Jazz1 Recode

okay, I was just sort of getting sick of all the polls and decided to post some sensible topic.

Recoding Jj1, does anybody know enough of this ancient language to recode it into a better Jj1 with possibly multiplayer?

Eh? :confused: are you talking about JJ1 being enhanced? if so why? Jazz2 has all the stuff (including multiplayer) so why would we need an enhanced Jazz1?

Obviously becuase Jj1 would run faster, a bit better compatibility, and just becuase I think it would be fun to have some of the things jj2 lacked (3d bonus levels) in there with multiplayer. Other than that, a good recoding would probably give it a faster netplay.

The only person I know who has any knowledge in pascal is my dad. He doesn't care about jazz1, though ;P

It's fully possible to make JJ1 levels.. it just takes forever and a day. So that I think there must have been some other way, that they didn't include.

I think its a great idea, but how about a Jazz1 lvl edditor, that should be possible...and the ability to also create 3D levels:D once I get my own PC that will be ok!
Get a book on pascal or something, get the Jazz1 code if you dont alerady have it or if I am right, use a debugger..

Actually, they forgot it existed, so they can't make it freeware. Arjan also thought this engine had potential...but forgot about it too, so we'll never see it. ;-P

I coded a bit of Pascal in...errr....the mid-nineties. But, heh, i don't remember a lot so i won't be very helpful :-)

Color cycling... one of the things J2 lacked =P. Is Pascal easy to learn?

dunno in what way the jj1 editor is made.. prolly some dos program.. although Arjan says that the jj1 editor is a lot more advanced then the jj2 editor.. will see..

Erm well me and Quist know Delphi which is BASED on Turbo Pascal but....thats like saying you know Visual Basic to something thats asking if you know BASIC...2 completely different things almost.

Yep, I know some basic Delphi. Not enough to make any good games. :)
Monolith, on the other hand attends a game design college..

Delphi is derived from Object Pascal, I think. It may even be fully
compatible.. but I might be wrong.

I think Pascal was intended more as a learning tool, to start people off in learning to program. I first learned to program in Pascal, but then I learned C++...

I'm learning some Pascal right now...it's not that's hard, i just think it's a waste of time. A better intro to C++ would be C (even though some people say it's a hard migration, at least C is useful).

I still don't see why a Jazz1 recode can be any better than Jazz2.

I think the main problem is that it isn't easy to get to the original images and animations and stuff.

Well, I just thought it'd be a lot easier than a jj2 recode. Jj1 would be better counting it ran in a fast DOS mode... and if you've played it you would have understood how it was actually a challenge.

Hey guys! That's not a bad idea! Since nobody will make JJ3, lets ask 'em to make JJ4! We'll just skip JJ3! :D (j/k)


Actually I think it'd be cool to have a JJ1 Expansion pack! But I can't program either :( (I think my brother knows Pascal, but I don't think he's gonna do it. :D He'd be way too busy :p)
