I know that this sort of thing is not new, and there have been many "ideas" in the past, but I want some feedback on this.
I've thought of a way we might be able to revive JJ2 to the state it was before the original Epic list server crash. It probably wouldn't work, and JJ2 might be dead anyways by the time anyone gets around to trying the plan. But here it is:
Phase 1
Create a website documenting some of the history of what happened, where to get the list server patch, where the main community site (J2O) and message board is; basic information allowing people to get back into the game who had problems before.
Phase 2
Create web banners for the site and get them displayed on high volume sites like search engines and download sites. That might cost money though. But there are some free banner "webrings" that could also be signed up for. When people click on the banner it will bring them to the site. The banner will say stuff like "wondering what happened to Jazz?" and have pictures of Jazz and Spaz on them.
Phase 3
When the jazzjackrabbit.com domain name expires (sometime in spring 2003; you can go to a whois site to find out exactly when) someone should buy it, and set up a new site. Also, set up the list server at list.jazzjackrabbit.com, so if anyone happens to just try JJ2 online play again, it will work. This phase depends on whether Epic renews the domain name or not though.
So there you have it. Do you think this will work? Do you think it won't? Reply with some feedback or other ideas.

Good idea!
Now if you need help with marketing jj2 I'm all over that. This something that I actually know and understand and don't talk BS about like I do with everything else hehe.
Anyways, if were going to be marketing jj2 to the ppl again it's going to be a diffcult task, but something I'm well educated on.
I just wrote my first marketing mid-term in college and got an excellent mark.
Here is my defention of marketing that you ppl may find interesting. (My teacher did, I got full marks)
"Marketing is define in my own words as; much more then just selling and advertising. Marketing is also creating a good or service that meets the needs of the target market and get that good or service to the consumer at the best possible price. Let's take a look at the car company Saturn to better explain my definition of marketing. I believe Saturn to be a great example of effective marketing. They saw a target market that wanted a good, not too expensive car, with great service. And that is what Saturn did. They give the car buying process a whole new feel. They provide dealerships next to other car dealerships for a great placement. Their prices were very competive because of the demand for economic cars. Saturn provided the target market with, product, promotion, place and price. Therefore, Saturn gave the target market what they wanted. That's good marketing."

Ok so after reading that you should see (hopefully) that I know what I'm talking about.
We as a community need to look at possiable target markets for jj2. One of the bigger ones out there would have to be the children video game market. And since this game was created for children it will be an easy target market to get. Plus if we get them while their young they will be hooked to the game and hopefully continue on playing the game for years to come. The downside to all of this is the video game market that provides children better gaming opptions then a 2d video game could.
Another target market could be young adults that used to grew up playing 2d games and would love experiance a community atmophere already created with the 2d game. Although there is a market for that I don't know how large it will be. The same can be said for teens and older adults.
For each possiable target market were going to have pros and cons for each one to focus on the bigger target markets that will be worth our time and effort to go after as possiable customers or rather users of the game.
We can create a different marketing strategies for each market. Which is fine, but we really should also do some market reasearch as well.
I think one of the big problems we will have is what if ppl want to play jj2 again and like what they see. What will we do when they can't find a copy of jj2 to buy?
Link, you have a good idea on trying to get ppl to come back and play the game again but, that target market isn't all that big either, if they wanted to come back they always could. If they want to find www.jazz2online.com the best possiable way to do that would be through a search web site. I believe it to be in the best interest to make sure that www.jazz2online.com can be found through all the search web site. I just tryed it out myself on 3 different search sites using the word Jazz JackRabbit and found web sites but nothing leading to J2O.
So I love would to help with Phase 2!
We just need to target jj2 in the right way so it looks good to the possiable target markets.
It would be interesting to see Epic marketing plan for jj2.
Anyways, when it comes to business I'm your man! I'm well educated in this area and I love it.. I've done all the business courses all throughout high school. I'm also an advisor for Junior Achievement (For those of you that don't know what that is, it's a company program that teachs high school students how to run your own business) I'm taking business at college and plan on getting my Masters Degree in Business as well.

(gah, lost my original post)
I believe what needs to be done first is to talk to Epic. We need to get them to the state of either supporting JJ2 again, or switching everything over to the fans. Once that gets done, we can work from there.

Idea 3 may be very easy because the company has put no intrest into jazz latley they may thinks it a waste of money to renew it!
