ2's possibilities. Maybe a huge level pack containing Agama styled tilesets, the most spectacular single player levels ever invented (no slow crate puzzles or simple jump-shoot-find exit gameplay), exclusively made music in Jazz1/2 style, and a bunch of multiplayer maps for all gametypes, including the custom made. Over the past decade, there have been many great creations uploaded to the community, but I don't think I can give any of those incredible creations the title of number1-of-decade. So let's see if the new decade gives us a new addiction, in the form of a pack ofcourse..
