Ok. Due to popular request heres the petition for custom ranks. Please mods. in charge of the board, consider this. This petition will be open for 1 1/2 weeks. So vote while you can!

The problem with having this petition here is that nobody ever visits this forum! I didn't even visit this forum, until I found out about the petition being here!

Even if this petition survived, got a majority of votes, was accepted by the Admins, and was enacted according to our foolish whims, my rank would still be JCF Member. I'm just that bland.

Well, Avatars are out of the question. Maybe custom ranks are not. The admin opinions differ.

I would just like to say, petitions have no influence on the admins. If we find a good reason to oppose this, we'll say no. Otherwise we'll say yes.

Yes I knew there were 9, but I didn't count Nebula because I've never seen him on here. But now that there are 9 votes for no....it works.

Custom ranks: User must be registered for X amount of months in order to use it and thus can't abuse it (you can abuse postcount - you can't abuse time).

Avatars: You put up a select group of avatars and disable custom ones. This way people can't abuse it (cept admins and mods...and i doubt they would).

Just some ideas but they work pretty well from what i've seen.
One of the best/worst ways for spamming is to make a spam section. So as long as you steer clear from that and moderate the board well enough then spam should be a minor problem rather then the large one that you people think it will be.

My opinions..: (not that anyone cares but SO WHAT)

I personally prefer no avatars..This because all the avatars of about 700 members will be stored on the webserver which could slow down the forums. Of course you can disable them for yourself in your own user control panel, but it's in my opinion just wasting webspace.

Custom ranks..Yeah, I say the'd enable them, too. It won't really eat DB or webspace and it's fun. It brings us some more varation (??). And I don't see how to spam with custom ranks..Even by changing your rank every half an hour it isn't really annoying..And ofcourse this 'JCF member''s getting bored after such a long time..

But let's just wait for the admins what they decide..

I'm against avatars, but I want custom ranks.

They aren't like the post-count ranks, where people would spam to get a higher ranking. I don't see how any bad can come of them.

What about just a trial period? Like have them for a month, and review how well they went. If nothing bad happened, then keep them.

I know the admins do a great job, but I think something like this could be handled a bit better. It isn't like the world is going to come crashing down if something goes wrong with custom ranks. They can simply turn them off at the first sign of abuse. It doesn't have to be set in stone. There shouldn't even have to be a consensus between the admins. From this poll, there are obviously more people who want custom ranks than people who don't, so why not just give it a try? Maybe some of the people who voted no would change their mind if we tried it.

You could also put in a way to personally shut them off, and that would keep everyone happy.
