View Full Version : Removing the level password w/ hex editor

Hm. All of my old levels are passworded, at the time I thought this was a good idea. Naturally I remember very few of them. This creates a problem if I want to edit them, which I do, at least to remove the password, or to fix errors in them.
I know you can do this with a hex editor but no one has explained this to me in good detail before. I searched back and apparently Overlord also made a program to ignore passwords, but that might have been deleted (Some people actually have secrets worth keeping inside). In any way, i'd lke to get back into my old haphazardly passworded levels - how can I do it?

No, i don't think this will get closed. . http://www.nirvana2.com/smilies/ohwell.gif
However i've also found the answer in an old Jazz2online article about passwords. I didn't think to look there, and instead of the piece of trash hex editors I've used before, also a nice clean one.
This can be done easily and with no harm to the level naturally, and now I no longer need to be bothered by neglecting to remember old passwords. Good stuff.

A password-ignoring JCS is the best }>

Trouble is that most of the assembly fiddlers can not be bothered to do it anymore. But there is still the way of removing it from the level entirely.
Disguise: Did you lose mine or something? Or are you talking about a TSF one?

I have that modded JCS for 1.23, I'd like a TSF version too though.
I used to know how to do it with a hex editor though.

You can't do it with a hexeditor alone unless someone told you which address to edit.

Wow...no need to revive such an ancient topic.
This is not the place to request programs such as that. If you really want it, it probably is not too hard to find, but the JCF is not the right place to request such "gray area" programs.
