View Full Version : Just a thought. How many hours have you played JJ2?

Some games you play for a ridiculously time and you look back and you're like damn, that was an enormous waste of my time. I could've spent those 100 hours I played Skyrim studying more.

How many hours of JJ2, and of JCS do you think you've played? I can't even begin to estimate how many hundreds of hours I've spent in JCS and playing JJ2... It could very well be over 1,000 in JCS... but it's really hard to estimate.

But whatever it is, please share.

I estimate close to a thousand hours in JJ2 spread out over my two and a half years in the community, but I definitely don't think it was an enormous waste of my time :P It probably pales in comparison to the oldies' around here, but for me it's a big achievement.

It's hard to estimate gaming hours for a game I started playing since '98. I know it easely surpasses 1000 hours. I started online play and minor community activity around 2003/2004 or so, counting several 100's of those hours in community activity. I never got any serious effort out of JCS yet, but used up at least 50-100 hours learning the program and making sucky levels during the past years.

I honestly have no idea, since like Slaz I've been playing since '98 (or maybe it was '99). I don't regret any of it though.

Meh, I've played a lot of games in my life (easily more than 1000 hours), but I had fun doing it, so I absolutely wouldn't consider it a waste of time.

No idea how much I spent playing JJ2, specifically. It's a lot, though.

I don't think a waste of time was really the right phrase there. More like, I could have spent that time doing something else. But I don't think my 14 or 15 years of playing and being part of the community were really a waste of time. But I'd say I would have easily have played in the 10,000s of hours.

Now that I think about it maybe it was two thousand hours...

Given that I started in the late 2000 and still do from time to time, it has to be quite a few...

I'm terrible at estimating numbers though

Is it sad that the reason I can easily estimate how much I've played JJ2 is that I can compare it to the time I've spent playing other games?

I don't think I've gone over 40-50h in the real game, although JCS will be much more probably

iconguy- do you mean you've played other games for that amount of time as well?

I think I could possibly have played Doom for a comparable amount of hours as JJ2 if you count Doom 2 / TNT / Plutonia as well, but that's about it. I'd say maybe Quake 3 Arena in third place. I must have an incredible amount of hours between all the Keen games, but that's 6 games combined... In the long run games don't really hold my attention for really long. I only really replay DOS games consistently...

I also miss replayability in most new games. Older games are generally more fast-paced and keep your mind focused on the gameplay, allowing for what could be endless play (well, with some healthy time inbetween haha). JJ2 has this aspect, and includes online play and customization. IT'S AN ENDLESS GAME. lol

Other than that, I'm currently replaying some DOS games like the old Duke Nukem sidescroller. And got a crush with Danmaku shooters and Minecraft. :p

So let's make a calculating then. I play this game since about 2000 and lets say I played 2 hours per day on avarage during those 12 years. Sure I played much more at days but sometimes I wouldn't touch the game for months too.
The amount of days in 12 years: 12 * 365 = 4380
4380 * 2 = 8760 hours aka exactly 365 days aka 1 year aka 52 aka 525600 minutes aka 3153600 seconds...

I sleep 8 hours per day, so that allows 20 hours per day for JJ2. I played JJ2 for 20 years, since 1992. Multiply 20 hours by 20 days per week, 20 weeks per month, 20 months per year and 20 clones of me. 3,200,000 hours.

Well, at least we've established a point here. JJ2 has the most ridiculously high replay value of almost all our games.

From when I was 9 to when I was 13, my life consisted of this game. I played so many hours and I remember when the server list crashed. I remember finding the registry fix online. Memories of this game really take me back. By the way http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WjM9mFy22ks

I love this music :)

I believe I've spent at least half as much time as Vegito on this game, most of it consisting of playing, and a little bit of JCS. And there are still enough gamemodes I haven't tried, or levels worth playing that I haven't played yet. So I'd say JJ2 is quite an amazing game :)
