Aaaand the grand prize winner is...

BATTLE FOR CHEESE!
(failure.j2l)

The attention to detail in this level is just lovely. A lot of effort went into making it as crappy as possible, and you can sure tell. Even I wouldn't have thought of this stuff. The JJnowall? The Fat Chick pit? The level size? INGENIOUS, I SAY.

The prize will be a 320x160 signature banner of the Bubba boss eating cheese. It will arrive some time soon.

Awesome, any chance you can change your mind about it being 1.23 only ?

I'll be in. And Speeza, levels can be EASILY converted so it's fine.

minmay
Oct 13, 2010, 02:25 PM
Yeah, just use the converter. Mainly I'm worried about people submitting a level that's 1.24 and doesn't need to be 1.24 because it would be crappier that way - the same goes for submitting a level in .lev format or something. I want to see crappiness in the level itself, and nowhere else.

Done. (http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/6372/atrocity/) Although I have to say, this level is actually ridiculously awesome. The eyecandy is gorgeous (unless you have epilepsy), and makes it so it's nearly impossible to tell what's going on by looking at the level. This will force players to use true skill instead of noobish tactics like looking to see where the walls are and where the floor is. There are a good number of warps and some trigger scenery, so when people start training on this level like they do in semi, they'll be able to get around the map without allowing their opponent (or themselves) to predict where they're going. Everyone knows the red team is better, so I gave them the advantage they deserve. Spaz is also better, so I made sure those Jazz and Lori can't get to the red flag. Also, the level has plenty of seeker power ups, so the really good players can use their talents to spam seekers.

Fair enough. I'll think of something. I'm in.

This is the biggest CTF level ever.

By the way, as a separate contest, I will give a reward to anyone who plays a serious CTF duel in this level, to 255 points, with no maximum time limit. I must be allowed to spectate (in order to verify the game is legit). No breaks are allowed.

I think I'm in,since I always make crappy levels. Is SP allowed?

Good luck to anyone who attempts mikes contest. Considering that literally millions of players will tolerate rather linear gameplay related things in some mmorpgs, I think someone should pull it off.

EvilMike
Oct 14, 2010, 01:03 AM
My rough calculations tell me that it would take the longer than a year, non-stop to finish 255 points in that level (assuming both players play, and that they die sometimes).

With one player running from base to base, each point will take about 1.42 days. Which means 255 will take a few days short of a year.

I'm rather curious what it must feel like to roast your opponent, then accidentally go to the wrong base to score in Mikes level.

Back in the J2C days, some people were really into the idea of taking the JJ2 levels and replacing the events. That hasn't been done for a while... until Pizza Wars: The Quest for the Uterus.

Behold, the "best level ever".

EDIT:
Although it may seem like a 30-second level, it isn't. I put time and effort into figuring out exactly how to make the most annoying level I could. The custom tileset doesn't tile, it's automasked, I intentionally scrambled the jj2 palette, I made sure to leave the level name "Untitled", I...
Yeah, I had fun. :D

I am going to politely ask that from now on, entries to this contest be submitted by uploading them to your own webspace or some free host such as mediafire. Deliberately bad levels are funny, but the recent flood of them on j2o is a bit annoying. I'm just suggesting that if you know that a level is horrible, it probably doesn't belong on J2O.

This is just a request (I'm not going to delete anything, or try to enforce this). I know that I'm not the only J2O admin to feel this way, though. I'm also not asking anyone to delete their own uploads, although if you want to you are free to. (note that it can still be downloaded if you have a direct link to the zip file itself, since you'll only erase it from the listings. Therefore, you won't have to upload it somewhere else if you choose to do this.)

And besides that, minmay certainly agrees with this sentiment. I know he posted his own opinion on this a few days ago, but I thought I'd back him up on that, since people are still uploading their entries to J2O.

Violet CLM
Oct 17, 2010, 08:35 PM
Agreed. A number of perfectly good uploads and also Violent Winds are being sent inexorably down the list by these parodies without having gotten so much as a single review.

Alright, I deleted it. Here (http://www.mediafire.com/?4ooot1bjo3wdj64)'s a link if you still want to download it. (Why would you want to do that?)

I've actually been holding off on uploading a fairly good level I finished recently, since if I put it on j2o before the 20th, I'm worried it will quickly displaced from the top of the page by garbage :P

I have a feeling I went for the wrong kind of 'crappy', but never mind. Not long till the worst level is decided.

I like your level the most, hope you'll win actually. Ofc, it's impossible since I'm going to take apart. You may find it a bit unfair because you've got no chance - I'm a Pole. No one can beat a Pole in such contest.

Doubleposting! The thing (http://www.mediafire.com/?8d5chwp06dcwwv0) is finished. It merges a lot of noobish style with some a bit more advanced techniques creating a very Polished level. The only thing it's probably lacking is a QoB roulette. I still believe my country itself should win this contest for me though (so it's quite possible I didn't put enough effort on the level, overrating the reputation of my countrymen).

Sadly, that's not a screwed up as my castle1. I destroyed it years ago before I knew what I was doing in JCS, and never got around to fixing it. Then, when I first got back into the game and was learning how to make tilesets, I created an awful castle edit that I applied to the level.

Something must be wrong with the categories if my level got only one award. They're just utterly horrible.

Well, anyway congrats for all the crap-makers and I hope to see a next such contest in the future. It really helped me have a bit of break in serious level-making and I really enjoyed playing most of the levels submitted.
