Perhaps you weren't so happy with the way world events played out in 2016, or it could've been the best year of your life for other reasons. Regardless, as we look to the future we now have the chance to reflect on the last 365 days. It's the annual event that all JCSers look forward to!

Due to the lower amount of content uploaded to J2O this year compared with the previous, I've decided to be efficient and skip the nomination stage. However, if you think I've overlooked something noteworthy, feel free to notify me and I'll consider adding it.

You must read the rules before voting. They are as follows:

1) In the past you were only allowed to vote for one nomination per level. However, in order to allow more levels to get the chance to be appreciated this time around, you are now also allowed, but not obligated to vote for your second choice, which has half the weighting of your main vote.

2) You are not limited to voting within the nominations, but you are advised to at least check these levels if you haven't already, in order to make your vote fair. Also, please provide a download link to these levels - unreleased/unfinished levels cannot be voted for.

3) Votes are to be kept private. This is to raise the tension, and also to prevent bandwagoning. In order to vote, post your votes here and then delete the post after you have submitted it, and a moderator will undelete it after the deadline. Alternatively, if you prefer, you are allowed to PM them to Stijn, but bare in mind that your choices will be announced in public once the voting stage is over. Any votes left public will be forcibly deleted by moderation, and your vote may not count.

4) Voting closes on 15th January at 23:59 GMT+1. Votes made promptly after this deadline may still be counted but as soon as a moderator undeletes the posts, any subsequent votes will be ignored.

Good luck to you all!

Best CTF of 2016: Scrapyard by PurpleJazz. Second place goes to The Astrolabe by Ragnarok. Third but irrelevant place goes to Hall of the Mountain King by CJ. That doesn't mean the other nominees suck in my opinion, but I didn't think they are as solid as the aforementioned nominees.

...and the results are in!

Best Battle Level of 2016

http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_gold_3.png Forest Swamp - FireSworD (4)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_silver_1.png Zes - DarkSonic (3)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_bronze_2.png Twin Stalactites - FireSworD (1.5)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_bronze_2.png Trademark II - Snooze (1.5)

It was a hard-fought award, and in my opinion there were many potential candidates for first place. However, FireSworD has once again demonstrated that despite being around for over a decade and a half, he still has that special something which allows him to create memorable uploads - even taking a double podium finish this time. Forest Swamp is certainly impressive visually and it will make a fantastic addition to your Battle levellist.

Best CTF Level of 2016

http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_gold_3.png Scrapyard - PurpleJazz (5.5)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_silver_1.png The Astrolabe - Ragnarok (3.5)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_bronze_2.png Hall of the Mountain King - Superjazz (3)

I did honestly not expect to win this award, but I feel honoured that my level was chosen nonetheless. Props to the runners up, which are both thoroughly enjoyable levels in their own right. All three of the winners are part of the JJnet ladder mappool, so if you ever plan on getting back into competitive play, you should try them all out!

Best SP Release of 2016

http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_gold_3.png A Generic Single Player Level II - Blackraptor (8)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_silver_1.png Forest Forgotten - Spaztic (2.5)
http://www.jazz2online.com/J2Ov2/media/icons/award_star_bronze_2.png Ürdüng Chronicles - FarkasUrdung (0.5)

A clear winner here. If you haven't played Blacky's Single Player behemoth yet, now would be the time to do so. Forest Forgotten takes a well-deserved second place and is also worth your time on a rainy day.

Best JCSer of 2016

This was another hotly contested accolade, and while perhaps there may have not been one clear stand out JCSer this year, Loon just pips ahead of the pack and takes the gold medal. Many congratulations to him, and to the runners up as well!

Overall, while 2016 was a relatively quiet year in the JCS scene, I remain optimistic about what may come in 2017. No doubt it will be interesting to explore the direction modern level design will go in the fifth year of AngelScript. I can say that was a pleasure to see such a comeback in the Single Player scene, and hopefully that's something that will continue to thrive into the future. Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work for keeping the JCS scene alive for nearly twenty years!

I'm glad that Loon won the best JCSer, with Blacky and I winning second place. I think Loon and Blacky are more deserving of best JCSer of 2016 than I am.

Forest Swamp has been updated recently, to alleviate the control aspect of the seeker power-up area. Please check it out.

Most of the other battle nominees are superb, and almost all of them deserve to win in my opinion, so no complaining! - Zes is one of, if not DS' best battle level in my opinion. Good job!

2016 was a very "Generic" year for jcs. :D

I think Trademark II and Twin Stalactites both caught 1.5 votes, or am I wrong?

2016 was indeed an interesting year with the multiplayer scene somewhat stagnating, but with some memorable MP releases nevertheless. Although the 2 surprise SP releases did it for me!

Why I can't hear music in A Generic Single Player Level II? There are no instructions in the readme of how to install it. It only requires the latest version of JJ2+, which I downloaded. There should be a generic installation instructions in each level/level pack. Especially for those who play Jazz from time to time (like a few times a year) and are not much into level editing, patching etc..

Off-topic: My JJ2 TSF folder is full of levels (hundreds), tilesets, music... What a mess. There definitely should be some kind of JJ2+ improvement regarding that.

Try this: http://www.filedropper.com/bass

SuperJazz tried an old version of bass.dll and it played neve.s3m fine, which is known not to work (aka not play at all) on newer versions.

Or:

[21:45:17] PurpleJazz: I fixed the problem by taking Neve.umx from my Unreal folder and saving it an s3m
[21:45:26] PurpleJazz: that then works

Sorry for the off-topicness, just wanted to help though I think the above post could've been posted somewhere more relevant.
