I was kinda just a little bit wondering how you play Jazz Jackrabbit over the internet?

I know there's something on J2O, like 'Games in progress' but I don't know how to use it.

You go, in JJ2:

New Game
Party Mode/Multiplayer
Internet Game
Join a Server
Select character attributes
Start

You will need the 1.23 patch and list server patch. Good luck! :D

(Trafton: somehow I created a pulldown box. Very, very strange. Removed now.)

You can get both the 1.23 upgrade and the list server patch at the "other downloads" section of Overlord's site (http://www.geocities.com/atlastsome/jj2/shj2.htm)

I have the same problem. I know how to join, but not how to host......

A firewall could stop you from hosting. Do you have one?

Blackraptor
Sep 15, 2002, 02:13 PM
Nope, I dont, im sure of it, the problem is, when I host, I wait hours, and noone joins, I think Im hosting in the wrong place.

Blackraptor

Are you using a router or similar device? If so, you need to get the NAT security disabled on it; either that, or forward ports 10052-10054 TCP and UDP to your LAN IP address.

It seems as if there are two topics going on about the same thing at the same time, acid's and Blackraptor's.

(Trafton: 2 to two edit. Heh, that sounds funny.)

and one generally about the same thing, started by yours truly.

I guess that there is two topics going on, yet there is also one.
Two topics that have to do with the same thing. I think Im using a router. I need to know how I can specifically host the game in the games in progress setion, not on some wierdo shut down site where noone can join. I think you might need to set the coordinates to Jazz2online or something like that:confused:

This gets tiring explaining this over and over again. I wish people would look at old posts and at the JJ2 FAQ.

Do you have a router or not? Nobody can help you if you "think" you have one. Ask someone more knowing in your household if you have one, and how to get to the configuration screen for it.

Version 1.22 is compatible with 1.23 online play (as is 1.21). You only need to get the list server patch.

The games in progress on J2O come from the jazz.logicware.com list server. If you get the list server patch, you can automatically get to it through JJ2. There is no way to directly list your server to the J2O games in progress.

The list server patch is not affected by your version of JJ2, because it is just a registry entry, not a patch to the actual program.

Trafton, that wasn't really needed. I said the exact same thing in my post.

And it is already added and has been for a long time.

mfff.

I downloaded and unzipped the list server patch. I tried to join a game, but it said:

Error connecting to list servers

About the thing on J2O, is it possible to join one of those games by clicking on it or something, or is it just there to tell you what games are in progress?

The list server patch does not patch the JJ2 game.

It is a .reg file which you have to double-click on. It will then add the new list server information to the registry.

Another question...

I FINALLY got the serverlist to work in JJ2, but now I want to ask another question.

How do you get your server to appear in the 'games in progress' thingy on J2O?

I'm trying to join a server, but every time I join, it stays for a few seconds, (somewhere around 10) and then my connection to the internet times out and I have to rejoin. What is my problem?

The problem is not my firewall, I tried turning it off and that didn't work.

This happens to some people, and I believe this somehow depends on the server's ability to ping you. It causes a fake timeout on some machines.

Here, try this:
Change your default list server to Monolith's (monolith.idlegames.com):

1. Go to the start menu
2. Go to Run
3. Type in regedit and press OK
4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
5. Go to Software
6. Go to Epic Megagames (or similar)
7. Go to Jazz Jackrabbit 2
8. Go to 1.23
9. Go to List Servers (or similar)
10. In the right pane, double click on the 000 (zero-zero-zero).
11. Type "monolith.idlegames.com" into the box, without quotes.
12. Press OK.
13. Double click on 001. If that's not there, create it by right clicking and going to New>String value and name it "001" (without the quotes, zero-zero-one) and then double click on it.
14. Enter "jazz.logicware.com".
15. Click OK
16. Click the X button to exit regedit.

Now try hosting. Monolith's list server has been down lately, and if it is, just go in and change 000 back to jazz.logicware.com (which it should be before you changed anything. If it isn't, there's your problem.)

This worked for me for a while for some reason, and I use Monolith's server because it seems a bit more fast for me. But, if hosting doesn't work on monolith.idlegames.com, setting jazz.logicware.com as the original server list again will likely speed up your connecting to the list servers.

This isn't likely to work, but it's worth a try.

As for Games in Progress, if you have the right list server, it does show up there even if it's pinging. If it isn't, then you either are completely unable to get to the list server or you have the wrong list server listed. Make sure it's jazz.logicware.com!

Trafton, the serverlist has _nothing_ to do with whether people can ping you or not.

The problem is either a firewall or a bad ISP. Make sure that your firewall is closed (not just off) and that you have no others running. Also confirm that you are not behind any kind of network. Check your IP address (Start->Run, "ipconfig" in 2000\XP, "winipcfg" in 9x\Me) and make sure it doesn't start with "192.168".

Also, what is your operating system? Windows 2000\XP\ have a built in firewall, and there could be a chance that it is on.

If you are absolutely positive that no firewall is blocking it, your ISP could be blocking it. Do other online games work? You might need to contact them and ask if they have any information. If they block games and there is nothing you can do about it, you might have to switch to a different ISP.

I am not sure what the problem is, but suddenly I got a firewall and I had jazz2 enabled on the firewall with the correct ports. Hardly anyone can join my server now unless I add them to the allowed ips, or sometimes I dont have the problem and a few people join. Latley I have got a connection timed out when joining servers after being there like 10 or 20 min, but most of the other ppl on the server have the same problem.
When I remove an ip from my banned list, it seems people can join again often.
