I'll admit, I've never played JJ1, though seen a lot of footage of it. The tiny resolution combined with the high speed makes it look frustrating. I'm not fond of trial and error.

I kinda prefer the soundtrack, however it does have its share of boring tracks.

Asides from that, JJ2 brought features that kept the community going. In specific, JCS and online play. JJ1 does have its own editors, though they are unofficial, which makes those who played the game less likely to know about it.

JJ1 was more fun for me, maybe because I was younger. I played JJ2 more since then though. Anyway I would still occasionally play JJ1 without JJ2 and I would've never played JJ2 without JJ1, so I'm voting for JJ1.

I also feel like that Treylina XD

and.. I always confused about the controls..
as we know, JJ2 have a specific key for rush(speed run,dash,rush.. whatever..)
but JJ1.. nah too hard to control it(I can't calculate the speed and jump distance while he start to moving!..)

beside, I think JJ1 is too focus on to the characters(as treylina says.. 'tiny resolution').. I couldn't see what is on the foward, so if I run fast, and the enemy is on the front.. crash..(maybe almost anyone have ever may crashed like me.)

another badness is.. getting the ammo..
why should I shooting the ammo ball(?) to get the ammo? (of course, there is another ammo type exist which much more smaller and easier to get it :p)

aaaand.. why all bosses are too weak or too easy? or RF missile is freakishly strong weapon? even it seems like a fool joke.(that's what I always want to know about it XP)

Ah, those things are very good.

almost unlimited ammo(for JJ2, each ammo's maximum is 99.), and blaster's burst speed is according to personal capacity.(although, it is available in JJ2, but JJ1 can shooting much faster.)

and my opinion, slow-motion 't' key also.. awesome..

P.S.
Nice avatar Treylina :D

JJ1, always. Sure, JJ2 is great, but if I have to choose one, I'll always pick JJ1.
Also, as Treylina said, that music is ... Epic.

Incidentally, does anyone have a list of which planets appear in which episodes in which order in JJ1?

JJ1 Had a better single player experience in my opinion. Plus JJ2's physics are awkward.

Yeah, JJ2 SP is ridiculously easy. For me what makes JJ2 interesting, is the user created content and mods. Otherwise I would've dismissed this game.

I've been writing up a review of JJ2 in a RTF. I'd rather put it up on a personal website rather than a forum though. Because the current reviews of JJ2 are painfully one dimensional.

I like some of the wierd physics though. Quirkiness can make it stand out.

The SP in JJ1 is much more fun than SP in JJ2. The only disadvantage is the resolution, and graphics aren't as high quality as in 16-bit JJ2. But Jazz has more attitude in JJ1, harder levels and more fun layouts. However Spaz and Lori in JJ2 are also an advantage for JJ2.

I'm... not sure! JJ1 is more challenging but JJ2, even with all the Dummied Out stuff, feels more polished and refined. I guess many people in this topic got it right, JJ1 has a much better singleplayer experience, the way you take it out of the box, install and play right away, but JJ2 laid out a much better foundation for pushing it to the limit with user content. What you could assume is, JJ1 is definitely the better option when you don't have an Internet connection, but in 2014, you'd have to admit that's a moot point.

and in the end, there's no doubt that JJ2+ is the superior choice over both
