I have a question regarding Hocus Pocus graphics and music. Yes, I know that this is a Jazz Jackrabbit forum but I've seen on J2O a wonderful conversion of Hocus Pocus tilesets and levels with music into JJ2 (I think it was made by VioletCLM, no wonders, since I noticed that on everything that has to do with word "convertion" this guy rocks!).

How can I get graphics and music from all 4 episodes of Hocus Pocus? I'm not good at programming so please don't tell me that I can rip them using some crazy coding languages... I just wonder if there are any availible on the net or maybe someone has it on his computer (or just someone can do it for me because I'm asking nicely)? Since the first episode was ripped by VioletCLM, then it should be possible to get graphics and music from the other episodes, right?

I'm interested in everything, mostly:
- tilesets (including full backgrounds, which are truly beautiful in Hocus Pocus game)
- enemies graphics (if they would be animated that would be more than awesome!)
- music files

Any hopes? Or maybe there is actually the whole sequence done on J2O and I don't know anything about it? :O

I think these (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?p=127138#post127138) posts (http://www.jazz2online.com/jcf/showthread.php?p=129364#post129364) may be quite enlightening.

How? The information OP is asking for isn't there. It just says Apogee isn't okay with Violet making a JJ2 episode with ripped Hocus Pocus graphics. How is that enlightening?

A quick google search was kind of disappointing, doesn't seem to be a site with the graphics available. Maybe Violet does in fact know a way of ripping the graphics from the game files?

It's enlightening because it points out that 3DRealms isn't okay with this kind of thing, as pointed out by this part of the second post I linked to:
However, Hocus Pocus Shattered Worlds remains illegal, as does creating any tilesets using tiles from episodes 2-4 of Hocus Pocus
Although, I can't stop anyone from ignoring the fact that 3DRealms does not like this, and I won't attempt to. I'd just like to make sure that all the relevant facts are known.

I don't know, but reading the OP's question I get the feeling that he wants the game's resources for... something, not necessarily a tileset. If he owns the games there's nothing wrong with extracting the resources from them.

Now if he makes a tileset out of them and puts it on J2O, it might be a different matter... but that's not the issue at hand.

Hmm... I guess I misunderstood the OP previously(Most likely due to this thread being in the JCS section).
Anyway, the best thing to do for information on this kind of thing is to ask Violet. And, since he's on fairly frequently, I advise waiting for him to see this Thread.

<a href="http://www.shikadi.net/moddingwiki/Hocus_Pocus">shikadi.net</a> has not only complete documentation of all the known file format details, but also links to a couple programs for reading those files into generally usable image formats (among many other functions). If neither of those work, you could also try <a href="http://www.2shared.com/file/8Ppu_jTF/HCS_Beta.html">my old editor</a>, but I know Wombat was able to do at least tilesets and backgrounds, and I imagine Camoto can do sprites too, though I haven't checked that personally.

Sick! Wombat really worked for me. Few seconds and I had backgrounds, tilesets and music. Thank you very much!

The only thing is missing are enemies (just the graphics). Do you have a clue how can I get them?
Speaking of enemies, is there also a way to get enemies animations / graphics from JJ1?

PS: I'm not planning to upload anything on J2O, I just want to play a little bit with graphics from Hocus Pocus. I do have a full registered version so I what can possibly be wrong about that?

As I said, Wombat was last updated before the sprite format was discovered; try Camoto. For JJ1, use <a href="http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/5471/jj1mod-beta/">JJ1MOD</a> or <a href="http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/5147/jazz-graphics-pack/">Jazz Graphics Pack</a>.

I don't have Linux. And I have no idea how to use Jazz Graphics Pack... I put all the extractors into my JJ1 folder and it did extract some files but they are broken or something. I can't open them.

They're not linux programs, so you needn't worry about that. Without more details about what you're trying to do, I don't think anyone can really help you; right now you're saying that you took some unspecified action and produced some unspecified files that you think are wrong in some unspecified way, but you're not saying the steps you took to produce those files, nor producing those files for anyone to look at. We just don't know what went wrong.
