Impressive. You're pretty impressive actually, particularly the useful skill I see the learning by ear. That will become invaluable as you progress musically.

Thanks a lot, plunK. Right now my current project is writing an EP-length piano album titled Finality. Currently I'm trying to work my way through some of the more bizarre aspects of songwriting, like writing something in 7/8 or otherwise uncommon times. It's really going to be sort of an experimental album, as all I've written before this has been in boring ol' 4/4. The album itself will follow a progression of sorts, starting from relatively peaceful, going to somewhat turbulent in the middle then ending on sad notes.

Being a fellow composer, time signature creativity is cool, but not always the best. I've tried writing stuff in crazy signatures (the only one that worked was 27/8) but most of the time its more frustrating than it needs to be and i find myself in 4/4, which isnt necissarily bad.
Sean

I never really said 4/4 was bad, but putting something new into your songs really does make someone bring their head up and say, "Hey, this is interesting." Working at doing something out of the ordinary pays off in the end. Also, interesting note: 7/8 somehow feels easier to work with than 3/4 :7

3/4..... yeah 7/8 I find easier but overall there are far less good songs written in it, as you need just the right accents to avoid awkwardness. This song I think does a decent job of that in the 7/8 chorus part:

I've always thought Coldplay did 7/8 well, like in Death and All His Friends, and Glass of Water. There's also Robert Blaker, who wrote ETERNAL SUFFERING entirely in 7/8. Sorry for the lack of links, I'm using a phone.

I listen to music almost constantly, so I actually already know the songs you mean. I just threw in a link so that It would seem more friendly. And Ill get on posting some of my stuff on the Master thread soon

Here's a rough and heavily WIP 30-second sample off a song I plan to enter into Homestuck's music contest. Completely original. Planned saxophone and electric guitars, the whole shebang.
I should get around to uploading some non-HS content some time.
If due to a system fart the widget fails to load, just follow this link (http://soundcloud.com/technicolorluminarium/hsvriskawip1).

As I work more for a place in the album, the song gets better and better. Not quite there yet, though.

Funny you should work on a Vriska track, 'cause I'm making a Terezi one. :D Lookin' good so far

Well it's still in a bare writing state so it doesn't sound very pro... Most of the samples are temporary, I'm using Modplug because it's the easiest to use when it comes to complicated time signatures.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38637435/derp/Terezi.s3m
And here are the lyrics I have so far:
<i>I've seen all kinds of the end
I've seen with the eyes unseeing
I've been at every turn and bend
Been sewing up what you've been tearing
My mind splinters with the lines of time
My life lingers at the edge of crime
My truth bends according to my will
My heart commands the treachery be killed
I'm the judge and I'm the hangman
I'm waging the just and the wrong
I'm the dragon breath, insecticide
Keep smelling your track and playing along
My mind splinters with the lines of time
My life lingers at the edge of crime
My truth bends according to my will
My heart commands the treachery be killed</i>

Yet another WIP shot. It's much longer than the previous one and is sweet, if I do say so myself.

So how's your Homestuck song coming along? Mine's shaping up now, just need to fix a few parts and finish the lyrics and then I can record stuff and mix it. But as if it weren't enough, I also started working on a pretty cool song for Equius (who happens to be my Zodiac sign) so I have double the work to do.

Fairly decently, but I went on a week holiday and had to forgo my tools during that period. I have a lot to catch up on, and I'm not sure if I can send in a John entry by then as well.

I felt like I should post something up here because I haven't in a while. This was a quick experiment I did in gating (cutting out regular pieces of the audio). Everything was improvised except for the gated part of it.
Ignore the strings at the end. I stuck that in for filler.

Something (http://soundcloud.com/technicolorluminarium/abandoned-game-theme) I scrapped for that little Hey coders! (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?t=19244) thing we had going on here. I would have made it for the main menu, but eventually I decided it wouldn't fit in any conceivable stage of the game, so it's tossed. I might revisit it next time.

Jun 28, 2012, 06:35 PM
Where did you get the string samples?
Sean
Jun 29, 2012, 04:31 AM
They came prepackaged with my copy of Logic Studio. If the strings sound a little different to you, it might be because I used three string tracks for the arpeggios, each slightly different from the other, one panned halfway to the left, one halfway to the right, and one in the center.

Remixes :<b></b>DDD <s>I'm working on one for Homestuck's Flare because Flare is awesome and that's that.
Take your pick, YouTube or Soundcloud.
As this is a WIP, I'd love some input as well, thanks in advance.</s>
EDIT: It is now done.

I am currently in the process of making an ambient blues piece (http://soundcloud.com/technicolorluminarium/ambient-blues-wip)! I also would love any comments and criticism you guys are able to offer, so that hopefully the finished product is as polished as possible.

Very atmospheric and nice to listen.
Blues is one of my favorited music genres...
As usual when I listen blues track - In my eyes appears a picture of nightlight city... :P
Like the guitar at 4th minute...
All in all the melody is pretty solid.
I wish I could give a fair review, but I'm just a freelance-composer so I don't know
what's standart properties a blues track should have...
BTW, I hope you'll finish it and It will be in full beauty. Looking forward for your new works!

hi guys, i am looking for the jazz 2 soundtrack in xm format. i only found a few tracks but i need the laboratory level to load it in a tracker. i cant post a new thread so im asking here. sorry about it. can somebody provide me a download link?
DoubleGJ
Sep 12, 2012, 03:07 PM
why would you need xm specifically? I do have all of the songs in their original tracker format and none, and I mean NONE of them is xm. it's all either s3m or it
btw yes this is offtopic and I'm only replying to this here because I'm in my don't-really-care mode but if anyone can move these two posts then that would be great

Weren't they in .j2b?
Jgke
Sep 12, 2012, 10:24 PM
You can use Modplug (http://www.modplug.com/) to play .j2b's.
Sean
Sep 12, 2012, 10:53 PM
Anyway yeah with what Jake said, you can always just get ModPlug and copy the .j2b files directly from your Jazz 2 folder.

I want them in a format that a tracker can open. thanks
Sean
Sep 13, 2012, 05:25 PM
????
ModPlug is a tracker, and .j2b's can be opened by them. Not sure what else you'd want.
Small note though, ModPlug is now called OpenMPT.

As the Art Forum gets more crowded with posts of music, I post another one of my own because I don't know.

Completion of the remix I not so subtly teased a month ago. Track art was done by our very own Obi1mcd!

How are you getting that fantastic piano sound?
P.S I'm loving these tunes.
Also, may I drop some songs in here, or should I make a new thread for that?
Piano I wrote a while back. (http://bananarealm.bandcamp.com/track/sunset)starts slow but has a nice build up
Ambient Stuff (http://bananarealm.bandcamp.com/track/premonition)
Sean
Apr 9, 2013, 11:46 PM
It's all in the reverb. The decay time is something like 14 seconds. There's also a slight echo I put in, though I tried to keep it subtle. The piano sample itself is nothing special, a Yamaha piano prepackaged with Logic.
Feel free to drop as much as you want in this thread, though if you had your own thread it'd be easier to follow what you're doing.

I didn't actually mention this before, more like sneaked it into the original post, but I have been working on a remix of Wind (http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/track/wind) for slightly more than a month now. It's still a work in progress, but I'm quite happy with how it's turning out.
Wind (Zephyr mix) WIP (http://www.soundcloud.com/technicolorluminarium/wind-remix-wip-2)
While progress on it has been excruciatingly slow, I can't say it hasn't been worth it. This is my most complex work in terms of production yet, and it takes a ton of time just to get everything to sound the way I want it to.

Hey, it's been ages since I posted something here, but I had my laptop stolen a couple months ago and just started rebuilding my collection of work. While I redo all my old works, here's a little loop (https://soundcloud.com/technicolorluminarium/3itm-loop) I made for a remix of Three in the Morning (http://homestuck.bandcamp.com/track/three-in-the-morning). Very minimalistic at the moment, let's see where it goes from here.

I did a thing.
https://soundcloud.com/technicolorluminarium/random-improv-piano
I removed and cleaned up lots of the most noticeable mistakes while I was playing such as missed notes or a failed pedal hold
Don't worry, no one notices ANY mistakes when anyone plays piano. People just notice when the piano's out of tune :P
