This might work for a game that's rather well known like Quake. But who's heard of Juzz Jumprabbit? What we'd have to do is some sort of awareness type of thing, and that'd be kind of...weird.

1) You start a newbie magnet server. Newbies like variety.
make hotel serwer xDDDD have test?
Anyway the idea of this whole article seems to be that these so-called "dead enders" complain about stuff on a server. But for one thing most of these people who talk about how cool everything used to be in the days do not play JJ2 anymore, and servers in Quake are hardly comparable to those in our game. JJ2 has no dedicated server, and only few server settings – alright, JJ2+ changes this... but at this moment most people find pretty much all JJ2+ features except PITS cool just because they are new anyway – and from my experience a "newbie friendly server" hosts either a hotel or a test.
It's pretty much two separate environments in online JJ2 - normal servers and the aforementioned hoteltest servers. The group who enjoys #1 won't join #2 much (and if they do it's just to ask the players in the server to start a type 1 server) and vice versa. There's a silent crowd who just join random servers, don't chat and play a bit, but I doubt they would be of any concern.
All in all, reading this article as if it was about JJ2 makes me wonder what its point is. As far as I see the problem described has not occured in this community as there are no "dead enders"; the JJ2 dead enders are in #jj2, not playing online.
How serious was this, actually?

JJ2 doesn't need to be "revived". I've been around since 1999 and to me the game seems more active than it has ever been, except for maybe the very, very early days. Its pretty common to see the server list go to two pages now. There was a time when that was an extremely rare occasion.
Whenever people say the game is dying or the community isn't what it used to be, these are just old diehards who don't want to acknowledge that things change. There are a lot of people who play the game, its just that they are mostly different people from the ones who played in the past.
Also note that right now, I just checked and 22 people are playing jj2 online. 20 people are playing quake 1 online (the vast majority of servers have 0 players). Stupid Rabbit Game 2, which was obscure from the very start, is beating what was once an extremely popular online FPS game. The reason for this is simple. Deathmatch FPS games are fun, but they are a dime a dozen. JJ2 on the other hand is the only game of its kind. In my opinion that gives JJ2 a lot more survivability than any more generic old game, despite its age.

Lots of servers does not means a lot of players, but I guess you are right. Also, even though the game is famus enough, not many knows this community, and some dosent even know the online option (I know I thought it's just some never used option to make the game look cooler). Although, it does seem that the roumur has in Spain or something, not helpful.
OMG GUYS MAKE POP UPS ADS AND SPAM MAIL THAT SAYS "JOIN JJ2! GET A 5% OFF JJ PLUSH DULL!!!"!!!

Jazz is dead , And the purpose of this thread is to revive it. One of the main reasons is people can't host. If more people could host others would join more. People like haveing a choice. It would be nice to see loads of servers so you don't have to just choose a battle or ctf , or fr.

Personally I think that the best way to increase activity in jj2 would be to be able to legally share the game online for free. Let that mean making jj2 freeware or coding our own game (OJ2).

Never say dead. NEVER
The fact that jj2 is appearing on abandonware sites means it's attracting a lot of players into the game. The other thing YOU can do is talk about the game to everyone.

Deathmatch FPS games are fun, but they are a dime a dozen
They also get old really quick. Quake 3 arena was supposed to be some kind of competitor to Unreal Tornament, but UT comes out ahead simply because of the GAME TYPES it offered. The fact that Epic borrowed a bit from that for JJ2 (And expaned on that quite cleverly by fans) is the main reason for it's varity.
wtf i'm not a jj2 emo. Theres no such thing
Yes there is. It's types who scream just what you said: "Jazz is dead" in decline in the better word here.
It's just a pessimistic view, basically asking the JJ2 community to quit over the game not being popular.

What are you guys talking about? FPS pwnes almost every other game in the market (with the exception, perhaps, of Jazz2). But there's no way you can say they suck, when they don't!
Take, for example, these games: Medal of Honor, FEAR, Call of Duty, Crisis (couldn't play this one but heard is great), Battlefield 1942, SW: Battlefront, Jedi Knight, Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune.
Notice I haven't even mentioned Quake or Unreal (Tournament).
I really can't believe you don't like ANY of these games, since they are very well known and praised.

These threads almost always follow a certain pattern. Someone says JJ2 is dead/dying, someone refutes the claim with evidence, naysayers continue to go nuts over something that isn't happening and is, in the end, irrelevant.
Quake 3 arena was supposed to be some kind of competitor to Unreal Tornament, but UT comes out ahead simply because of the GAME TYPES it offered.
I disagree, the Quake series and the iD Tech engines gave birth to several popular series, including Team Fortress and Half-Life. iD Tech 3 and UT2k4 were both very popular licensed engines, both of which were very successful. Quake offers the same flexibility and variety that UT does through various mods.
Funny that you, with plenty of experience with pointless insults, should ask this.

JJ2 multiplayer online is dead. The single player is still alive. cooba, what do you really mean it's "dead"? Hmm? The number of people don't play online much or people just don't play the game anymore? Explain. People who play JJ2 single player are a lot. People who play JJ2 online are less.
I'll repeat again, JJ2 isn't exposed to online play. Sure it's got online play, would you think many people who own it would play it online? Think about your reasoning again. I mean people who search for multiplayer games won't find JJ2 as multiplayer, they just find it as single player. However, Jazz Jackrabbit series itself is eternal. I like the GBA version and JJ1 more than JJ2. People still play to that.
Quake was meant for multiplayer because it had lot of features similar to Unreal, HL, etc. Being FPS games, it's meant for online. Sonic Online would be pretty much be the gayest game unless it's 3d hahaha XD.

As early as 1999 on the JMMB people claimed that jj2 was dead (how many times has that sentence been said over the years?) Things are still going on and there are improvements and new stuff every year. The fact that there are so-called "dead-enders" (even if they don't even play the game anymore besides during the bash) still around disproves this myth.
And besides, whether or not the game is "dead" is irrelevant. It is always good to get new people in a game, as it does refresh the life of the community.
However, the Quake related tips largely ignore other very large facets of what would help us get new players and keep them around.
One of the unique things about our little jumpin jazzrabbit bunny game is the replay value. Certainly not with the default single player, of course, but with online play (as has been discussed), but JCS also plays a very, very large role. The ability to make levels and tilesets is one of the reasons I stuck around here and continue to hang around to this day. But making levels and tilesets is one thing, but people who design them need to know that others are interested in it as well.
The point I'm trying to make? More of the active players need to be active on J2O's downloads section reviewing stuff people upload and giving useful suggestions to new players that will make them want to stay and continue to participate.
Sure, plenty of it is and will be awful. That doesn't mean they aren't welcome or should be ignored. Simply paying attention and showing them that their work is being experienced keeps them interested.

Yep, I agree. People should check out the custom levels made by our users more often. Creating custom levels/tilesets and checking out others' work is the best part of the game. This is where the true qualities of the game come out. Review comments, critiques, etc.
reason why not many people play JJ2 online and it's pretty dead because this game is not a multiplayer online game. It's just some single player platform game with TCP/IP feature. You shouldn't view these as online games or multiplayer online games. These games are just for the joy of making you entertained.

Yeah because if a game has multiplayer support and that part of the game is still roughly as popular as 9 years ago that means the game has no multiplayer.
What the hell. JJ2 Multiplayer still has a steady amount of players. New levels for it come out weekly. Recently a patch was released that was primarily focused on multiplayer. The amount of battle levels (one of the many multiplayer game modes) uploaded to J2O alone is more than the amount of single player levels uploaded to J2O in total. It is clear to everyone but a complete moron that the multiplayer part of JJ2 is more active than the singleplayer part.
But sure, JJ2 doesn't really have multiplayer. Whatever floats your boat.

Yea JJ1 pwns. Totally agree with that. For instance, JJ1 has a couple racing levels as bonuses to the game, doesn't mean JJ1 is a racing game. Same with JJ2, it has that party mode option doesn't mean it's a true multiplayer online game. Unless there would be a new Jazz game out called Jazz Jackrabbit Online, then hell yea it'll be multiplayer online. Same goes if you're a firefighter doesn't always mean you're a hero. Get it? That's my point yall. Stop dreaming damn it! lol
However, I'm glad JJ2 did have some multiplayer addons. Kinda unofficial, but still some hope :). I hope this helps.

The thing is, there are a lot of people who play JJ2 (solely) as an online multiplayer game. There are tournaments regularly for JJ2 as an online multiplayer game. These facts are indisputable.
Also, all firefighters are heros to me. They risk their lives for the safety of others; what more could you ask?
n00b
Apr 22, 2008, 05:03 PM
The thing is, the bonus levels in JJ1 make up a minimal portion of the game. The Multiplayer portion of JJ2 has a presence just as large as the Single Player portion, and is made substantially larger when you factor in user-made levels; I believe Stijn said that the ammount of uploaded battle levels alone far outweigh the single player uploads. Now factor into that CTF, Races, Hotels, Treasure, and a host of other custom gametypes and the SP portion of JJ2 looks more like UT2004's single player campaign.
Even if you try to refute this with half-baked logic and unrelated analogies about jobs, you can't deny the fact that the multiplayer portion of JJ2 receives the most attention and you'd have to be a complete and utter idiot to not call it a multiplayer game or to deny the fact that it has a thriving multiplayer scene made up of various subcultures (The hardcore CTF fanatics, Clanwar Afficinados, the Polish etc.) that all play the game throughout the day seven days a week. Plus, I have been loosely keeping track of Quake and JJ2 players on various times of the day <not really, but its not like BBoy is going to call me out on this, hes just going to disregard it and be a complete tosser like always>and on average, JJ2 had more online players. How is it JJ2, a game you have to audacity to call "Singal Playr Only LOLZ" with no widespread popularity, that sold terribly, beating a game that is considered by many as an important milestone in competitive FPS gaming?
More people would start taking you seriously if you back up what you're saying with cold, hard evidence instead of this baseless, illogical fluff. Of if you actually took part in the Game-related part of the community instead of showing up making claims that barely anyone who actually plays the game agrees with.

Oh yes. We are all immature for even considering playing with a rabbit game. Someone kept saying that on this community a few years back. Who was it...?
Plenty of oldskool games have network, IPX and TCP/IP features. They were just additions to the game to make it more complete.
Then Descent, Descent 2, Descent 3, Descent Freespace, Duke Nukem 3D, Doom, Doom 2, Quake, Quake 2, Unreal, Starcraft, Warcraft, Mechwarrior 2, Mechwarrior 3, Mechwarrior 4 and any other game with a immense single-player plot has a multiplayer feature, but is "Single player only". You will, Liek, rly regret it if you ply multiplayer??
How about this: A game that is "Single Player only" DOES NOT HAVE NETWORK, IPX AND TCP/IP CODING IN THE FIRST PLACE!!
Of if you actually took part in the Game-related part of the community instead of showing up making claims that barely anyone who actually plays the game agrees with.
BBoy, perhaps you should actually play the game online before making such claims, since in fact it's the other way around and MP is way more active than SP.

I am quite impressed by Jazz2 (My favourite Game ever) is holding up.
22 people on at once is great, seeing as Unreal Tournament 3 had 103 people last time I played, and its fairly new. Along with that, the number of people who like this game is greater than you think. I am the only person I know who participates in Jazz community and such, but I know 10+ other people addicted to this game, Just from conversations with random people.
