How to activate cheats

I have a friend who were stuck in a level and wanted some cheats to continue.

How do you activate cheats?

I have tried to pause the game and the hit the backspace key and then enter the codes.

It doesn´t work.

I have read that you should hit ´P´ to pause but that doesn´t work. I can however pause via the menu.

Please help.

In Jazz Jackrabbit 1 you have to pause the game (p), press backspace, then you can enter the Cheatcode (http://www.dutchfurs.com/~haze/blog/static.php?page=jj1cheats).

In Jazz Jackrabbit 2 you do not need to do anything special, just type the codes (http://www.jazz2online.com/articles/view.php?articleID=195). Note that they all begin with "jj"

Tried that now but it doesn't work to just type the code. Tried both small letter and capitals.

Could it be that it is in a window?

Edit: some codes seem to work, like next level.

Make sure you type the code in right. typing codes shouldn't matter if you are in window mode or not.

If you press F9 twice so it brings up the framerate and position, then type the code, you will see what you are typing on the left side of the screen.
