JCS Awards 2010 [Voting Thread]

This continues from the <a href="http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=19025">nominations thread</a>.

There are seven categories. You are allowed to vote for one entry in each category. You may, however, vote in fewer categories if you wish. You can even vote for just one thing. When voting, please state which category each of your votes is in so it's fully clear. Unlike I said in the nominations thread, the single screen singleplayer contest entries will not be voted on, because the contest has already come to a conclusion in its own voting thread.

Try not to vote for yourself.

Just as last year, there are three ways to vote. The first is to simply post in this thread. The second is to post in this thread <em>and delete the post</em>, and then at the end a mod will undelete it to reveal what you voted for. If you do this, your vote will be anonymous (even I can't read it). However, make sure you put in the delete message that you voted. The third way is to PM me with your votes. When it comes time to count, I will post your votes in this thread, to keep things fair. I will not read your message until that time, so make sure you make it clear in the title.

Best Battle of 2010: Intercity Grudge Match - because it's one of my favourite levels of all time. Dream Stage and Surreal Supersuburbs are close though.

A few personal notes:

This was a really good year for SP levels, and it was hard for me to choose something to vote on. 2009 barely had any SP... there was basically my episode, and like one other level worth noting. 2010 had a ton of SP on the other hand, and a lot of it was very high quality. Overall Dreamscape impressed me the most, even though there are parts of it which I don't like. Technically it's an unfinished pack, but it doesn't feel at all unfinished (the trippy story helps with this - it has an excuse to feel disjointed).

I'm glad to see blurredd finally uploaded his battle levels to j2o. It's about time!

With CTF levels, I made three of them in 2010, with the last time I finished a CTF level being 2006. I'm glad to see people liked them and that all three were nominated (!), although I'm probably less likely to win the award because of that. Personally, I think employee of the month is better than the other two, but I'm not going to vote for any of my own levels. Minimal Duel gets my vote.

Also noteworthy is the contest that spawned EoTM and Minimal Duel. This contest attracted a lot of quality level makers, and a few surprises (was neat to see stripe make a level). There need to be more contests like this. If there was an award for best contest, this one would have to win.

I vote for Blackraptor on best JCSer, because he released many SP levels, even if they were made earlier than 2010. I would have voted for Snooze, but I don't like how he deletes his levels, and I think his behaviour is rather shameful.

I would love to vote, guys, but I'm afraid I must admit that I haven't been playing JJ2 at ALL last year. Therefore, I have no knowledge of the current levels and tilesets and thus my vote can't be taken seriously. :(

I was a bit torn between this and ILWI, because both of them show a lot of care and effort put into designing the layout. I've decided to go with FawFul's level in the end, though. It did get a higher place than EotM in the JJ.net contest, for a reason!

Best Battle of 2010: Apocalyptic End

I have fun playing in this level no matter whether I'm leading by 10 roasts, losing by 20, running around alone in an empty server, or even when I'm only spectating others play.

Best Singleplayer of 2010: Dreamscape

It shows that EvilMike's behemoth of an episode hasn't fully exhausted the SP potential of JJ2.

Best Tileset of 2010: RaneforusV

This one deserves it for its 'Past' palette version alone, pretty much.

It might feel weird that I'm voting for EM and yet I haven't voted for any of his nominated levels, but I think that the overall amount of his JCS work this year is more than the sum of its single levels. FawFul is a very strong runner up here - he released less levels, but they were of consistently high quality. He's come a long way since Planetary, and I expect a lot from him in this upcoming year.

Dream stage is a neat level, so I'm not surprised that it won. Interestingly, there was a 3-way tie for third place here.

I'm actually surprised EotM proved that popular, given it was such a strange level. Still, the three winners here all won by a fairly clear margin (the 4th place only had 3 votes). It's a shame that the #2 level is no longer on J2O.

Only two winners here (noting else in this category got more than one vote. Both of these levels are actually old, but were only uploaded to J2O in 2010. Of the two, Sernik Test is newer.

SC2 got the largest number of votes out of anything this year, and it's no wonder why. While the levels themselves are old, many of them are in newer versions, and most had never been uploaded to J2O except in other packs (eg AB packs). They are some of the best battle levels that have been made. Frog Force came in a respectable 2nd place.

Dreamscape won by a landslide, and quite fairly. The second place winner was also by Blackraptor, and is just as high quality as the first (I suspect Dreamscape won because it is a full pack, rather than a standalone). The third place entry is also very good, but unfortunately it was deleted from j2o, and you won't be able to download it any more. This may be why it only received two votes.

All three were clear winners here (4th place got 2 votes), and all of them were high quality tilesets. It's good to see that even in 2010 people were making good tilesets.

Last year I came in first and Snooze came in second; this year it was the other way around. Overall Snooze deserves it for the quality levels he made, and while many of them aren't available on J2O, if you want to play them there are people who can send the levels to you. Blackraptor came in a clear third for his quality single player levels. No one else got more than one vote.

A good year overall. Let's hope 2011 is just as good. If I have to pick one category I was impressed by the most, it has to be single player (although for those of you who know me, you probably aren't surprised).

Congrats to everyone who was nominated. Dreamscape was kind of a swansong of mine, so i'm happy it won something :P

I haven't really played much this year, but from what I've seen of Snz's recent levels has been impressive, so I think he definately deserved the win. Good luck to all next year.

FawFuL: Looking forward, just remember that we (hopefully) encourage jcsers to try their best and make truly impressive works. I knew I'd be competing against snz if I brought up an already deleted upload (Dream Stage), but it was such a neat piece of work and I had a lot of respect for it. Call it stupid, think what you want, but I'm happy with the outcome. There's friendly competiton from time to time, but that's healthy.

Not really planning to make anything for jj2 anymore, but if I do, then I will make tilesets, especially when they are made specifically for the level.

Personally, I'm kinda hoping that some jcsers will make something truly wowing, and I know some of you can do it, c'mon show!

I don't think that a newcomer like me should write a news post about one of the most important happenings of every year. A veteran should do the honors.

Edit2: Done. Someone fix the source though, as textile seems to fail there. Hell, if there is no preview option, at least let one edit it.
