clone clan? uncoolness

Hello Shadow RR here, yea the real one... some of you oldies will prolly remember me! yea... I was the one always trying to play better and not spending to much time on the board ;) also I started the Rabbid Rabbits clan or RR. then I around 2000 sometime I sorta stoped playing and dissapeared for a while.

so like 3 days ago I decided to pop in to check stuff out, see whats going on in the old JJ2 world. I got kind of a shock when I saw that someone called darker posting under the name Shadow RR and sorta taking over the clan by claming the history of my clan(see his website) and changing the Rabid Rabbits name slightly to Rapid Rabbits...

Just sorta wondering whats going on with this... And Darker... it would be great if you just started your own clan... not taking someone elses.. even if it seems pretty dead... same with the name...

As for the RR part, I talked about this with Darker in a server. It is my opinion that what he did was wrong, but he seems very passionate about the new RR and leading it. He was geniunely worried. I'm not sure if I like the idea of the new RR, being that he never asked you. I think that you are completely in your rights to demand the clan back (he says he'll quit if RR ends), so it's really just a question of what you think is right in many ways. If he really doesn't want to end RR, he won't, but it seemed like he would end it at your request. Without insulting it, I would like to add that it's my opinion the new RR does not live up to the name of the RR (just an opinion). Unfortunately, the name it has failed to live up to is obviously stolen. He thought the clan was dead, but he still should of asked. It was morally the right thing to do. I think this is more between you and him, though, than the whole JCF and it's perspective members.

He didn't do this on purpose, and I also don't expect you to stay here for long, like most people returning. So what's the problem?

The problem is that he did purpously take the name. I see you didn't bother to read the other thread (which isn't really worth it, anyway.) ;-P

He took the name and the player's name because he thought the clan was dead and the player had left. It was not accidental. That's the problem.

I just went to shadow cause I thought it was cool name but I never thought anyone would blame me since it was a one week thing, then I got lazy on JCf to sign up as darker, then when I wanted to be darker on JCF again, the ban sign up thing was on!
Sheesh, I was only shadow for a week, then I got lazy and stuff, but here it is, im darker!

Also, since Rabid Rabbit died, I got the feeling to make a clan called Rapid Rabbit Clan after I sae Lightning RRs webpage. Really, running my RR clan is the only thing keeping me on playing JJ2.

OK, here's my opinion:

The whole thing is disconcerting. While the clan was dead for 6 months, I was away for 6 months too at one point. If I was to return seeing that my name and my clan was being used by another player, I would be a bit mad. After all, it's like someone stealing someone else's legacy. And, without calling RR a bad clan, I can't say that the New RR is on the same level of strict player acception that the old one was on. If I was Shadow RR (the real one, Ducky's brother) I'm not sure I would know what to do. I would probably want my name back, but not necessarily my clan. Of course, that's obviously just me. I think that this is still between Darker and Shadow (the old one). In fact, if I see one more person named Shadow, I think that I will slap my self many times with a sizable trout.

I am not wrong again, since I already said somewhere that unoriginal people call theirselves Shadow. I also feel that this thread would not even have been here if Ducky wouldn't have visited this forum, now this guy will be here for a week. He will make Shadow RR change his name and clan. And then he'll disapear again.

I don't think it's worth the change.

Technically, there was no way that adopting the clan name could have done much help. Whether or not it turned out well, the only thing that it could have lead to was this. I think you should be able to keep the clan name, but it's really Shadow RR (the old one)'s descision.

Actually, he cant do a thing about it. When he left the clan atomaticly died. So when I made Rapid Rabbit Clan, he wasnt there and no one can stop me. Right now Shadow just came back after a long time of not playing and now the symbol RR is mine, since when the old RR died, I came along and kinda made another one. So when RR died, its like in never even was.....

Again, this is between you two. However, I have to mention that you aren't correct about that. The name, when used, was copyright automatically (yes, this is a legal thing) and technically you had to ask the original clan maker's permission to use it. I dobut there will be any lawsuits involved. But, as Newspaz said, we aren't the ones to decide. You have to talk to eachother directly instead of making us act as the ones who argue for you.

I doubt names are copyrighted automaticly. Since I actually do think copyrighting things costs money, and it will have to go through a commission.

Otherwise my name (Stan) would be copyrighted as well. And I'd have to force all other Stans to get another name. And not allowing parents to call their kids Stan ;).

It's not that. I believe there is a law (in the United States) at least that protects things that people create. It requires them to have never been created before and not to be used commonly (like the name of a person.) The name of a clan would be included, but there is no chance this will become a lawsuit, so what I said was pretty much invalid. Shoot me. ;p

This is my opinion. From what I've heard, Darker and Shadow are worst enimies and I know this would be very hard to do. But I think that you guys should work put a co=leader kind of thing. I know Darker probably wont want to do this, I don't know shadow. But because Im in RR, I just hope everything works out! =D

Yea my opinion: There is nothing Illegal about using someone basic name, but its unethecal to pretend to be that player! like if neather Shadow GPW or I were in clans, I would have to change my name. Because he actully had the name Shadow before me, and I dont want to steal his name from him and it just saves alot of confusion... But because it is easy to tell the diffrence between us there are no proplems...
Same with clans. I would not start a clan named "Grey Putt Wabbits" because the abreviation would be GPW and I wouldn't want that for the same reasons as I wouldn't want my name the same as his...


So here is the deal I am suggesting:

Yea don't use the name Shadow RR

I am willing to let you run the clan as leader if you will talk to me about important decisions reguarding the running of the clan and member status...
so I will remain the owner and founder of the clan, but you will run it and be in effect, the leader...

do you think this aggrement is acceptable? I have no prob with you running the clan as long as the arrangements are all open and legitimate...

You actually could start a clan named GPW if it was dead. Like yours was until you came back here. I do think in now way this is acceptable.

You just came here because your sister said "HEY SOMEONES USING YA NAME BRO". Not because you actually thought "Hey Jazz's a nice game, let's play it again". I think you will be gone again in no time.

There is more to a name then just the letters... its what you want other people to think of you as... its trying to get across your personality to others, so they can know you better... well this was always the way I felt about it... maby JJ2 wasn't as serious to most of you as it was for me...

Darker! I want you to know that I dont think any less of you for this... I think you acted in the right way, and I dont want you to be mad at me for the way I responded to this...
