Adding Original Music?

Can anyone tell me how to add my own music to levels?

I know it uses files with special extentions, but how do you convert other sound files (i.e. .wav, .acd or .mp3) to .j2b files?

What programs are used to create: .669, .AM, .FAR, .MOD, .XM, .IT, .MTM, .PTM, .S3M, .STM and .ULT files?

As said, you can't convert formats such as .wav, .acd or .mp3 DIRECTLY to .j2b. There's no support for such formats in Jazz 2. There are ways to work around this "problem" but it has a serious drawback. For more info search in some older topics on this forum.

The other files are so called "modules". They can be created with programs such as Impulse Tracker (DOS), ModPlug Tracker (Windows) or Cheesetracker (*nix). You can use such files directly in Jazz 2 without having to convert them to the .j2b format. Make sure you've updated your Jazz 2 to the latest version!

There are lots of songs that are made already that you can use. The older people who went on J2C probably downloaded some of the music packs on there. As a result, there are some custom songs that a lot of people have that are <strike>commonly</strike> used in JJ2. I can send some of these to you (I have about 200 or so).

Remember that JJ2 Internet play doesn't download custom music (but again, lots of people have these songs)

I do recall someone telling me iCeD had multiple gigs of mod files. ;)

This works sometimes (I tried myself)

First, download MODplug (http://www.modplug.com) and MOD2J2B (http://www.jazzjackrabbit.com)

1. If you want to convert a .wav, go to step 3
2. If you want to cenvert a .mp3, first convert the MP3 to WAV. There are several programs to do this.
3. Open MODplug, then open (in modplug) the (converted) .wav file.
4. Click on the little button "Save"
5. Now save the file in your JJ2 directory. The extension (.MOD, .XM etc) is already set and mostly this one gives the best MOD quality.

Altough, mostly the quality is bad. Not always anyway, so you could give it a try.

There are a few drawbacks to the above mentioned method, but it works. :)
