View Full Version : Rabbits Can FLY!!!

I discovered a bug recently in JJ2, this one quite major actually.I noticed, when hosting, occasionally, if I buttstomped an opponent to death, I was given the ability to quite literally FLY for a short period. This glitch actually allows people to access, in Battle1, the mysterious area in the top right hand area.Basically, heres the procedure in a nutshell:

1.Go to the Seeker Powerup platform.
2.Buttstomp a second player to death. The last hit MUST be a stomp.

3.Hold the jump button.
4.If done correctly, and with a little luck, you should jump through the air right to the secret!

This trick works anywhere, although only the server can pull this off, for some reason. The "flight" is like having a huge stack of One way platforms temporarily. So this means you can stand, sidekick, uppercut etc., all in the air! This effect lasts for only a small amount of time, although the flying character can jump for a total of 75 tiles.Better yet, if the server is on top of another player and the player the server is on top of leaves the game(By free will or not ;) ) the server will be able to jump WAY OVER 100 tiles!!!Thanks to Radium, who helped me in the tests.More on this story as it develops.(So, am I famous yet?;) )

That trick is kind of cool, but it only works for clients.

This once happened to me in a public game, it was Battle1 yes. Now your explaining me this, I dont think it was a editted level like I thought there before with invisible one ways so you could jump up.

Might I add, this is only if the player who leaves is the last person in the server.

Wow. Very nice glitch. You are famous in my book. ;)

Yay!Fame on my very second post!;) .Note that this hasen't been tested with Lori in TSF, although I'm sure that there wouldn't be a difference.BTW don't give me all the credit!Radium helped me test the trick.

I've always enjoyed that when it happened but i've never realized exactly how it happened. Not that this will help it happen more frequently in my game but what a nice thing it is to know how this is carried out. :p

Stuff is good

Actually, Evilmike, in my tests with Radium, only I could do the "Stomp Flight" as we dubbed it, with me being the server. When Radium hosted, he was able to do the trick. So unless you're thinking of something else, you might want to test again.;)

Maybe the secret room in Battle1 wasn't a mistake. Maybe one of the game's designers wanted a secret way to always win Battle1. This certainly will make hosting it more fun.:p It was funny when Canadian and I first found the flying trick out; we were playing king of the hill with shields, and suddenly Canadian floated away! The flying thing also works when you stomp someone with a shield.

Yes, how could I forget that, Radium?;) Note that if you stomp someone with a shield, you fly, although it doesn't last as long.I'd like to go to the "Top Secret Area", as I call it (in honour of the area in Super Mario World with the powerups) in 1P, as it has many 1P only events(like a Float Lizard)up there.Note that the person who gets there hogs all the spoils. The stuff there doesn't respawn, so first one there gets it all.

You evil official level editor!:p No just joking, but this adds a whole new layer of depth to Battle1. Could this be the orgin of the weird text string in Battle1, "nothing to see here"? An event testing ground?Who knows? *Cue X-Files theme*

When asked, someone from the team said in refrence to that area; "The ultimate weapon is here". Actually, some of the letters were replaced by dashes, but it was translatable.

Nice trick...I didn't know about that. (I didn't know about the secret area in battle1, either.) :)

I buttstomped SteelTalon (or stripe-I can't remember which) today when he was coptering and that happened to me, even though the stomp didn't kill him.

I was server, too, by the way.

Hmm...the ultimate weapon is there...well, I checked, thinking a Laser Shield event or something might be there, but nothing but powerups, ammo, and enemies, nothing that could be an Ultimate Weapon...unless you consider a lizard the ultimate weapon.:p .Actually...that area ITSELF could be a weapon...plenty of ammo, a high place to lob bouncies and seekers from, stomping to crush players below...can you say "death from above"?;) This adds a whole new depth to the level...and the mystery of the Ultimate Weapon...besides, if you don't want to be a sniper, it can be an ammo refill station...could this unravel the mystery?

Well, I don't know if this file is default, but it is in my jazz2 folder...it is entitled "Battlea.j2l".....it was created a few days apart from battle1.j2l... and it has the text events in it...as well as some other things, like hurt event spikes, springs where they would be more handy :D, stuff like that....pretty weird...anyone else have this? I think its default that wasn't used..theres also a spaz start next to the jazz one, some stop enemy events..the list goes on..if no one has it, I can sent it to them by email or via AIM...SN= SBKJAZZ

It's weird, I tells ya.

EDIT: I just sorted my Jazz 2 Levels by Date, the oldest one was beach.j2l (Friday, April 03, 1998 12:42:02 PM), the 2nd oldest was this mysterious file battlea.j2l, (Friday, April 03, 1998 12:42:02 PM)....thats pretty strange..the next ones were the un-used secret levels and the diamondus stages..

How early did you get JJ2 full version? I hear about games having changes made to it around initial release, then having changes made. Maybe it was a beta level Epic forgot...? Or maybe it's a Battle1 you edited when you first got JJ2 and forgot about it.:p

Violet CLM

Battlea comes with JJ2. It's a modified version of Battle1, as Kjazz mentioned.

I didn't get a "battlea.j2l" file with MY JJ2...maybe you didn't understand what I meant. Maybe in the game's initial release, the file was mistakenly packaged with the game, but Epic got rid of it for later releases. Game companies do that, though some don't like to admit it. (My, we've gone off topic :p )

EDIT: On a hunch, I checked my relatively unused TSF folder. I found I DO have it! I'm just checking it out now. So throw away my old theory- I probabaly deleted it, thinking it as some level someone hosted and that I didn't need.

EDIT NUMERO DEUX: I checked out "battlea.j2l". It's similar to the Battle1 we all know and love, except for a total lack of healing carrots, spikes on the ground, a bird cage, and a layer 7 background. Possibly just an "alternate" Battle1 to use if the original got boring? Or is that too smart a move for Epic?;) J/K
But it's fairly similar to the original.

Hmm...Weirdness.
A waste of space, though.

Take a look at the actual timestamp. Most of the levels included with jj2 are marked as 4/3/98 and are exactly the same time (11:42 AM on my computer). Beach and Battlea are first on the list because of alphebetical listing.

All the levels were probabaly compiled or something, at the same time. Anyway, it's hard to tell if the "Top Secret Area" is a mistake, or intentional. Maybe intentional, since it's in both Battle1 versions. Maybe it's just because of the same thinking that made them put a SHIELD, IN THE EASY TO ACCESS CORNER OF DIAMONDOUS WARZONE!!! NO CHALLENGE TO ACQUIRE IT, AND...er...sorry, my insane side broke out again. 'Scuse me. *Forces a psychotic looking version of Iam Canadian back into a confining cage*

The single player events in that level are interesting but I imagine that Epic may have been planning on allowing more events in Multiplayer such as outside influences that would hurt you (ie the lizard or other animals, and the hurt event, which only half-works in multiplayer).
I'm sure they wanted to be able to use that Bird too, it seems like that would have worked fine in theory for Multiplayer - but there must have been a bug.

I believe battlea.j2l was an early version of battle1.j2l and they were planning to make a battleb.j2l and battlec.j2l. You can tell by the not-very-good weapon placement, the hurt-lacking spikes, etc. that this was not made after battle1.j2l. Besides, the creation date is earlier.

More flight goodness!:D I learned if you (as the server of course) stomp a FROZEN enemy, you get flight abilities! Yayz0rz!...Anyway, any feedback?
