Hello.
I really want to know how to get my IP, I'm running under Windows XP and I can't find out, help!

Go to http://www.ipaddress.net/
Your IP address is displayed in the middle-centre of the page.

Open a command prompt and type in: <B>ipconfig</B>

ipconfig is only useful if you aren't behind a router. For an indirect connection, ipconfig only gives you your local IP address.

Start, Run, type 'Winipcfg' and press 'Ok'.
<B>HIGHLY NOT RECOMENDED TO GIVE OUT</B> you can get hacked throguh it.

He can't use winipcfg.. he said he has XP which doesn't have that (though there is a clone you can download and rename to winipcfg)..

Giving out your IP address is no more unsafe than playing JJ2. Anybody can get your IP address through JJ2 when you join their server. And you can't get hacked only through your IP. You need to have a bad program or a security hole in your system <strike>(like if you have a router and an internal network without passworded shares and you turn on the DMZ host option or forward port 139...:eek: )</strike>

If you are on a dial up connection you will have a diffrent IP address each time you connect, if you have a broadband connection chances are it will always be the same or change ever few months.
