View Full Version : Need to open my passworded level...

A good while ago I started fooling around with JCS, and I made a pretty awesome level with the Jazz 1 Medivo graphics. Well, I thought it was awesome for my first level.

But anyway, I put a password because I thought it was "cool" or something, too bad I was too stupid to make a backup of it. I tried any and every password I can remember that I ever used on the internet, but to no avail.

So is there a way to get rid of the password? Or, maybe it's better to say, what is the way? From searching this forum I understand there is some way by using a tool or program or patch, or whatever. But apparently it's taboo to upload it or post a link, which I can understand.

Still, I really want to work on my level again. What can I do?

By the way, my level was made with the TSF JCS.

I also have some questions about JCS as well:

- How do I use transparent tiles? Which layer do I put them on? I put all my tiles on layer 4, but if I try to put transparent tiles on that as well I get the ugly purple spots. All the other layers I tried were either background layers or foreground layers so that didn't work.

- How do I load the animating tiles that belong to a tileset?

You just need a password hack program to open your map. I'm sure one of the community members have one, but I think it would be for the best if you sent your level to them and they cracked it for you than handing out "best not distributed" programs.

To make a tile transparent, right click it in the tileset and select transparent (somewhere) in the menu. It's really short so it's not that hard to find.

To create animations, first select a row in the animation tiles window. Then ctrl + click the tiles you want to add to the animation. You can right click the animation to edit how fast the animation should go and more.

That's cool with me. I'll just drop the link to my level here, then hopefully someone can unlock it for me.

Also thanks for the help.

For the transparent thing, it doesn't accomplish what I want. If you check out this screenshot (http://pub.gamingw.net/66645/Naamloos.png), you see the purple area around the object-thingy. Well, I'd like to have that object overlay over the dark red cobblestone tiles. Is that possible?

Ah!

You need to use layers. Typically, you'll work primarily on layer 4. To put the red bricks "behind" layer 4, you can put them on any layer behind that, but people typically use layer 5 for that. Press ctrl+5 to open up the layer 5 properties; make sure it has the same width and height as layer 4. Then set X- and Y-speed to 1, and both auto speeds to 0. Now you can simply put the red bricks on layer 4, behind the objects you want it to be covered with.

Alright, that worked. Thanks.

Here is your level without a password.
http://www.mediafire.com/?qmyjuywezjo (Although I did have to switch it to 1.23, so hopefully it's not ruined somehow.)

For future reference, you can do this yourself, using this method, if you know what the password is.

If not, you can use a hex editor on the level, and check out this thread.

From the looks of it, it's still exactly as I made it. Thanks a lot!

You may want to go through the articles on this site to familiarize yourself with the basic functions of JCS (layers, animations, a few of the trickier events, and so on).

Can anyone give me a link to a password cracking program?

As I mentioned in my previous post, you can use any hex editor, and the advice given here (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=17672) to do it. There are several free hex editors you can easily find and download, although you'd have to consult someone else if you wanted to know which is best. I've only ever tried one, and I don't remember where exactly I found it.

As for TECjcs, or a similar program more specific to .j2l's, I unfortunately can't help. I don't have anything of that nature myself.

If you've locked yourself out of one of your levels, and can't figure it out yourself, you can almost certainly find someone to hack it for you. Help will presumably be less forthcoming if you're trying to break into someone else's level, of course. (And Reworder recognizes passwords, much to my delight, so don't bother.)
