<strike>I'd like it to not use MP3 Music, because it does both of the following things:
1. Anyone without JJ2+ won't be able to play(For example: Me, people who do play Jazz, but don't go on any websites, or other people like me who have the LK Avalon version of TSF).
2.MP3s are not as good quality as most other formats, it's like the JPEG of Music Files.</strike>
<strike> and 3. Most music in levels are not MP3s, so there isn't much point in converting any music or re-exporting it or anything.
Apart from that, I just hope that old community members like Xion who have disappeared from the community come back, even if it's only for a few days, or indeed 1 day.</strike>:)
EDIT: I've found a way to get around this, so please ignore this post.

2. It's not as good quality as other formats. It's like the JPG of Music files.
Other points aside, you do realize how many tracker songs have ridiculously low quality samples? Among them many well-respected classics.

I'd like Jailbreak to be included. It works best with large numbers of players and has a lot of bash-worthy levels. Other JJ2+ gamemodes are worth considering too, of course (I think the last bash had Domination?), but this one seems like a particularly good choice.

Has anyone actually tested this statement, as in, played it in an MP server over a decent period of time? Because in my experience in SP and as an unjoinable host, the generating rotating rocks <em>never go away</em>, and I have no idea how that interacts with a public server.

I didn't forget that my pack existed or anything, but I was more motivated by the nature of the gamemode itself - there are plenty of great Jailbreak levels by other people. Check out BlurredD's pack (doesn't seem to be on J2O yet, but the filenames are JB[whatever]) and the many single levels.
Also, if you didn't notice, I did make that post before the pack was featured (and honestly I wasn't expecting it to be).

Well, bash 14 looks really bright so far. I've tried to get FawFul to organize bash, but he doesn't seem like the most reliable person afaik. Whichever the case, who's up for organizing bash 14? - If no one takes it up, then I'll have to organize bash again.

Feb 22, 2012, 12:58 PM
Sorry for the late response, Yeah FS did contact me and i was unsure at first because i'm often busy with different things, but then i accepted later on. I maybe not look like very reliable because i have weeks where i have a lot of time and weeks where i don't. (at this moment, i am in one of those weeks i am very busy). On the other hand i have a week vacation next week so i'll be having plenty of time then.
I'm not sure if i should organise it, not that I think i can't do it, or can't make it in time, but that people should expect and be aware I am definitly not always there. I have no idea what the commnunity expects from the organiser, so. As said, i'll have weeks i could work on this a lot and weeks where i can't do anything at all. I'm not sure if it's unreliable, but more like barely flexible. On the other hand, i really don't want to miss this oppurtunity.

Ok so let's get this stuff started
I contacted FS again and we decided I will organise it (with some help by FS) this year. Since there hasn't been any objections on this we think it's fine.
So what will this mean?
This means that I respectfully want to ask anyone to come up with some levels for bash 14. This is your moment to advice levels for the bash in this thread. That includes, in case you want to, giving levels made by yourself. This also means that you still have time before the deadline of 9 April (when the anniversary actually is) to make levels and give them here. In the meantime till 9 April, I will be updating a list of Battle and CTF. (try to finish your levels before 6 April though, otherwise you risk there is not enough time left or bash already started in the weekend)
No list before the very last list (probably given of Battle/Ctf is definitive. This means that there can still be levels scrapped and added in the meantime, but it should give an idea of what the list overall should look like.
Also keep in mind that the bash should have an okay quality, this maybe sounds like a harsh rule for a game anniversary, but it has always been this way that having a level in the bash is some sort of achievement. Of course, this will also depend on the amount of (good) levels.
But overall, High quality levels have more chance of staying in the list than low quality levels when it's full. To make things clear: The pack is not about everyone having atleast one or more level in.
When there is a bunch of levels given i will try to make an early list up as soon as possible. Good luck to everyone that still feels like JCSin', remember there is still more than a month to work on a level :P.
I forgot to mention that levels should be on the internet (preferably j2o) in order to get in the bash

I think, if you read further up this thread, you'll find that a great many people have already started submitting potential candidates for the bash, so why not start with some of those?
In any event, I will capitalize on the opportunity and nominate Fawful's Frontier Falls (http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/6732/frontier-falls) and ALEX4u's Lost Flag (http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/6556/lost-flag) for the bash. Both are good CTFs, and both should be here.

Not necessarily levels from this point are the only candidates. It's not really nominating though from this point on, it's more to give an idea of what levels i might forget if people would not help reminding me to it. But yeah, it also gives an idea of what people would like to see in the bash.

Maybe not clear to everyone but the bash should mainly consist of levels over the past year. There will eventually be some classics in the bash aside from that, but i want to avoid using levels from other years. (Especially not intercity grudge match because it was in the bash before). GOLD! didn't get into the Bash because I already had enough levels in the Bash when I organized it, but it's still fairly new to some people and thus it could be considered to put that in too.

I'd like it to not use MP3 Music, because it does both of the following things:
1. Anyone without JJ2+ won't be able to play(For example: Me, people who do play Jazz, but don't go on any websites, or other people like me who have the LK Avalon version of TSF).
2. It's not as good quality as other formats. It's like the JPG of Music files.
and 3. Most music in levels are not MP3s, so there isn't much point in converting any music or re-exporting it or anything.
Apart from that, I just hope that old community members like Xion who have disappeared from the community come back, even if it's only for a few days, or indeed 1 day. :)
1. I recall you having 1.23, just use that with plus instead, even that is better than using LK avalon. It's likely the levels will be 1.23 compatible. Now if I knew you weren't all "Oh but downloading it is illegal!" I would tell you just to download the real TSF because I belive it's okay to download abandonware, as the people aren't making money off it anymore so I don't see why they'd care. I honestly don't give a fly if I get banned for saying that because I barely post here anyways.
2. Not necessarily true. There are varying qualities of MP3s and there are a lot of great high quality ones out there, but it's really the size of the file that's the problem. They are significantly larger than tracker modules, and take quite a while to download directly from a server, which is my concern with them. Also like what DoubleGJ said, there are a lot of tracker modules which use low quality samples.
3. Ok this point is just ridiculous. Most people don't convert already smaller music pieces to MP3s for JJ2 levels. This is not the reason why people use MP3s into levels, they use it because it's the only music format that the song/tune/whatever it's in. Or in another case it can be converted to ogg (another plus only format), which can be slightly smaller but it usually doesn't make a huge difference. Also, so what if most levels aren't MP3s? While I try to avoid using them in MP for size reasons your statement is like saying "Oh so-and-so isn't used much so we shouldn't use it.".
TL;dr: Do your research.
cooba
Mar 2, 2012, 12:04 PM
1. You'll still be able to play a level with mp3 music without plus IIRC, you just won't be able to play the music.Regular, unpatched JJ2 will crash when trying to load the track.<!--TL;dr: Do your research.-->

Mar 3, 2012, 08:44 AM
It appears at least one person doesn't know this so here goes: JJ2 can't crash by loading an MP3 music file (or whatever other format) if that file isn't there to load. So you can play a level that uses song.mp3 in unpatched JJ2 as long as your JJ2 folder doesn't contain song.mp3.

What do you guys think of having some sort of pre-bash? - That is, hosting all of the obtainable bash packs in order from earliest to latest.
This sounds like it'd be pretty awesome!

I am hosting all old bashlevels that i could find. I have got all tilesets, but not all music.

That's cool, but when the Bash comes, do not host two separate servers!

Man, one of these years I will have something done for Bash.
Maybe next year, 15 is a nice number.

Congratulations to all the levels that made it into the Bash! They're all good, and I know everyone'll have some serious fun on them. :)
Maybe next time, my level will be lucky enough to make it into the Bash.

Good news! The Bash made it onto <a href="http://epicgames.com/community/2012/04/jazz-jackrabbit-2-anniversary-bash/">Epic's community blog</a> and also their <a href="https://www.facebook.com/epicgamesinc/posts/280222432057555">Facebook page</a> and <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/EpicGames/status/188344917431549952">twitter feed</a>!

I hope the same, 'cause they never do :(
Still, it's a great Bash!

Nothing from the SS3 contest is in the bash though, (that's why no heat shrine either). the size of these levels are simply too small and chaotic for a bash event.
Anyway, i think bash is going great. Yesterday there were a lot of people in the server. Keep it up :).

Sure, but if I make a serious level this year get it in the next Bash!

Something's wrong... the server seems to have switched to the CTF levels, even though we're still about 18 hours away from the halfway point.

Bash didn't have many people period. Most of the times I checked there were like three or four people in there, while Zeal Duels or whatever had around ten. Very dissapointing, and not much fun, I might add.

The list was very good and DJazz's server was good but the attendance was terrible. If this continues we may as well stop doing Bashes altogether.

Maybe not many people came because it was around Easter Time. I hope next years bash isn't as empty, and *hopefully* I'll be able to make some levels for it.

I also think easter time was the problem. I really wanted to attend the bash but my weekend was way too busy...

I would have loved to join the bash this year. Unfortunately I was away from home for the week.

I had a lot of easter family visits during the weekend, which only allowed me to play in a few short sessions during the Bash. Nevertheless it was fun, and nice to see Flak posting about it on Epic's blog. Never thought to see that happen! ;)

I always forget why I crave playing JJ2 at this time of year lol. How'd the bash go everyone? Been a while since I played, any oldies still left on here?

I love DJazz's video, how it was a neck-and-neck battle w/Violet CLM all the way up to the last roast. Beautiful level, too.
Hopefully, I'll be playing in the bash too next year, as long as it doesn't fall on Easter again (which is a large reason why I didn't participate this year). We'll see.

Also KILLERRABBIT, dear goodness me. Long long time! I'm sure I have a room in your name in some hotel or other somewhere.

Aw man, those hotels. Good times, good times lol. Do hotel levels still exist? o0'
Oh what about those stupidly addicting puzzle games? I find I always want to play JJ2 in April and I'm never consciously aware why until it hits me, and then im like... oh.... DUUH ><. I can't believe I missed out on another Bash! GRR!!! Oh and FYI, the new JJ2+ that downloads FREAKING MUSIC FOR YOU is FREAKING AWESOME!!! =3
