View Full Version : Some basic advice for all J2O users

Aiko
May 2, 2001, 08:13 AM
I posted some quick tipps and tricks for J2O here (http://jazz2.nagcentral.com/articles/view.php?id=20). Hope it will help making J2O even better. I've seen some unpleasant developments (esspecially regarding reviews and ratings) lately and i found it a good idea to put some advices together in one text. If you have something to add, please message or e-mail me and i will add it.

Heh, and don't read Fquists first "comment" to it, must be a PHP bug or something :-)

I feel like these tips don't sound right. 10 days to work on a level no way man, that's way too many days!

10 days is even to less for me...

or i must work NoN-Stop but thats not an option..

Always use the re-upload/edit info function to correct mistakes like uploading a wrong version or level bugs.

What if I want to re-upload a minor edit? It wouldn't be practical to post it as a whole new thing, I wouldn't think. And if you say Why didn't you make the edit before?, perhaps I thought of it afterwards, or discovered some new trick.

i didnt talk about "ten days" actually. please read the article :-)

and talec, i dont get your point. hmmm.

sorry if my english seems mistakble sometimes, its a foreign language to me you know :-)

Well, you said the reupload was for correcting bugs, but what if I want to reupload a slightly different version of a level (for example, I may have added some eye candy or a new puzzle... etc). It would be pointless to post it as a different thing, because it was so similar to the original.

Did that help? Probably not, I don't explain things too well :P

Um...yes, i completely agree with you, Talec. Why? :-)

Isn't that what Aiko said...?

Just a thing I noticed, editing messages: editing only has one "t" (I think).

edit:

When I try and delete my comment, I get:

Parse error: parse error in /home/nagcent/public_html/jazzonline/jazz2/articles/deletecomment.php on line 75

Yeah... only admins and possibly moderators can delete posts.

Eh? 10 days on one level is *not* a long time.

Aiko
May 5, 2001, 02:14 AM
Huh? Whats that, Bobby? There was a time when users were able to do delete their own posts. Which makes sense, by the way!

There are so many N/A and pointless comments in the D/B. If there's some technical problem with that, i kindly ask you (or Fquist maybe :-) to remove it :-)

UrbanMenace
May 5, 2001, 03:12 AM
Well, it said "Admins only" or something, but when I actually clicked on the "delete" link, it said Admins and the author of the message.

Just bug me about it when I go into your server Aiko.

oh btw...i just noticed another very annoying bug. lately, some people tended to rate certain things twice. would it be possible to prevent that? j2o had this feature already last year, but right now, it doesnt seem to work anymore (user BlackDeath rated mirrow's "dinner" twice for example).

secondly, is it possible to rate my own upload? auto preventing ppl from doing that would be another helpful function.

fquist? :-)

You are not able to rate your own post except for n/a. I thought that people were not allowed to post ratings on a level twice though... I'll have to look at it

10 hours? Good thing that was "at least"! ;P That's just the time to make a mediocre level or a small portion of a good level. It takes me 30+ hours to create a really good one (hence no levels finished by me... be on the lookout, though!).

Thank you oh wise Aiko!!!!!!*bows to Aiko*

Oops...I frogot to ask what is J2O anyway?

Eh? 10 days on one level is *not* a long time. (Spaztic)

Depends on how the creator is feeling. I finished Shadowland Battle in one night, with only a little editing later http://jazz2.nagcentral.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif But that was pretty unusual, most of my projects take at least 10 days.

I agree with Talec, I once made a level that took a month to be at a state where I though it couldn't be improved anymore(of course this was after I edited it about 20 times, separately)and thats one of my fastest times for making a level, I spent around two hours a day working on it, sometimes five(rarely)

What is J2O?!?

!@%#^$(!#(%$@!#)(*@%

Fquist, you REALLY need to increase bond between these two sites. =P

J2O = Jazz2Online

*heh*Sorry Steel, but I haven't done anything associated with jazz2 in about a year and a half, I don't think I was even on the JMMB

I might of been for a little bit, but that was it

Speaking of increasing the bond between the two, you can do so by adding a link to J2O at the disclaimer at the bottom. If you don't already have some kind of "Forums" link to JCF on J2O that's in a readily visible place, you should do so in the same trip. ;-P

Thats a good idea derby!

then people here who don't know about J2O(like me for example) will then see that banner, wonder what it is, and then check it out

I have taken those suggestions in mind. (bad grammar?) Thanks.

JazzOnline?

JazzOn-Line?

www.jazz2online.com (http://www.jazz2online.com) has been registered for a year but communitech did not allow us to link it to our site because we used a subdomain. When I re-register it I might work together with dimension jazz to link it to j2o..

I deleted the other review. I was not aware of it at the time, I tend to forget very fast.

I might even have forgotten to delete http://jazz2.nagcentral.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif

or not... hmmz

NEway I have not seen double ratings after that... (I didnt bother to read the rest of the topic either)

but i think n/a posts should be available, because besides newbies (no offence), people might actually have something useful to say.
