View Full Version : Installing a custom level pack made the game crash. Help?

I installed Lost World Episode on top of my existing JJ installation and I also installed patches for the main menu and Lori....and I'm not able to start the game, it stops after the single/multiplayer selection menu. I get this error:

I was wondering what should I do to make the game playable again and perhaps also actually play this level pack. Any help would be more than welcome. :-) If I need to run regedit, perhaps, what should I search for?

FYI:
I'm on Windows XP SP3.
I have TSF, the LK Avalon-distributed version and it's not located in a typical folder, but C > Avalon > Jazz 2
I have applied the patch from the CD.

And, I can, of course, live without the Lori patch and main menu shortcut, should it turn out they're the cause of this problem.

So does it only crash on the episode select screen, or in the multiplayer setup menus too? If the former is the case, then you probably have too many J2E files in your Jazz2 directory (the max is 8).

I had no idea about this limitation, thank you! :)

So, what should I do? Rename one until I'm playing this one? Make a subdirectory...?

Edit: I renamed the extension for XMAS98, knowing that it doesn't work either way, so now there's eight of them but things aren't changing.

Just delete the .j2e (episode) files unless you have 8 or less remaining.

It's not like they're exactly useful.

Works like a charm now, I'll keep this in mind. :)
