There's kind of a heated dispute in society about paintball and whether it is a legitimate sport. From what you know, what do you think?

Whats vandals got to do with it? You could say the same about many sports.

Well I'd say it isn't but I'm possibly uniformed. I still think that when I'm informed, I still wouldn't consider it a "sport..." to me, a sport is something you participate as a school-related co-curricular activity, or something that you do on a team. To me, "sports" always have organized competition. For example, if you snowboard for fun, you use it as your relaxation, and it's more like a recreational activity. If you compete in snowboarding though, it's a sport to you.
However, I don't consider cheerleading a sport, even if there are competitions. Cheerleading is dancing and/or screaming/clapping.

-> In other words, to use an example of myself, running is a sport only if you participate in races.

On the topic of sports, what is a "jock"? I've never figured that out.

Probably, by definition, I'm a jock. Come on, I did 4 sports this school year... :) Cross country, swimming, indoor track, outdoor track. (Indoor and outdoor are completely different, for anyone questioning that... even the distances are different!)

I think it's a sport because:

a. It's organized and has basic structure. The concept is more solid and more competitive than some sports. Is also a team-oriented sport.

b. It involves physical effort.

c. People compete to win.

hmm didn't have my answer: 'it's warfare. it's a type of sport, i suppose, but takes a lot more skill and strategy on an individual basis'

krsplat, paintball is where people shoot each other with paintballs. DuH. I Think they basically carry paintball guns around and try to hit each other..

I'm rather uninformed about this , but I still suppose that it's an actual sport. PaintBall has teamwork, and organization, and stuFF. Yeah. =P

I agree with Fox. It's can or can't be a sport depending on how the person plays it.

Jocks, stereotypically, are fools that have no intellegence and play too many sports. Nuff said. I think jock is most appropriate for football players, but I like football =)

Skating is people going around in circles. Go figure.

...

Paintball, for the uninformed, is a team sport based upon elimination. Generically, two teams are placed on separate field. There are two main types:

Speedball: Small, open with several various bunkers. (Bunkers = Cover)

Woods: Larger, more close combat, lots of trees and brush, wooden bunkers and forts.

The game starts, and, well, yes. People do shoot at eachother. And run, jump, crawl, dive, duck, walk, strafe, pop out from bunkers. And shoot. You're hit once: you're out. Often times, games such as Capture the Flag and King of the Kill are played as common variations.

Yeah, it's still just shooting at eachother.

Yeah, hunting is just killing innocent animals. Table tennis is just knocking a ball across a hard table with paddles. Dodgeball is just trying to smack people upside the head with a thick, rubber ball. Yeah, they're sports.

Paintball is comprised heavily of speed, strategy, tactics, stealth, communication, observation, and team coordination.

Oh, and..

Paintball isn't just shooting at eachother. It's TRYING to shoot eachother. That's the point.
