Crashings Back

I was hosting last night and not only was I crashed but before that someone was able to change the gametypev and what not.
This is pretty much (-)ed me off. That some sad little (-) has already exploited jj2+.

This must be fixed otherwise it will be another load of years of crashing.
Have any of you had this sort of problem , like where someone changes the gametype.

If you crashers think it's funny or amusing in anyway , then please go outside ;)

yesterday i was hostin my cool hotel (hey all join my clan we are rilly cool) en there come a player + him had a bad naym n his name an he say (-) hotels they stupid anbd i sed (-) you when you nawt lik hotels and i say i ban him butt he said he have ADS or something like that and he started renaming th udjer players sum way and i type ban and his number because other player said me tho did that and when i did jazz cloase and it show acess voilaton! and i not know what to do. i mak server agan but im afraid he com again and he said his clan is powerfull and can hack my pc. sould i ring the police?

i liked jazz cos its sonic clone if u havent noticed im a big sonic fan but sonic games not have miltiplayer mode. so jazz was purrfect :( im verry sad.

can u recomend me another game thats similar to jazz2 and has multiplayer but is not have hackers?

Some sonic games do have multiplayer mode, for example Sonic Adventure 2.

As far as multiplayer and hackers go, the best thing is to use tools like JJ2+. They stop most attacks, and you can always IP ban hackers.

Bans specific IP address. Asterisks can be used as wildcards.
Note that this command does not automatically kick any players with the banned address.

i got JJ2+ now but ahev a problem. my verison not work with JJ2+ and i have the sekret files it shoud work but it say not compatable. and i dont have money to buy 1.23 plus my frends not like 1.23 and i dont know where can download tsf thet work :( :( :(

People can hack your server with jj2+ now. Thats what i'm saying. So now I Can't host anything while i'm gone , or really host anything at all. Maybe if blur could fix this as he does have that program.

I noticed several AV's myself too recently which I wouldnt have before. Not that it bothered me much really. I just hope this won't leak out as much as ASD did before.

Sadly it will , who on earth waste's there time on makeing a programe to be a total arsehole and crash a server. Sure it's gonna annoy us a bit , but not much.
Whoever does make programe to crash jj2 servers , I strongly advise you to get a life. Sorry I'f that hurt you a bit , but you must wake up ;)

Well, theres still this very useful /ban option JJ2+ has. It bans IPs and thus the player would even be unable to send one packet to you (I hope)

Theres always this option: blur could block all incoming packets. you won't be able to show the send and recieve amounts but itd stop some stuff, cause from the images in this thread it looks like alot of crashing is sending packets and files to the host.

But honestly, whod waste their time to destroy a decade old game with a small community? If they really wanted to crash games they should do something more spectacular likes Halo 3 or something.

Now that I'm back on track, yeah that is a little scary. However, I am confident that it will be patched in the next jj2+ update and inactive and whatnot. The dev team knows what they're doing. :p

Oh come on, guys! That ultrahax image I posted is merely a hoax I had hoped some of you would have noticed it. It's just a screenshot of a GUI that I made in 10 minutes in VB6 to scare you off a bit. None of those buttons actually work. I guessed somebody was trying to get attention by posting an image of a tool that is supposed to be able to crash jj2+. So I decided to make one myself to show how easy it is to fool people. Personally, I believe that the other tool is also a hoax and cannot crash jj2+.

However, it is theoretically possible to remotely inject an arbitrary DLL into a jj2 process and both, jj2 and jj2+ are currently vulnerable to this attack. While I am not willing to discuss it in public, I will have to file a security report on this vulnerability sometime and include a fix.

Some people on the j2o site have created anti-cheat programs. I don`t know if the hackers found a way around that already, but try searching utility in the downloads and you should get a reasonably good amount of anti-hack, cheat and other bad what-not programs.

2) Err, I've never personally been server crashed with JJ2+, so I don't see why everyone's getting so worried, it's possible but does it happen all the time? Maybe you just unnecessarily ban people or something so they act out, similarly to how Torkell put it down.

3) JJ2 has been much worse before with crashers afaik, and now Cpp has gotten me very curious about that thing... ;o

With plus, jj2 is technically much more secure than it used to be before. It has patched many of the networking buffer overflows (several critical security flaws). In the past these were merely exploited to the point where they caused a server to crash, but could have easily been used to execute arbitrary code on a remote machine to compromise it. While many of the well-known flaws have been removed, there are still some not so well-known bugs that need to be addressed.

1) I may have fallen for it, I knew it was possible to possibly send a virus to you though via JJ2. That's what scared me there. ;p

2) Crashing rarely happens, yes, though at times. Not something to be worried of until everything leaks out again like ASD.

There's definitely more going on than meets the eye. As embarrassing as I may sound, I take that part back about not being able to crash jj2+. I've just witnessed some hacking going on on TSF (like ppl being able to chat as Console and some other hacks). While trying to blend into the group, I decided to display a few uncommon haxes. It turned out that an old weapon hax program of mine can easily crash plus servers. Although I'm not sure how, it is definitely possible to crash plus servers.

EDIT: Seems like only some servers are vulnerable.

In future keep your crash programs to yourself. No matter who you give it to it normally spreads. And that is why I made this thread to discuss what can be done about it. So after 50 posts of debats whether or not people can crash lets now discuss what this thread is for.

Also someone crashed me and as soon as I start my server it's crashed again. I'm guessing it's some auto crasher what keeps looking for the ip or something. And it won't display the ip for some reason.

Anyway, yes crashings occur. What's funny about it is, somebody could patch it with a security patch. And there may be a loophole in that security patch that allows a crash. So another one has to be released in order to fix that error.
