View Full Version : Why can't I get over 70fps?

On the second-to-best resolution or below, Jazz 2 runs at 70fps always and never dips below it. In fact, it never goes above it, either. I have never gotten a fps above 70. Why is this? The settings don't seem to matter. I am running a Diamond Viper V550 (nVidia TNT with 16MB of RAM), Pentium II at 450MHz, 64MB of SDRAM, etc.

Yeah, there is a framecap of 70 that the developers put in. I vaguely remember reading an interview of cliffyb where they said they didn't put it in because there really wasn't a need because the eye can't detect speeds much faster than that.

But from a technical standpoint, I can't really see why they did it (although framecaps can make your experience a bit smoother).

There is a cap at 70fps, although mine has flickered to 71fps a few times.

From a technical standpoint, there is a framerate cap so your computer isn't wasting it's processor time rendering useless frames when it could be processing something else.

Yesterday, I was in a server where people were claiming they were getting 130 FPS. Mindless chatter, I gather?

I think somewhere on the CD case it says up to 70 fps. Or maybe the website. Same thing.
