View Full Version : A call for new JDC officials

Continuing from a JDC newspost:
This thread is being made because JDC currently has a lack of people able or willing to host events. If you would like to be a JDC official, this is your chance to become one.
If you would like to be an official, you must meet the following criteria: you have to be able to host events; you have to have some understanding on how to use JJ2+ (this one is easy); and you have to at least have some understanding of how events work. When it comes to JJ2+, the main thing you need to know is how to set up the remote admin feature.
We are mainly looking for event hosts. That is to say, people who are able to host the event servers. You do NOT need to know how to do scoring, or anything complicated like that: the main thing we need is good servers.
I should also note that hosting is fairly easy, since big events will have the levellist and server settings supplied ahead of time. Therefore, if you are just hosting, most of the work will already be done for you.
If you become an official, you will also get added privileges, such as the ability to organize your own events (pretty much whenever you want!), access to our top secret private JCF forum (actually it's a pretty boring place, but useful), and you'll get to play on the officials team in OvC events. You'll also have the ability to post news on JDC and other stuff like that.
Anyone may apply. If you are interested, post something here and we can discuss details later. If you want a more immediate form of communication, try #jdc on quakenet (make sure to highlight cooba or EvilMike if one of us are there).
I am willing to consider anyone who meets the criteria outlined above. My mindset has always been "more events = better" when it comes to JDC, so the way I see it, you actually have a decent chance of becoming an official if you are interested in it.

I'll volunteer because I helped SJ to host some events in the past.

Well, it would be nice if I was an offical since I can host, and a very active player (I try to come on at least once a day). My server generally isn't very laggy, and even better I might be able to think of some new ideas for JDC events...wait does that count?

I got a lot of free time, so I wouldn't mind hosting.

I would like to become an official and help with the events or organize them myself. I can host and I know how everything works so I believe I meet all the criteria :)

I am a volunteer for this. I am about every night free. Though I currently cannot host, it should be fixed pretty soon. I guess I could then host pretty fast servers, as I have 24mbit connection. (I hope UPnP works on my router)

I'd like to sign up for this aswell, i've been extremely active and i am willing to organise stuff for jj2. I'm taking my time a lot in those kinds of things (Thank you oh holy veg for correcting thinks to things what was probably just a typo xP).
Even my pc is not too decent, my internet connection is pretty fast, there shouldn't be much wrong if i close my programs, and i know at least most european players have a low ping in my server.
I know where i can find the levels, I know most levels on jj2 anyways. And I'm mostly available. I also know how jj2+ works and I pick up info quite fast. Though i don't have hundreds of files at the moment since my pc crashed lately.

Well I am able to organize my own events
-very active player.
-My server doesn't lag, also, I know how to use JJ2+.
-I am smart, and I can get new infos very fast, and I will understand them very fast, too.
-I play a lot of 3v3s, so it will be good if I can submit them. (Most of them aren't submitted, because I(and other players) couldn't find any official to submit them :( )
-You said you like when there are more and more events. If I become an official, I will host at least 2 per round (I mean at least 2 spontaneous events, and maybe some other ;) )

I'm willing to host as an official; I would need to do some router configuration, but I'm here as well so let me know.

Well, I obviously recommend Sasik as Official. Wasn't he one in earlier seasons?

Hmm I don't remember him ever being one.
Anyway, thanks for everyone who has posted so far. There are a number of people here already who I think would make good candidates.
Of course, people who haven't posted yet can still do so. There's really no deadline here, although I would like to have at least some of the recruiting done by the end of the week (though no userlevels will be changed until I can personally go over all the necessary details, with each person individually).

Although I am currently unable to host, I would be highly willing to become an official. I'm very active, being online on almost every day of the week. I'm up to date with the JJ2 scene, having a good knowledge of what makes JDC fun and the levels which work well in events. Even if I'm unable to get my router sorted soon, I'll still be willing to admin in events and organize my own events, by using snz as a host.

Like PJ, I'm currently unable to host. I have a dedicated server project ongoing though, and I might be able to host 24/7 in the future.
As for the second requirement, the software I will implement on the server might not be the traditional JJ2 & JJ2+ combo, but something else... Anyway if I'll get this thing to work, I should have full understanding on how to use it ;)
I should also understand how events work in general, I have fully read the information and event description pages and have participated in a number of events.

I'm unable to host, the only commands I know are "/c" and "/wc", I'm almost never playing online, I don't have an idea which levels are good, my connection and PC are very slow, I often have AVs without a reason, I never played any event or serious game, but I want to be an official since it sounds cool.

Well, you indicated that it would be fixed soon.
Anyway, finding officials who are able to host is the #1 priority, so people who fit that criteria are obviously going to be considered first. However, I'm willing to consider other people as well, but only once the hosting situation is dealt with.

Oh. Well I have to say your offer is very tempting, but I'm going to have to decline in your case. I forgot to mention that another criteria for becoming an official is actually having a JDC account in the first place.

I totally agree with Ragnarok. Are you totally crazy? He wants to be an official and you reject him straight away, without even considering? So what if he doesn't have a JDC account, it's totally unneeded for this!

???
Treya isn't exactly a beginner anymore, so I don't mind. But your argument is seriously flawed.

Is this better?
She also says she has ideas.
But yeah, maybe I'm somehow biased. Ignore me, I feel awkward replying here anyway.
I'm not saying that Treya wouldn't make a good official. I'm just saying that being a girl, nor being rather new, is what makes her well-suited :p

For those who are confused by Grys post (no offense, it confused me at first because of the way it's worded). Gry is probably saying that just because she's a girl and relatively new doesn't mean she should become an official.

May I know how new officials will be selected? We'll draw straws. It's interesting how Gry said nothing about Quickz's recommendation of Sasik becoming an officialFor example, Ron97 is the guy I wouldn't trustPlease let us decide.

May I know how new officials will be selected? I imagine the best way would be to have each of them host a server, then have 31 people from different parts of the world join and play some games, in order to see whether there's lag.
Nah it's nothing that complicated. Just going to look through the people in this thread, have a bit of discussion about it between officials and admins, and choose who we think would work best. There's no need to have people host servers or anything fancy like that, since it basically comes down to location and internet speed. In terms of lag, there's not a huge difference between having 10 players, 15 players, or even 31. If your server can give a decent ping to people dueling, it can handle a full event.
And besides that, even hosts with a good internet speed will be laggy for some people, due to location. For example, I get about 200 ms on fast servers if they are in europe. This is because I live in vancouver (thats like 8000 km away and 9 or 10 time zones, not to mention an entire ocean). Likewise, my server can be pretty bad for most players, even though my internet connection is pretty good.

No. It means that I cannot host on my current location (middle of nowhere now) but I am today moving to my real home, where my good connection is. I'll say there that can I host or not.
Edit: I can host. Everybody on my server had pings 100-200.

Jul 16, 2010, 08:51 PM
Oh yeah, might as well announce it, Sasik and Jgke (J96) have had their userlevels upgraded to Official. They will be the only ones we're adding this weekend, since we don't want to add everyone at once, and we want to start with the people who are most likely (and able) to host events. That is our main need, after all.
Both ought to have access to the JDC Officials forum. Also J96, I can explain the necessary stuff. If you're playing in the JB event tomorrow, discussing it afterwards would be most convenient (need to explain certain procedures, give ftp access, etc). For now just get a look at all the shiny new buttons and try not to delete everything.

I have a suggestion for you guys:
Starting from next JDC season, besides the regular every year officials, why not get a group of ppl on a per season basis who will be free for that season and have confirmed their hosting?
Idk thats just my opinion, that if you get ppl that are active for that season it would easily prevent hosting shortages for that season, just put up a sign up sheet a few weeks beforehand
