View Full Version : Bad behaviour online

Hello!
First of all I'd like to apologize from Chillax, Ester, Vulkan and several other players my behaviour today. It was unasked for and childish. I lost my nerves that's all. I am sorry and I hope no trouble was coused. I take back everything I said and everything I did.
Then to my main topic. I hate it when people continuously whine about lag during games. It makes me angry and sad... We all know there is lag in the game and sometimes you get an airhit, but is it really worth it to ruin the mood by shouting: "AIR! 3HK! YOU CHEAT!"?
What do you guys think? Should a behaviour code of some sort be introduced?

Well...If you would unban me I would be really glad...btw. banning random people is really NOT a good idea while you shouldn't be even able to have admin rights on ZD that you actually have...we understand you lost your nerves but don't ban random people because of it...anyways, I forgive you :)

Behavior code aye.... what about a reputation feature !
Jokes aside, there's not much what can be done, the server can mute players can't (s)he ? Maybe blur could introduce a mute client side, (I think there might already be one) That way you can't complain.

I think an unofficial behavior code definitely already exists. Everyone agrees, pretty much, that spamming messages of any type is annoying, and things like asking for the admin pass get old really fast. Even if we were to create something more formal, many people simply wouldn't care or would think that when they yell "AIR! 3HK! YOU CHEAT!" it's not spam because it actually was an air 3hk. Plus, the only thing you could do to enforce a set of rules would be to mute/kick/ban offending players. Which is exactly what is already done to players who violate the informal rules.
So, while having a set of rules to govern behavior online does make some sense, I think that trying to implement it would just lead to some massive flamewar over exactly what the rules should be, and would have minimal effect on actual online behavior.

Indeed, there already is. Just type /mute # like you would if you were the host. (Unlike when hosting, it only mutes that player for you rather than for the whole server.)

We need a behavior code. And everyone shall obey it or be banned. }>
Now really, even if we would make up the rules, what would guarantee that the players would follow them?

or then 'air', '3hk', 'lag' and their variants could be censored in the chat :D:D:D:D

Some players seems to be spaming "air", "lag" and "3hk" as an attempt to get the opponent in a bad mode.

Hmm...actually saying air isn't a good idea in games, it lets the enemy know your health. That's why I've pretty much stopped saying it. And I know cheating when there is, and that only tends to happen in public servers anyway. I could understand 3hks though, those are hard to prevent, and you cannot restore yourself without dying (at least i think so).

Let's just all gather and play on LAN.
If some players kept the attitude they got online also in real life, I could see some hilarious extremely violent fights going on there.

I rarely complain about lag during games, sometimes I will since players like to pick levels that are easy to control in duels, thus they are very lag sensitive (If you don't believe me, try dueling a few times in DW and see how an airhit will screw you, even at 4-0 or 9-0). That's not to say that everyone is justified in saying that their defeat or win was caused by lag. There are lots of exceptions, such as lag giving you an advantage if you have some of it, since other players shots won't register on you etc. It's generally worse to have more lag though.

I think lag is a part of the fun.. do you see what I mean? JJ2 is like real life, not always the better player wins cuz luck and other variables are involved as well.

If you constantly get lag complaints when hosting and you have a good ADSL (about at least 1Mb/s, I have that and people have never complained about lag on my server), trying shutting down all internet using programs like messenger, P2Ps, Steam, downloads, IE, etc., but not firewall and antivirus(!!!). That might help.

If you really to guarantee that no one will complain about lag, you should also shut off Jazz.

I agree for the most part, but better players win almost all the time, lag & 3 heart kill part of the game and good players will understand them & use them to their advantage especially in LRS and Pest. I like lag but more than lag I like it when people complain about lag, or just curse every time they die like Vulkan does.

Lag in DW is indeed one of the most annoying things you can think of. It can make you lose without a chance cause theres no way to gain control anymore.

how should I know I haven't played very much, I take it you don't consider it a complement to be called a cheater by Vulkan, I'll ask him sometime maybe he'll curse. lol

Sep 30, 2010, 04:32 PM
what? Vegito, lag annoying, lag can make a seeker hurt you when its three or four squares away, it can kill you without you knowing what hit you, lag can make a enemy seeker(s) send you halfway up the level without hurting you, great fun. I might call lag frustrating but not annoying.

Ashurna: I know what lag is. I am one of the best duelists at JJ2 around still.
I just asked who you are cause I don't play in public servers very often so I did not recognize you ;-). It was in no way meant to be offensive. Just wondering what your nickname at JJ2 is. I am guessing it is Ashurna ;) If you started playing at the 23rd of september we indeed haven't met yet :)
Thanks for the introduction

Better yet, if you want to play dirty, you can start complaining about air when you're at full health to trick the opponent into thinking you're at low health. Can't say I've seen this practice in action yet though, but it's easy to imagine people using it.

Yes, for if to the general discourse is not due contributed, this will slowly become a forum of illusion.

Indeed, and we can't have illusions running around the place - imagine what will happen to the real estate prices once those apparitions start showing up!
