We all know how stagnant the community is at the moment, but what I thought may temporarily help is host some timed servers.

I'll be hosting the Survivor level pack with the mutator. Plus is required. You don't have to play (you can spectate instead if you want), but it would be nice if you did.

The Event - if you can call it one, will start on 7:15pm (UTC/GMT) the 5th of December, Saturday. It'll probably end when the levellist is over, but I may extend it if other players wish me to do so (or if it goes too quick).

If you don't like the date, I can negotiate. I hope to get at least six players interested.

"Buuut it's actually called survivor!" Whatever, get together sounds nicer with Ground Force.

EDIT: Strawpoll time again. Vote whether if you're interested or not:

Yeah, I forgot again that you can only make a poll when you start a thread. Bleh.

I've never played Ground Force(Or Survivor. Whatever it's called), and I'll probably be eating, watching Doctor Who, then going to sleep from that time, but if the server's still running after Doctor Who, or is able to start any earlier, I might play for a little while.

It's a simple gamemode. You get placed into a big arena of destructable scenery, and have to make sure you don't fall in the pit.

What time does the program start? Maybe I'll do the event on Friday or Sunday instead.

As for hosting, well, if it gets too laggy, I'll move it to another server. It's just that I think camel refuses to load some levels (or maybe not, I have fuzzy memory regarding this.).

I won't be around much (or at all) until December 12th :(. I like the initiative, though. Keep those events coming!

TBH, I think saturday is probably best for most people, and it's possible the show will start late enough for me to be able to join you guys for a little while before(I forget exactly when it starts, but it should be around 7:30, maybe 8. In previous years, it used to air 6/6:30).

Besides, I'm only one person; I'm sure more people will be interested.

(Also, I agree with Borgia, it's nice to see all these events happening :) )

I have exams going on and it's gonna end in December 12 aswell. Yeah, I like to see more events after this too.

I'll try to be there if no real-life matters hinder me that evening.

Though I remember last time we played Survivor, the mutator seemed to have a mind of it's own. :p

That's mostly because some of the levels I used weren't made with the mutator in mind. That won't happen this time.

Update time!

Shaker has willingly let me host the "event" on his server. It'll be conveniently named Ground Force GT or something. So no need to worry about lag. The time and date is still the same as before. I estimate it'll last an hour or so - depends how many players I get.

Will I be hosting another type of these things? Maybe. But I need a time when you guys are less busy, so I don't end up wasting my time either.

And so it happened! It was a moderate success, I got about 15 players at max (if you include me). But that's probably for the better, it was already quite chaotic.

Some mishaps include shells not dropping in two levels, and Shaker forgetting to add survivor26 to 30 until later on.

I'd actually say it was quite a successful event. 10-15 players and it was fun :)

Looks like you guys had fun.

I played for about 45 minutes, and to me the success rate was better than expected. I saw enough players come and go who aren't necessarily active atm.

Here are 2 random screenshots taken during the action:

Ah yes, the earlier half of the event is missing from the video because it was stored in a full hard drive.

Why do people still play in 640x480 res?

Why do people still play in 640x480 res?

1. They don't acknowledge 800x600 exists
or 2. They feel more comfortable playing that way.
or 3. For aesthetic reasons - some levels don't look right in 800x600.

I think Slaz is a little behind on things.

I use the F3 button for that :c

we have finally made JJ2's resolution large enough that F3 is a moderately useful feature
hallelujah

Point 2 it is.

I'm not intending to stay behind on things, but neither do I blindly adopt any new JJ2+ feature as if it were my favorite bottle of beer. :7

It's not that I always play 640x480 nowadays. In fact, not too long ago I played through most of Devres in 800x600 for the sake of it, until some cutscenes and 'fake gravity' parts were visually broken really bad.
