The answer is obvious: run a list server program.

We have no need in another listserver. :P

Why do you want to start a list server?

I am another person who wants to make a list server!

Why would you make a new lister server if there are already enough of them...?

ShadowGPW
Jan 29, 2002, 09:54 AM
Note: They are NOT compatable with each other, They Don't see each other (the servers) because the OTHER server needs your Domain IP too, It's also an ADMIN program for system admins that keep there computers up the whole day, if you do this LOSE each other from the net and there is much more of that KEEP it this way. It's also a Program that doesn't do much then loggin and hosting it.

ive tested thelist server program from Michiel Ouwehand Years ago with Bobby and an internal test with Gamepoint.

Conclusion, JUST DON'T DO IT! We don't need any more so Stay Away.

in his readme says:

You will not be part of the list server network untill other servers know
that your server is present. Before you will be part of the network, the
servers.txt on the other servers has to be changed.

So it's useless anyways!

You would have to get logicware to add you to their list, and I don't think they'll do that for just anybody.

That and the fact that there are major ethical problems to follow the logical ones.

By you getting and hosting listservers let's take JOL for example, if you host a serverlist all JOL members would move to that list taking them away from the small community we already have.

You are breaking the community into smaller parts than it's already broken and tatterd form. Don't follow the footsteps of the past, certain clans have tried it and failed. Don't pick up on their loss, you aren't better than them by stooping to that level.....

I hope this has meaning to those of you that want to host serverlists. I can't stop you, but i will not distribute the program and i will not support it. I just hope you see the error of your ways before it is just a little to late.....

Now, why would I want to break the community? ;)

I wanted to know how because I just wanted to know how. My computer is not dedicated and my internet connection is shared. There are already 4 mirrored servers on Logicware and 2 of them are never up. (flea.idlegames.com, albertolovesbugsy.idlegames.com)--I won't count mail.godgames.com because it doesn't work and is official. Therefore there are 3 servers you can connect to. That's already enough. (Hm. Anylazation: jazz.logicware.com for regualars, monolith.idlegames.com for backup, and list.jazzjackrabbit.com for n00bs.)

*breaks the community in half* :p

Monolith

list.jazzjackrabbit.com has still been down

Aiko

What Shad says: DON'T EVEN ASK.
And a little advise to the people who have the listsever program: DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT SPREADING IT.

List.jazzjackrabbit.com is up lots, it just comes down every once in a while. According to telnet.

Monolith

I've never seen it up any time the Battle Server has tried connecting to it...

Krezack

Aiko telling him that is quite futile, instead try giving him constructive critisism as to why he shouldn't like the others have done, also telling him what to do isn't gonna get you anywhere as how are you going to stop him and what right do you have to tell him not to? Like i said give him constructive critisism like: Thats a bad idea, spreading it whould tear the community apart so please don't spread it.

BTW if yas ever do put up another dedicated list server heres what ya do: make flea unregister his dns2go name then register it yourself, as this "ip address" is already registered on the logicware list server.

Its a nice idea but you carnt do it unless the other list servers add you so u your server can connect to them.
I have that program and its usless without the other servers.
Anyway we have atleast 2 so we should be fine :D

Why do you have that program, Xtreem? Something is going wrong in this "community".

Krezeck: you really don't have to tell me what i have to write here. We have had this discussion many times (on the JMMB, too), there was a lot of "constructive criticism" and i didn't even notice you back then. Thanks :-)

Me telling you what to write would be useless, i would be no better then you if i did that, i was merely stating theres no need to act like you are a pro and you own the place! Who gives a crap wether you were at the jmmb huh? this is the JCF now and you can't just go around ordering people about, the only status that i respect is that of the admins, mods, and nice people. So please don't treat me like im a pathetic newbie......think im a newbie thats fine i frankly don't care but bullying me i do care about that.

Once again we see an example of how sad and pathetic the JJ2 community has become... People have cool, spiffy and nifty programs that do cool spiffy and nifty things so they go and gloat about it. The JJ2 community is just "I have (insert program name here) and you don't!" Those of you who have all these things but arn't sharing them because they can "damage" the JJ2 community, you arn't protecting it, your helping to screw the community up even further. Just give evverything to everyone I say, without retarded password protection, and I don't think it'll be that bad, I mean, a ton of people have the megawarp and I'd say its causing more of a problem by being a "forbiden" program that only some people have than by allowing people to cheat. I havn't once seen MW used to cheat and win a battle or CTF or somthing. So in my opinion all this scretive or whatever you wan't to call it is just a load of crap. Now that I've said this I won't be surprised if I get flamed but oh well. Some "Community" we have here.

Krezack
Feb 3, 2002, 07:15 PM
That veiw is shared by a small portion of the jj2 community, many of which don't visit this board, which is good.

The list server program isn't some magical program. It doesn't do anything cool, or give anyone special powers, it just holds general info JJ2 servers send it. The program itself doesn't even give any more info than what you can get though telnet. Also, without being connected to the other list servers out there it's rather quite useless.

You don't understand it do you? This program is NOT COOL NOT FUN and TOTALLY useless for a normal user.. wait ill post full README

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Manifest -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

This package contains the Jazz Jackrabbit 2 list server for Win32 (tested
with Win95, Win98 and Windows NT 4.0).

j2serve.exe - Jazz2 list server for Win32
servers.txt - The list of servers in the list server network
readme.txt - This file

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- About -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Jazz2 server list program is a small cluster server. Multiple servers
around the world are constantly syncing with each other. When a Jazz2 user
start a game, a random list server is picked from the list and the Jazz2
game will be added to that list server. This list server will update the
other servers with the change. Jazz2 can get a server list from any of the
listservers, so if one is down or unreachable, another will take over.

The list server program is written in C, uses WinSock32 and occupies hardly
any memory, processor time or bandwith.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Setup -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

* Put j2serve.exe and servers.txt in some directory on your harddisk
* Start j2serve.exe (a tray icon will appear)
* Double-click the tray icon (the status window will appear)
* Press the "Server Name" button and enter the host name or IP address of the
computer that j2serve.exe is running on
* Setup completed

You can test the listserver's network connections by telnetting to it on port
10055. This will dump the same information available in the server dialog to
the incoming socket and then close the connection.

You will not be part of the list server network untill other servers know
that your server is present. Before you will be part of the network, the
servers.txt on the other servers has to be changed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Network ports -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Jazz2 list server uses the following network ports, you should configure
your Proxy or FireWall to let them pass.

- TCP, port 10053 List request port, used by Jazz2 to get a server list
- TCP, port 10054 Dynamic list port, used by Jazz2 servers to be listed
- TCP, port 10055 Status port, telnet here to see status
- TCP, port 10056 List server net port, used by listservers to sync with
each other.
- TCP, port 10057 Raw list port, telnet to this port to get a raw ASCII
server list.

Interesting ports to telnet to are 10055 and 10057, the other ports are
binary only.

albertolovesbugsy.idlegames.com was up time ago and it used to be up when jazz.logicware.com was down because it synced with Monolith's one always.

And when jazz.logicware.com comes back up again mine is mirroring with both.
