View Full Version : Idea for N00bs

Many n00bs can't find the JJ2 community easily. There are links to dead websites on www.jazzjackrabbit.com . Why not register an old website domain (say, www.jazz2city.com) and have a message telling whoever to go to www.jazz2online.com?

How about creating a j2o tileset, or place j2o link text signs in all of our levels?

(Rethought: Do we really want a bunch of n00bs that are too lazy to search for a JJ2 website?)

It's nearly impossible to find J2O on google, which is the most popular search engine. Meta data does almost nothing these days. If you really want your website to appear high on the list of google, you need to pay them.

The only problem is: Dethman keeps the J2C domain occupied.

For the things that won't come.

All Battle Server levels have the URL of BSC is them, and BSC has links to J2O and the JCF.

And just exactly how would they find the battle server?

Erm, maybe when Monolith has it running and they join.

Well, take a look at some other things that rank high in various search engines.
E.g. the Jazz 2 Webring still ranks high AND is, I believe, accessible. Post a message there.
E.g.2. all the review pages that get listed. Some of them have a "suggest a link" feature. Make use of it!
E.g.3. the official G.O.D. games Jazz 2 page. It has a links section and as far as I know it's still accessible by the admins.

As for Alltheweb.com, it's covered. ;) (just search for Jazz Jackrabbit and see what comes up in the top 3)

Google sorts at popularity, IE, how much links it can find to the website. If every website linked J2O it would rank highest.
Sadly, this also means things like review sites get the highest ranks, because so much people know Gamespot.

Jazz2Online also is on dmoz.org, which is good.. saddly they did not give us a recommendation star. :P
Dmoz.org is supposed to feed Google, but apperently that doesn't work. Probably because the category in which JazzJackrabbit resides is "Jazz Jackrabbit Series" instead of "Jazz Jackrabbit 2"

On a side note, they are asking for an editor at the DMOZ page. If you want to maintain a JJ2 link section on one of the most popular Internet databases...

Last time i tried this to prove iCeD wrong on something it took me an hour of searching through google...webrings>broken links>web rings>old hazes site>web rings>new haz site> search for 10 minutes>jazz2online.

if I am not mistaken, there is a link to J2O on Haze's site

I'd say we infest TSF with j2o levels :D

There's nothing stopping you and others.
Tough, the tilesets and levels should not be ugly. ;-)

Exactly why I would love to see the webring up again and working properly. :) Thus ppl who arrive at one site will also easily find the other ones.

How would new n00bs (I don't think they exist but you never know) play without the serverlist patch?

Doh! I thought I was the master of the obvious. I guess I'll have some work to do.

Somebody could e-mail Epic and ask them to put a J2O link on the official JJ2 site. I mean, you can always try!

IMO, the best way for n00bs to enter the JJ2 community is to play JJ2, because that's really where the JJ2 playing community is.

Mwoehaha,
We could infest the whole wide web by cracking all sites and all games and put a big text with HTTP://WWW.JAZZ2ONLINE.COM/ so all n00bs must go there and play Jazz2 (what we will not hack).

Ok,
I'll take site 1 to 1000000000
Someone that wants to do site 10000000001 to 2000000000000?

My ideas are good ain't they?

RosetaLopRabbit
Mar 19, 2002, 10:29 AM
thats an idea, could crack/hack all sites without a link to J2O on them..

jazz2city.com is not taken anymore. It is free to register. I suggest someone here registers it before some Jazz music site takes it. You could make it link directly to J2O, or put up a message saying "Jazz 2 City is no more! Visit http://www.jazz2online.com instead."

And then everyone thinks we're a group of hackers. ;-P

Who's gonna pay loads of money just for a redirection to J2O..? I think indeed that it's an good idea to register it and link it to J2O, but who's gonna do that..?

The J2O admins! ;)

And seriously, there are places to register domains for like $15 US, which is not very much. (as long as you live in the US)

Yes, I think it's not too hard to find a website with the URL "www.jazz2online.com". If they are too stupid :D to find that URL, I think we don't need them :D  :D!

First of all, it's Dethman's property..

Link
Mar 21, 2002, 10:42 AM
The domain name is not owned by him anymore. Go to any whois site and you will see that it is free to register.

I know that this might not be the nicest thing to do (RIP Jazz2City) but it would certainly help get the community more known to new jazzers.

There could be a "tribute" to J2C or Dethman on the page which links to J2O.

Okay, just for your common sense, they wouldn't be able to get into the battle server since if they haven't been to j2o they haven't gotten the server list patch and the jj2 program only comes equipped with the jazzjackrabbit.com listserver... therefore they wouldn't be able to see any severs whatsoever unless they were on TSF.
