1998. See my post in the "when was jazz most fun for you" topic, if you actually care.
Oh, and you forgot 1997; the times when we were awaiting for the release of JJ2 and Jeh's Jazz 2 Warehouse was up.

I got the demo some time in late 1998 (either september or october), got the full version in January 1999 and started playing the game online as soon as I upgraded my connection from compuserve, which was February 1999, I believe. Back then I still had a 56k connection.
I didn't really become active in the community until around mid 2000.

I joined in late 2000 and spent most of my time annoying and irritating people. Funny thing is, I managed to become at least a little assimilated in such a short time, and have even met a few *interesting* people here so far. =P

I joined in late-1999, but wasn't really "in" the community until mid-2000 ("in" as in posting on the JMMB and being known by people).

I joined the community about a month or two before the demo came out. I guess that qualifies me as an 'oldie'! Even if no one remembers me :( (Remember the post "The Oldies"?)

I remember it was summer '98 and I saw the game in a magazine. I ordered it, and played it for a while. Checkin' out JazzJackrabbit.com which was actually updated! That was really cool. 1.23. Came out, and so I even got into online gamin'. Ok, let's stop my talking about those stuff.
Hm, but one particular thing I can remember the release of AstroniA's jj1 converted Snow set.. My first level was born: THE FIRST SNOW. =p

I got Jazz1 in 1998, 1999 or something then I played it a year or two then moved to Florida my dad's old 3.1/ DOS comp got really messed up and the monitor didnt work properly..there where lots of lines on the screen and stuff..but I still played..then my dad
got a new comp at computer shop..wait wait I am going to fast
before he went there,
I looked for Epic Mega Games on the internet then I found it then I found the Jazz2 official site and I think it was still updated...the Jazz1 official site still worked, Jazz2 City was Updated, The Fox Hole site worked and so on..
oh yeah the Jazz2 Stuff link worked..oh well back to before; my dad and me went to a computer show and there where lots of good deals, computer parts, software. My dad bought a new gateway laptop and I was looking for Jazz2 there, it was one of the last copies I think, it was about $9 or something then with tax $12 or something.
I didnt play online for mabye a couple weeks or mabye even a month. I didnt use JCF or whatever it was at the time..JMMB or something..
I finally found a link on Jazz2 Stuff to J2O. I downloaded a link to the battle server and joined the server using that and I didnt know how to chat for a few days then I was trying to cheat in multiplayer using single player cheats; I tried jjnxt and when I pressed the t, I got a chatthing and thats now I learned how to chat in Jazz2, at the time I played under my real name..those where good times!
I lost the J2O URL and I didnt know how to join internet games any other way, I could only join Mono's server. I finally found the URL again and later Mattw sent me the listserver patch so I could join other servers with Jazz2.
after I dnno how long..not that long I guess, I changed my name to Roseta. I didnt learn to make lvls for a while, took me longer to learn tilesets. I had a few friends then more and more ppl started to not like me, before that I was being a little annoying cause I was so bored and I wanted to know more ppl but they where ignoring me..

I've never heard of the game, why are you mentioning it here? ;P
Truthfully, I played for one or two monthes at sometime in '99. I was the person who actually *gasp* played. ;-P And I was obsessed with HazardDawg (I think it was his...)'s cops and robbers, a stupid level...the robbers went in the bank, where there were coins regenerating like mad, it used an old and horrible alien carnage tileset, and some interesting triggers, it was actually never completely finished.
Then I stopped, and returned sometime in mid 2001. I've been here ever since.

(I remember you, Another Jazz2 Fan!)
I joined a little bit before the demo releasal in 1998, so I guess I can slap the label "oldie" on myself too. I feel so proud of myself, or something. Fear my skilz.
I actually followed the game around for a bit before 1998 becuase I was a Jazz1 junkie and when I heard about the new game I was all over it. Anyone remember in 1996 or so when that pack of screen shots for Jazz2 was released? I used those at wallpaper =) I remember just looking at them in amazement, and then downloading the demo and playing that, it was a match made in heaven. I am a Jazz2 junkie. Pity me.

A good number of people here actually did join in the realm of 1998, and since a lot of them have stayed current, that explains that. I joined in spring 1998 and preordered the game from europe or whatever it is that we did. The demo was good times and the old epic board was functioning. A lot of people were tehre before me so I wasn't a huge early bird.

Cool, Spaztic! So, I'm not actually being generally ignored!
(said with a hint of sarcasm)
Yeah, I got the Jazz 1 CD (Although it was around 1996 or something then). Actually, I should begin at the beginning. Xargon. My dad bought the shareware once at a computer show. It was the first platforming game I had ever played. Since then, I have been a great fan of Epic MegaGames. Whenever I visited my dad's work (always fun for me), I would get on the internet and check Epic's sight. I was really excited when Jazz 2 was announced (I think that was sometime in '96). I would check back at later times. I knew about the existence of the Epic Mega Message Board, but I didn't join.
Time passed, and eventually I was using the internet A LOT more often... at home. (I was older). Hmmm... I think maybe I was in sixth grade (I'm in tenth, now.) The first community I was ever a part of (however infinitely small a part) was the Redwall community. Several months later I thought about joining the Jazz 2 community. I had already thought up a name : I would call myself Another Jazz 2 fan, because there were several people there. And so I joined. I remember people like Onag, Dethman, Wakeman (all were around back then long before me). There were also others, Captain Spam, ZZT Pyro, Gizmo (with his awesome 'brought to you by' signatures), I think Bluez was there, and several others. I remember when there was 'competition' between the JJ2 community and the ZZT community. (Wonder what happened to them now ;) ) And yes, that was back when Epic people posted on the board. (Or should I say, now, former Epic employees?) But that was back before the great Epic layoffs. (And I will never forgive them for that, Jazz began to go downhill from that point onward and not even *it* could save us.) But, enough about that!
Well, here I still am. Of course, I've been posting on and off. As well, I have nowhere near the number of posts as I did back on either of the Epic MMBs, or the JMMB. (Well over 100 each.) Guess that's why most newbies don't know me. Well, I've started posting again, so expect to see more of me in the future!!

I started playing Jazz online february 2001, and I'm going to get into the community :D. I've been on J20 and the jcf from april 2001 or something, but i have only observed it, never actually posted, but I'm starting to post more and more... and more, and..... (i guess you understand it now)

I got the game almost right after it was released, but i didn't play online much the first year. And when i did, it took me another while to find out about Jazz 2 City. I got there just in time to "post" a level there and find out about Universe Jazz before J2C died. When Universe Jazz died, i stopped playing the game for a while, but when i stumbled upon Jazz 2 Online, i got back immediately, so here i am!
So when it comes to playing the game, i'm sort of an oldie, but i'm relatively new to the community (March 2001)

I joined in 1998 and was the fifth Jazz 2 City member, maintaining the Links. I did the Jazz 2 City Links Web Companion, but lost it when the Zip disk it was stored on died. That's pretty much all the noteworthy stuff, 'cept I ordered JJ2 when it cost $50.

et tu, Cell? BTW, I guess I do remember something of interest. In Shadow's sig, he's got "Synthetic Hydraulic Android Designed for Observation and Warfare"
Well, a long time ago someone found an interesting generator. It took a name and turned it into an acronym for some wacky phrase, and the above sounds exactly like something it made up. :D
