Is that actually true?
I've been wondering this for nearly four years.

Yes.
Mostly web spiders though (it also counts unregistered users).

Dude ive been wondering that as well. I would have thought in JJ2's prime itd be the best but 2005.... and theres no holiday or anything on jan 29th so what wasso cool
I was also thinking, why not make a front page post and say like Hey all JJ2 users go online at like 13:00 GMT on January 12th or something and try to get like over 1000

As said, that was mostly likely a day on which the search engines decided to have their spiders index our site. That 549 does probably not represent the amount of real, registered users online at that time.

I think someone should fix the forums and make it so it works and says how many people were really on!

Or just let it show registered users only. I don't think there are a lot of unregistered users who stick around and check the forum, anyway.

Actually, there are a bunch of them each day.

Actually, there are a bunch of them each day.
But I doubt that they are always the same person. What I'm saying is, there are so few unregistered people that reappear regularly, you might as well neglect the unregistered users.

Of course they are not the same person, if someone visits a forum often he would usually register.

My point exactly, good friend. That's why, for statistics at least, I think only registered users should count. Also because unregistered guests often aren't human.

Nah, not if you don't have anything to post. I've hung around forums for probably years without registering because the conversations were more interesting to read than to add to.

What Violet said. You can read a forum for ages without actually feeling a need to contribute to it. But basically, yeah, why not change the counter to only count logged in users? (if that's possible)

It's not.

For some reason I suspect you guys are referring to porn blog forums :P
Well how about someone fixes it so we have two statistics.
One for registered users, one for both, and then just for laughs, one for unregistered users only.

Of course it's possible. :p
I've seen it used before. I don't know if it was an openly shared vB plugin or a private vB hack, though. Point being, somebody, somewhere has done it, and I doubt it took enormous amounts of efforts.
It's totally not worth bothering with, of course.
