Or: Do you mind if your IP is shown for everyone?

Thinking of uploading the playlog for Zeal Duels ones every night and making it public.
Good or bad idea?

i don't mind, as long as you erase the IP-addresses from the log. i know they aren't that 'private'. but there is no need to show them to everyone.

Don't bother removing the IPs.

Lower the quality, make the IP's unreadable. ;)

I think it won't take much more than 5 minutes or so to build a PHP viewer for those logs, which removes the IP addresses.

And with a little more effort such a viewer could turn out really neat

I think it's a good idea. Even better would be to make a webpage where the stats are broken down by player, so you can see more than just the raw playlogs. Years and years ago iced used to run a CTF server where it did this.

Would be appreciated if you give it a try.

The first idea was to make something similar to ngstats from UT.

But everyone I talked to so far, feels like it is a bit to hard.

You are refering to something that was experimental and hasent been re-uploaded since "forever".

What, exactly, is there against displaying IP addresses?

Monobot used to generate stats for the #jj2 IRC channel. If that code is still kicking around, It might be possible to implement that.

The stats can tell us quite a few useful things, like where the majority of players are, the peak server hours, the most addicted player etc. I wouldn't mind if the IP adresses were filtered out, but maybe find a way to connect IP adresses to user names (Be it multiple user names or IP addies) <strike>and help the community trace the rogue players</strike>, that would be cool
