What is the Anniversary Bash?
The Anniversary Bash (commonly abbreviated to AB or just the Bash) is an annual event celebrating the full release of Jazz Jackrabbit 2 (April 9th, 1998). A dedicated server with a pre-prepared levellist is hosted for the duration of the nearest weekend to this date; normally for 4 days straight. The first Bash only had Capture the Flag levels, but Battle levels were included for the first time in AB2 in recognition of the gamemode's importance to the community. This server typically comprises the largest gathering of players in the JJ2 calendar, with several "oldies" usually making a guest appearance.

How does the Bash server work?
The Bash is divided into two aforementioned gamemodes; Battle and CTF, in which levellists are put together (typically comprising 15-25 levels each) and hosted continuously on loop. The gamemodes and their respective levellists are normally changed on alternate days, i.e. Battle for Day 1, CTF for Day 2, Battle for Day 3 etc. In more recent bashes, variations of the standard Battle/CTF gamemodes introduced by JJ2+ such as Team Battle or Death CTF have been used on repeat days in order to keep things fresh. This is a public server, so everyone is welcome (but please be civil!).

When is this year's Bash?
The provisional dates are Friday 5th to Monday 8th April. These may be subject to slight change and may possibly even be extended. If you want one (or more) of your new Battle or CTF level(s) to be considered for inclusion, you have until Wednesday 3rd April to submit it (or them) in order to ensure that there is sufficient time to properly test the Bash level packs. The lists will then be finalized and there will be no more further changes. I highly recommend you go and make something, as the Bash more than any other time of the year (outside of JDC) is a fantastic opportunity to give your levels the exposure they deserve!

Who is organizing the Bash this year?
Me, cooba and Ragnarok will be organising the bash lists this year. However, you are all encouraged to make suggestions for levels you'd like to see in this bash, and we'll take them all into consideration.

Good afternoon. After some deliberation, we've decided to get things going earlier than has been usual recently (but has been the norm many packs ago). Below you'll find "baseline" lists, composed by all three of us equally.

We made them by listing the most recent quality releases, and filling the gaps with most of the levels that have recieved JCS Awards in the past, and also a few miscellanous choices (call it organiser's privilege :7 ).

As far as we're concerned, these lists are already good to go, and if no suggestions are made in the next couple of weeks, these will be what gets hosted. If you're looking to get one of your levels on the list, or if you're interested in making a new one for the occassion, REPLY TO THIS THREAD so we can know when and how to make adjustments to the baseline list.

You may also ask why they're listed in an alphabetical order - we haven't decided on a specific order yet, mainly because there's still time for that, but also because we feel that making a specific order is pointless in the age of shuffled level lists.

I'll be finishing a brand new battle and polishing (along improving) Evoked for AB21. I -might- make a second battle too, but don't count on it.

Anyway, I've been hesitant to bring up my thoughts on the lists, but I'll try to keep it brief -cough-;

CTF:
Overall a good selection! Can't say I'm a big fan of just got carrot away, but it seems likely to be replaced anyways.

Battle:
Eeeeh. Not much author variety and a lot of maps that have been used a lot recently already. Can't say I like Palmcoke either, the flow is bumpy and it looks like getting roasts there is going to take a long time.

These are maps that have been in 2 consecutive bashes that I believe could do with a break: Frontier Falls, Rift, Outgrown, Horizon Approaching, The Impossible Metropolis.

There's plenty of other quality, less often used maps out there that can be used instead. Here are some suggestions for battle: Intercity Grudge Match/Grass Hill Citadel, Forsaken Hot Springs, Castle Bunnies for life, Pool party, Zes, That unnamed desert battle by Evilmike (a respectable classic that didn't make it to ab20), Elektrek Pyramid/Press Garden, Thermae, Urban Brawl, Vanilla Shores/Virtuosity/Stalactite Labratory/Robust ruins.

As for CTF, I believe the new maps will do the job replacing. Wouldn't mind seeing Complete Pipe dream make a reappearance though (could use the original palette this time, lol).

If Outgrown will be used, the pack organizer will need to download the latest version. I had to fix a few tile-bugs and access-ability issues etc. I updated the level a google-plex-plex times, but that is definitely the last.
