I use the keyboard and my settings are:

enter: change weapon
shift: run
right ctrl: fire
right alt: jump

The only change you use to play better is use and memorize the number keys for the weapons so you can switch faster. I don't do that, because pressing enter is a habit ;P

Dec 23, 2001, 11:11 AM
space: fire
right ctrl: change weapon
right alt: jump
right shift: run (I always hold it)
And the arrow keys to move.

BTW is there a way to change weaon keys? T'd like to select seekers by pressing a closer button.

I use the ones like they were in Jazz1.
Except for switching weapons I use enter..

Dec 23, 2001, 11:28 AM
I use my MS SideWinder Gamepad.

Joypad = Directions
A = Change Weapon
B = Run (I always hold this)
C = Jump
L & R = Fire

I like having two fire buttons, so I can shoot a lot without my fingers getting tired (L is for left index finger, R is for right index finger).

I also have text macros

X = Say "Bye"
Z = Say "Hi"

puttin yer fingers on the keyboard right can be a big advantage,

i'll explain each one

if you use the alt button for turbo, you will be able to keep pressing it thru out the game, if you use a different finger like the uhm (//) is the english word index finger i guess it's hard to move yer "middle finger" you'll be a lot faster.

i play a lot of ctf and the index finger is the fastest finger and when chasing changing between seeks and rfs has to be done fast, so i use
my index finger for firing with L
changing weapons with O
you'll never use them both at the same time so this is the best option.

then there's the jump button left
after the index finger the "middle finger"is the fastest one, and using the pinki and the err "ring finger" isn't fast enough cuz your hand has to turn first.

so use K for jumping.

so... the whole finger settin :

Turbo : Alt
fire : L
Wep. change : O
Jump : K

i got this old european keyboard well atleast for 2day, new comp arriving tomorrow (1800 mhz hehe)

oh anduhm get to know the keys, and the weapon order, for example, in ctf3 when you have all weapons (exept for the ice)
it takes three clicks on the wep change to get to gun #9 and this is real usefull for almost every tactic in ctf3.

this is propably the longest post by me... on a subject that is propably one of the most lamest in the whole history of jcf
:roll:

oh and uhm... don't use this this will take away my advantage to the rest of ya :D

Am I the only one here perfectly happy with the default controls?

I can do everything perfectly quickly, just press "t" accidentally sometimes... wish JJ2 could let you change the key bindings for things like chat.

I use a steering wheel for my controls. The wheel lets me move left and right, while the accelerator pad lets me run, and the brake pad lets me look down or crouch. Tilting the steering wheel makes me look up, and honking the horn allows me to shoot. It's pretty good, you should try it, because I sure haven't. ;-P

Maybe, iCeD. What are the default controls? I forgot.

directions - arrow keys (default)
run - [Shift]
Jump - [Z]
Shoot - [X] or [Space]

SteelTalon
Dec 23, 2001, 08:33 PM
I use:

Shift - Run (hold down on it infinitely)
Ctrl - Jump
Space - Fire
Arrows - Movement

This is one of the few setups that isn't cramped for me.

up = e
down = d
left = s
right = f
select = h
shoot = u
jump = o
run = i

There, confusing enough for you? ;)
Hehe, I use the keyboard keys because you can use buttons anywhere your fingers are in a comfortable position. Well, ok my layout isn't exactly like my dream layout used to be, but that's all thanks to my laggy keyboard. Yes, I've fiddled around with the keys pressing them in the strangest combinations to find out that the layout above is near lagless (can't press up while running and shooting). Oh, you want my old layout as well? Ok! :D

up = w
down = s
left = a
right = d
select = v
shoot = b
jump = m
run = n

I don't use the number keys cuz my finger is pretty happy with its current location on the keyboard ;)

Bah, if you use the defaults, re-map those suckers.

Ninety percent of the time, default controls suck. Figure out what you use the most, and map it all nice and convenient like.

Me, I use the keyboard. Also, Jazz doesn't distinguish between right and left shifts and stuff. I always use the right ones (if you use the left, the Ctrl and Alt keys are reversed on you...)

Cursors: Movement.

Shift: Jump (rest the middlemost fingers here)

Ctrl: Fire (index finger...fastest finger in the...err...hand)

Alt: Run (pinky goes here. Pinky ain't too nimble, but he makes a nice paper-weight, so he works for this).

Space: Switch Weapons (frankly, I usually have one weapon I'll use for a whole level, which depends upon the level. It's a pain switching weapons using one key, but reaching for the number keys causes you to lose control).

When I'm using my keyboard:

Left hand:

Up = W
Down = S
Left = A
Right = D

Right Hand:

Fire = O
Jump = P

Accessible by both hands:

Run = Shift
Spacebar = Select

With my 3d program pad (6 defaults and 4 custom), I use all the usual settings for the four buttons and use an additional 2 on top for firing (left) and jumping (right).

iCeD
Dec 24, 2001, 08:58 AM
The defaults keys are the same as ST/Wakeman/FS use... I use my second-left finger for holding shift, my pinky for Ctrl, my thumb for the spacebar, and my index finger for switching weapons (number keys).. I use my other hand for the arrow keys (movement)

VeggieMan

Defaults on the keyboard. It's all about the defaults. Almost the same as iCeD, I just use the enter key (still a default key) To run through the weapons I have. I sometimes use the number keys..

Violet CLM
Dec 24, 2001, 01:21 PM
Well, I don't pay attention to my fingers much, they just do what I want them to, but I guess I use the default controls then.

I'm pretty satisfied with the default controls too....if someone switched or changed the keys (like my brother does every other week) I would most likely get totally confused and lost. So NYA.

I use the standard controls. As the old saying goes, "don't fix what ain't broke."

There is nothing wrong with the regular controls.

Fascinating.

I use the same controls as Buster:
Ctrl = Fire
Shift = Jump
Arrow Keys = Movement
Space Bar = Change Weapons

Perhaps not the best set of controls, but they suit me. I used them in another sidescroller called Hunter's Hunted (by Sierra) before I played JJ2, so I was accustomed to them.

The only difficulty lies in changing weapons...my pinky can press the space key fast enough, but it's a bit difficult to press the number keys while still running - so I just don't bother with the weapon keys. Perhaps those who use the default controls have the right idea.:)

I got hunter hunted, pretty cool game, JJ@ better though. Anyway here are my bindings:

Arrow Keys - movement
Control - Fire
Shift - Run
Enter - Jump
Spacebar - Change Weapons

Mine are just like yours TurtleSlayer ;).

well, my layout's quite comfortable:

Arrow keys = move
Space = jump
ALT = fire ("M" if in window mode)
Shift = run
Enter = switch (I'm too lazy to remember the number keys)

I simply use my right hand for the arrows, shift and enter, and my left hand for space and ALT (or M)

Jan 1, 2002, 04:09 PM
Up = Enter

Down = Down
Left = Left
Right = Right

Fire = Control
Jump = Up
Run = Shift
Weapons = Alt

Txl, my keys are LESS strechy (or do you hacve long fingers- 100mm).
Anyway:
Move_Arrows
Select_Enter
Fire_Shift
Jump_Ctrl
Run_?

Some keyboards arn't good for this though. My key board has a TWO INCH LONG (lovely world... lovely life... god r00lZ...) shift key which makes shooting a party!!
