Ideas for JJ2 1.25

Characters: Whenever people talk about making a new character for JJ2 its usually Razz, which would be sweet, but what about some of the other characters that would be fun playable. You could have the Queen, where her special is the wind blast, or maybe Eva if you had a good special(and a story where she wasn't captured). And then theres the bad guys. If you have a Star Wars game its just as much fun to play as the Sith as it is the Jedi. Why not have characters like the lizard, whose special could be throw bombs and use the helipact like rabbit ears when falling, or Devan. If code was obtained these would be easy to make because a large portion of the animation would already be there. The Tweedle Boss and other unfinished monsters could laos be immplemented into the game.

Weapons: Instead of all these patchs where you just make the Laser shield not crash servers, why not make an actual powerup? the only missing animation is the powerup crate? Also, the blade gun and fireballer from JJ2 1.00g could be easily obtained because the bullet animations are already there and you would just need to make the gun. For weapon utilities, a wildcard powerp would be nice (random gun on pickup).

Other Gameplay Features:Build things like weapon priority, list servers, chatlog into the game instead of all the side programs u need, and a more broad colour spectrum for names and fur without other programs.Finally fix up a few glitches like the spaz bird glitch, etc (but dont fix glitches with structural components people have built off (eg wallclimbing and bouncers through walls)


Ideas for JJ3

On major problem i sense with JJ3 was the sidescroller to FPS transition. It worked fine as a sidescroller and might have been better to stay instead of the FPS style of the JJ3 beta. You could do 3d, but make it a 3d sidescroller like the Kirby games where it scrolls around objects to make it a bit more complicated sidescroller.

1.25 well 1.25 has us talking for like years now when are we finally gonna see it , suggestions no hotels suported :D, buildin router bypasser , like a virtual port in jj2 , new guns , new enemies , new graphics> 32 bits , mp3 music in levels streaming radio on jj2 so u wont get bored by hearing the same song over and over shoutcast maybe , anyways contact me by msn or email both are shaney@craccoclan.com if u like the ideas

Add some vehicles like skateboards. Airboard was nice, skateboards would be sick. I'd add some laser guns for the new version too.

Cool, I dont like the part where we play with the bad guys tough, I mean it would be cool but its not necesary, it would be great tough if we could play with Razz or Eva

K. At least if ur gonna post ideas for them game make them not degrade the game quality.

Certain Badguys would be cool to play as, skateboards would be cool but a bit unneccisary, wtf a ferrarri? that would jump look stupid cause it would need to be a perfectly flat level or be able to fly making it like a hoverboard.

I think Jazz Jackrabbit 3 should be 3D, should use celshaded Unreal engine 3, should include great online playing and should be greatly customizable

I think JJ3 is be a 3D game and it looks good but some models are boring and the project was stopped :/

I think JJ3 is be a 3D game and it looks good but some models are boring and the project was stopped :/
Jazz Jackrabbit originarly was not made to be played in 3D mode.
We should continue with 2D.

My JJ3 must be:
3D, for sure.
More detailed graphics than GTA4.
More detailed music and acrobatic skills than Tomb Raider Anniversary.
3D editor.
More detailed collision events than Max Payne 2.

Allow me to point out NMA (http://www.nma-fallout.com/)'s Formula:

Negative fan reaction to a sequel of a game franchise = age of franchise/(size of fanbase(popularity of franchise))^2

Simply put, no matter how amazing or fantastic Jazz Jackrabbit 3 is (if it is ever made), the Jazz fanbase will shun it simply because it isn't a good Jazz game. See JJA corollary:

Even if a sequel to a game is good in its own right and tries out new things in the franchise, at least 15% of the fanbase will dislike and shun the game simply because it is not the original.

From both an average gamer's standpoint and a marketing standpoint, offering variation in games is a good idea: it creates a fresh new setting for gamers to play in, and it gives the company a new product to sell without relying on "it's just like the original!". However, many purist fans of a game franchise will dislike an entry in the series if it strays even a little bit from the original (see some Advance Wars fans, Smash Bros. fans, etc.).

tl;dr if Jazz 3 comes out it will probably be a fun game but the Jazz fanbase will hate it and keep playing JJ2.

Your argument doesn't hold up to experience. The JJ3D game had plenty of good reviews here, and a widely different reception than JJGBA. Some people might not play it because it'd probably be a 3D platforming game and they are not fond of such but these people would probably not play any 3D platformer.

You mention several franchises with a different experience but these are much more popular games with a much larger base. I think the Mario universe is so much more set in stone than the JJ2 universe, and much more considered canonical (sp?) that it's easier to have a major reaction.

If a Jazz3 was made, im sure we would all be happy no matter what.

I agree with level imports, maybe what could push JJ3 over the edge would be: Have a 2D section with more Chars, a second mode with gameplay like SoniC UnleasheD(Wii) where some parts are 3D sidescroller, some are 3D 3rd person explorer/shooter. That way everyone could be pleased.

I think as long as you can run, and Jazz didn't look and act like a Han Solo ripoff a JJ3 would be universally accepted as at least a decent thing by the fanbase.

I have a little Han Solo playing piece for Star Wars Monopoly, and his gun looks exactly like Jazz's gun in JJGBA.

But we've already talked about it in the 1.25 patch thread, so these threads don't really tell the community anything new. We might as well just revive the old ones and continue talking there.

Bug Fixes
- *PRIORITY* Fix Lori's inability to grab copters.
- Maybe tune the collision detection a little so players don't get stuck in floors/walls/ceilings when going "too fast".
- Give the Rocket Turtle some kind of AI for when it's not following Area IDs, even if it's basic AI a'la the Bee or Sparks enemies.
*- Fix/enable the following power-ups: Fast Feet, Extra Shield Time, Purple Gem (as it is, it's just a Red Gem that's purple), TNT Crate, Rect(angle?) Gems.

Improvements
- Allow upward aiming for Shield-type weapons.
- Either give Lori a higher jump or some way to match the highest jumping heights of Jazz and Spaz, even if it requires more speed. Lori can't access a number of routes Jazz or Spaz can as she is.
- Give Lori her own Fast Fire and Blaster Power-Up graphics.
- Change one of Lori's four colors so you can change her outfit color.

Possible Additions
*- Devan Shell in Party Mode. He's currently missing pole, hanging, and death animations, but he seems to have everything else. Edit: Nevermind.
- "Rabbit Roaster" Gun: After beating Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Jazz, Spaz, and Lori can use Devan's "Rabbit Roaster" in Single Player mode (except for Home-Cooked Levels, for "imbalance" reasons). It would pack more of a punch than the default Blaster weapon (or Spaz or Lori's default weapons) and comes equipped with built-in Auto Fire, but can't be upgraded like the other weapons, can't be fired faster than normal, and has an "overheat" meter.

Events and Triggers
- Revise the "Hurt" event: Make Hurt events hurt the player on ANY kind of touch as opposed to hurt only when standing on top of/inside a Hurt solid tile. Also, give the Hurt event a new toggle: "Solid". If Solid = 0, the player can fall through the Hurt tile's mask but still be hurt. (Useful for broken electrical conduits, laser beams, etc.) If "Solid = 1", the player can stand on the Hurt tile's mask, but will still be hurt. (Useful for spikes, lava, etc.) Lastly, maybe add a "Hearts" toggle which you can set from 1 to 5.
- Add a "Death On-Touch" event. Self-explanatory. Also, give it the aforementioned fixes of "on any touch" and "Solid" triggers. (Redundant if you can use a "Hurt; Hearts 5" event.)
- "Warp Random" event with a "Minimum" and "Maximum" pair of variables. (For example, if you put it down and set it to Minimum 10, Maximum 15, it will warp you randomly to a "Warp Target" with the IDs 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, or 15.)
**- Fix the "swarm" option randomly working/not working on the Bee Boy event.

That's all I can think of right off-hand. I'm sure I had more, but I can't recall most of them now...

...continue, life icon, drunk, airboard, airboard turn, landing, ending level, falling straight (and firing), buttstomping, firing and looking up, morphing to/from a frog, fly carrot (and firing), hurt, idle, floating, cooperative-bouncing and holding, standing at edges, moving at different speeds, pushing, revving, ball, skidding, swimming, swinging vine, air-warping... no, he's got a ways to go.

Im sure if anyone with decent art talents (maybe look in art forum?) could finish these if anyone really had the motivation to do so. I dont think Devan is necessary really. At some point adding all these new things will begin degrading the games quality until its like that mushy stuff you find in the fridge.
If you really wanted it wouldn't surprise me if someone in the community (Specifically tileset designers) would be able to pull it off. But then really, how many ppl will care. and plus fighting Devan's final boss as Devan would create a time space paradox and destroy the game anyway.

IF Jazz 1.25 really needed new features, id say a better HUD/GUI, increased amount of bits so you can have more warps/trigs, and some upgrades to JCS, of course the minor bug fixes here and there, and Epic if they did it would prob add a few new enemy's and tile sets in.

I personally, have always wanted an option under JCS for the enemy's to be able to set a health, so some weren't so easy.

The more greedy you guys get about adding big things, the less likely that they actually be implemented in the chance that further development does occur

I dunno, PlunK. I didn't think my ideas were all THAT out there. Aside from adding Devan to Party Mode, of course. Most of my ideas are just real simple bugfixes/slight modifications to the core engine and/or graphics. Heh. Really, I'd be real happy if Lori could grab the copters, but ESCTATIC if my palette change ideas were actually implemented. XD

well about yours then:

-Lori grabs copters is pretty important
-Loris jump needs to be higher as she cant complete some of the Haunted house levels really(she can its just really hard)
-I support the lori gun graphic, though practicality is a bit useless
-Colour swap would be decent on her dress, but ive only seen 1 lori online ever
-I'm neutral on the Devan, it would be bad but its not exactly neccisary
-Rabbit Roaster gun as a power up would be a reasonable implication, provided that it had like maybe a 20 shot max so it be classified as a timed superweapon
-hurts usually used as a solid object meaning it would be in random air, although the 1-5 damage thing i forward.
-Instant kill event it useless if you add the 5 heart damage to a hurt
-instead of warp random why not ujsut have multiple targets....
-stuck in walls is almost perfectly fixed in JJ2+
-IF you use the rocket turtle path well enough its like AI
-Fast feet was replaced by the speed/speed tapping commands and is therefor pretty irrelevant
-Extra time is a clone of stopwatch, therefore fixing is pointless
-Purple gem works fine it doesn't need some exotic value
-shooting up with shields is unnecessary they did thatn on purpose to reduce its overpowered attacking, plus if the bubbles is used properly it goes up above you
-TNT crate works, its just invisible
-never heard of a Rectangle gem before.

JJ1 disagrees.

Check JCS sometime, or look at the bottom of Diamondus Beta.

I think they really need to fix Lori up it's hard to get though the levels with her unless you know what you are doing and i tell yah finshing all the levels with her feels like work not fun but when you get though it does leave you thinking why they even added her in the first place.

She needs higher jumping, Better colouring because everytime i go to change her colours she always ends up with the same outfit colour where as spaz and jazz get differnt colours, she NEEDS to beable to get on the helicoputer platforms i hate playing her online but i just can't stop playing as her.

I could go on forever about changes that need to be made to her alone i have been using her since the game was first released and i tell you they most likly didn't even want to add her to the game she hads so meny bugs and bad design flaws it's not funny she needs to be fixed.

Well said, Lori seemed very un thought out and not completely functional, instead of wasting enrgy fixing her, just use the original, better characters

Good idea, but actually noone seems to work to make JJ3.
For now we have jj+ and that is the best thing ;)
