I realize this may be relatively poor timing, given that there is another (awesome) map making competition currently going on, but I had actually intended to start this today, so I will simply make the deadline later! I am so nice.

So, yes, a competition! I am hosting the first-annual Wind Meister map making competition. This is your chance to show the JJ2 community your skills at making wind-based tests. There are a few rules to follow, but for the most part I want you to exercise your mind and make the Wind Meister you would want to play.

1. Wind Meister maps traditionally feature about 14 tests or so. It would be good if you were in this range, but having more or less tests won't hurt your chances of winning.

2. Wind Meister maps traditionally use these tilesets: Cool Day, Cool Night, Top Secret, or Hocus Pocus. Levels should use one of these tilesets or any variants of them that you like.

3. Extra points for incorporating some form of storyline into your level. By this I don't mean "add several text strings to tell a loosely related story," but more "use creative levelmaking to make a compelling story unfold before the player."

4. All maps must be playable online using JJ2's treasure mode and/or CTF mode. Do not include anything in the map that makes this impossible.

5. It's up to you if the test should be playable as Jazz, Spaz, or both.

6. All entries should be submitted no later than 12:00 PM (Pacific Time) on November the 5th.

The winner will receive a secret prize, to be revealed in the near future (before the deadline).

I don't know if I'll actually finish anything but count me in on this for now!

One note: tests probably should be playable in CTF mode, not treasure. This has been standard for a long time now, and it has the advantage of not having players bump into each other. Levels that don't support this will feel very... old fashioned.

Mike, I suppose that's reasonable. My way of thinking was always that it adds another level of challenge to a test by playing it in treasure mode. However, I suppose since the norm really is CTF now, I shall allow either.

DOUBLE POST OMG

It would be totally sweet if an admin could newspost this. Only one person entering would make my contest dreadfully lame. :(

Ah thats a shame BN, I would volunteer myself but I don't have any experience with wind tests. If it isn't too hard to learn I may attempt to enter.

Speeza, feel free to do examine any of the existing Wind Meister levels, or to do what I did the first time: look at Violet's Windy Tests and butcher the idea.

I have never made a test level before, in my life. And I'm pretty awful at playing them.

I'm in.

I maybe can join, but I am not sure :p . My creativity is not good in test levels :) . I never made a test level before so I guess I will try to make it now.

I'm pretty bad when it comes to making test levels.
Maybe next competition ?

Wind test? Honestly there are lots of limits to what is possible using Wind or Float events. Unless you're using Spaz, where the double jump open up possibilities.

I'm in.

By the way, can I made a test just for one character, or is it better to make it possibile to play as more?

The problem is, making a decent test level is actually a pretty big project. It's like that assault level competition; it's a massive undertaking and not many people have the motivation or time for it.

There's nothing wrong with making a test for only one characters. All the Wind Meister tests are designed for Jazz (but mostly work for Spaz too).

We're coming down to the last few days of the contest, and I have not yet received anyone's finished entries. Be sure to finish soon for a chance at the SUPER SECRET MYSTERY PRIZE*.

Sorry, school and life have been conspiring to not give me time to work on the level. And I don't have the experience making (or even playing) tests, so I'm afraid I probably won't be able to finish my entry.

I would love to have participated, but, yeah. No time. Maybe I can make you some sort of tribute in the wintertime.

Oh so that screen shot was just a "mock" picture ?
Not a real tile set ?
I'll actually make something now, it's the least I can do for the sheer brilliance of the fooruman creator. I'll try my best.

So, the 5th has come and passed, and the contest is now over. If the contestants would post their entries on this thread or PM them to me, that would be greatly appreciated!
