How am I able to turn a .png file + the mask.png into a .j2t file?

You must compile them in JCS. Put both files (mask and tileset) in the Tiles folder (a subfolder of your JJ2 installation). I think that both files need to be saved as 256 colour .bmp's though.

Then, from JCS, go to the tileset menu (button in the tileset window) and choose to compile a new tileset.

It works...
I turned a original .j2t into the two .png files
but when i turned them into 256colour .bmp s and then into a .j2t file
the quality was very bad...
Maybe somebody can help me with my two .png pictures to turn them into a good looking .j2t.

You might want to read up on the concept of "palettes" on Disguise's Tileset Resource (http://www.jazz2online.com/tilesets/).

I know the pain. I'll see if i can fix up you tileset. Can i have png files?

Ok this thing needs a biig pallet fix. Lucky, that's not a huge problem. While I'm at it I'll also make sure you textured background works. Just hold tight!

that are the two .png files but the violet parts are very irregular...
you edit them every way you want...
if it's possible try to create a .j2t file...

Nobody has mentioned TilesetPal (http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/downloads/info.php?levelID=3723) yet? It ought to be able to reduce the palette to 256 colors without too much/any real loss in definition.

I used TilesetPal
cause of this Thread:
http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showpost.php?p=452317&postcount=2
And it looks good,
but i have got Problems with Transparency...

The .j2t file:

ok here's the tileset with almost everything fixed up. I only need to get the textured background working. Other then that, this should work. Working pallet, transparency fixed, masking. I'll get back to you with the background fix soon. if i can.

Let me just point out that the original tileset image had a working palette, so you could've made modifications without breaking the palette events (http://jazz2online.com/tilesets/palette3.htm) and the textured background (http://jazz2online.com/tilesets/texture.htm). Also, to solve the transparency issue yourself, place the color you want to use for transparency in the second index in the palette while leaving the first palette index black.

The image i worked with didn't have one. The png had no pallet and he bmp, didn't even come close as the jazz2 pallet part wasn't correct

I should've been more clear. That post was directed to Calvin with the assumption that he got the original Town tileset image through Neobeo's Tileset Extractor.

I only extracted the image.png and mask.png from the original tileset town2.j2t.
Then i modified the image.png it to the picture i have uploaded.
I also have modified .bmp i tried myself to put them into a .j2t but they all have the problem that they are not transperant.

Instead of modifying the original image through the image manipulation program of your choice, you can edit the palette of the image separately and then load the edited palette into the original image. I recommend using Palette Suite (http://www.alister.eu/palsuite/) as it is good for editing a range of colors and making gradients. Palette Suite also allows you to load a palette into an image through the Use Palette tab.

I need some help with this too. I got my tileset + mask, right size, 256 color with transparency, but no idea how to compile. I don't see any button in JCS. The only button that apparently does something of importance is the "Set..." button which shows a list of all tilesets, but when I click "Add" it asks me for .anm files.

Put it in the tiles directory in your JJ2 folder. It'll appear in the lists after that.

My PNG files are in the tiles directory, called Jazz and JazzMask, but I can't see them in any of the lists.

JCS can't work with PNG. Try changing them to 256 color bitmaps.

Right, that works. Thanks for all the help.

Argh, having some trouble with the transparency now. The first color in the palette is #5700cb, which is the color that should be transparent, but it's not. Is there a trick to it or something? I'm using Photoshop.

Sorry for asking so much, I'm a complete noob in this territory.

You might want to take a look at the palette section of this (http://www.jazz2online.com/tilesets/) website.

Jeez, this is alot of hassle for just adding one tile to a tileset. JCS could have been a bit more user friendly when it comes to making tilesets.

I think I'm just gonna leave it be, but thanks anyway

By the way, I mentioned this earlier in this thread:
Also, to solve the transparency issue yourself, place the color you want to use for transparency in the second index in the palette while leaving the first palette index black.

Well I tried that but apparently the first color in the palette is in use, so when I change it to black part of the tileset screws up. And I don't know how to fix that.
